I rate this book five stars because I wrote it and I'm incredibly biased.

On a more serious note, I place some content warnings on this:

TW: depression, anger, mentions of suicide (past, off-page), minor suicide ideation, poverty, grief/grieving, minor body horror (sewn together flesh), minor racism, death of children, drug use/intoxication, psychopathy, minor violence

QUEER FAE BABIES SOLVING HELLA CREEPY MURDERS IN FANTASY TORONTO WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT??

Seriously though I was lucky enough to read an early version of this amazing book packed with adventure, major DnD vibes, a unique, modern take on fae/faeries, and a f/f romance that makes you wanna scream JUST KISS ALREADY the second they're on the page together! Arlo is my pure, sweet, just-trying-to-get-by-without-dying half-fae queen and an incredibly fun and relatable protagonist. And the PROSE you

This is far and away the best book I have ever read and Ashley Shuttleworth is a goddess. Put it on your list internet people!!
Nosthe ex-Fury who was too furious for the other Furiesis probably the best thing that will ever happen to any of you. The world building is exquisite, the writing is lush and flawless, and the characters fully realized, unique, and sympathetic. From all of this goodness emerges Nos. We dont deserve her, but Shuttleworth has been gracious enough to give her to us anyway.

I dont even know where to begin in praising this masterpiece because its absolutely fantastic. Crime solving faes and the biggest UST f/f chemistry youll ever get to read, this is a tale that everyone should add to their list because the story will pull you right in and wont let you go until the very end (and even then...). Ive read several versions of it and it keeps getting better despite the fact that Ive thought it was perfect from the start - how does she do it? Well. Ashley is a Goddess. ...more

Having been lucky enough to read early versions of this story I can say with full confidence that ADAHS is far and away one of my favourite novels of recent years. Come for the magical realism and world building, but stay for Shuttleworths fully realized and compelling characters who instantly grab at your heartstrings. Add in an intriguing plot that leaves you unable to put the book down and theres litterally something for everyone. Add it to your TBR list - you wont be disappointed. ...more
