What do you do when you keep losing time?

Terrifying visions torment Starra. Lost moments of time and flashes of images too horrific to accept fill her with icy fear so complete she can’t escape it. With too many unanswered questions, she needs answers. Now. It’s her only hope if she wants to save what’s left of her shattered mind and soul.

Unlike Starra, Mina cares nothing for her soul. Damned long ago, she’s too scarred for redemption. There are people meant to enjoy lives of love and family and friends. Mina isn’t one of these people. Her life is in the shadows, unafraid of the dark... until she realizes that something lurks in those shadows, something that wants to tear her apart.

I was born and raised in a tiny town in the wilds of northern New York, a pretty, little college town called Potsdam. I grew up in a family of lawyers and teachers and bucked all the traditions. Before becoming a writer, I spent a lot of years wearing combat boots in the US Army. I spent most of my time in boots working as a Signals Intelligence Analyst (no jokes!) and a linguist. I also worked as a tech writer, an entirely different kind of writing, for Corning Glass Works. Now, I’m an Army wife and a mom to four sons.  Over the years, our Army life has taken us all over the place and I have been lucky enough to work and live in some pretty amazing places.  Now we live in Hawaii, just minutes from the beach!

I am a writer thoroughly in love with words. Reading them, writing them… I love that words can take you outside of your world and let the unimaginable become imaginable. When I’m not writing or lounging on the beach, I’m probably somewhere with my nose in a book.

I was hooked by the blurb and the cover (yes I'm a blurb and cover whore... better add teasers into that list as well).
This was the first time I'd read a Kim Deister book.
I love dark, suspenseful reads. The more twists and turns and aggravation with not knowing yet needing to know.. that's me in a nutshell. My very favorite stories... and I am on an ever exploring journey for the next read that fits.
Last Night was one of those books that I was sure was so sure was going to be added to that list, however the beginning, I just couldn't get into it. There was a lot of repetition. Especially in the first couple of chapters. There was Starra and her POV, blacking out, not knowing...and there was Mina, an assasin, going after those who've wronged the wrong people. I could tell within those first couple of chapters what was most likely happening, which isn't a big deal. The fact you kinda know what's going on doesn't impede the story. But it does get old with Starra being so repetitive. I kind of started to dislike her. Mina was kick ass. Loved that character.
There were some twists that were very well played, seemingly coming out of nowhere.
Last Night was enjoyable overall. It was well written, engaging, entertaining. I really wanted to love it, but I did like it.

Last night was a very suspenseful dark story that I couldn't get enough of. First of all, the talented Kim Deister gave me a story that allowed my f-bombs to rain down since it was full of twists & turns. Like I'm talking about the twists getting all turned out, while the turns are completely twisted up. I'm woman enough to admit that I didn't see a LOT of it coming, which is always so amazing for me, as I really love to be shocked. It's the story of Starra (good) and Mina (maybe not so good), who are 100% opposite but both trying to find their way in the world in different ways. They've both been betrayed so you guessed it, here come the twists out of the darkness. They both want some serious revenge because of all that is going on. The secrets & lies were so devastating, that neither were sure they could survive them, especially since we all know that secrets don't ever make friends. And I've definitely said enough since I'm not about to give away anything pertinent. So how do Starra & Mina fare after it's all said & done? One click this intense & edge of your seat goodness to find out! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Last Night tells the story of two women who have a few deep dark secrets hidden inside of them and in their past. One cares nothing for herself or her soul. The other is experiencing memory loss and wants to save herself.

When the blackness descends upon her there is nothing she can to do but give into it. When she awakens she has no knowledge of where she is, where she has been or what she has done. She does have flash of memories and knows that whatever is going on it is not good.

She knows that she must find out what is happening to her and what is going on if she is to save herself from the darkness within her or lose herself forever to the darkness. The memories, the darkness plus the bits and pieces of her memories that she is able to savage will tear her apart if she doesn’t find the answers to her questions soon.

Last Night is a very intense and intriguing read that is filled with so much suspense that it kept me glued to the pages. It has so many secrets buried between its pages keeping those pages turning trying to figure it all out.

Each secret is revealed at the just the right time and place with the right amount to keep you hanging in there and wanting more. It had me guessing from the beginning as to what was happening to Starra but I don’t think I ever came close it was sort of a surprise when all of her secrets finally came tumbling out but it was good it kept me hooked right up until the end.

When you start reading Last Night you think this is one of those books that is predictable but that is far from the truth as it is not as easy as you might think to figure out and predict what is going to happen next. Last Night was one amazing story that I think everyone should give a try. So one click yourself a copy today!

What a fun twisted read. If you enjoy dark romantic suspense then this is the next book you need to binge read.

Starra and Mina, two women, polar opposites but yet one in the same. They are both yearning to find thier place in the world. Both are beholden to the same befactor but in different ways. Both betrayed and set out on revence began the spiral of lies and a betrayal so deep they aren't sure they can survive it and move forward with thier lives. Together they are stronger than they were seperately and they are intent to exact vengence.

"I never knew how vast the darkness could be. Nothing else existed in the darkness but my own mind."

Dark... the absence of light in a place.

This is a very twisted, dark read, as is both Starra and Mina's souls, just in different ways. The only hope either of them has lies within one another. But can they trust that bond when everything around them is uncertain and flawed?

I loved the alternating POV and how it showed just how different each of these characters were, opposites sides of the same coin, but it's only together that they can discover the truth. Fantastic world building, steadily paced story and perfectly flawed three dimensional characters.

Last Night was a bit hard to follow. The overall story idea is great though and if you stick with it you will realize you made the correct decision.

In this story, we find Starra having lost moments of time and flashes of images too horrific to accept. These visions fill her with icy fear so complete she can’t escape it. With too many unanswered questions, she needs answers.

Then there is Mina who does not care at all about her soul. However, soon she realizes there is something lurking in the shadows.

Terrifyingly this story is one that will keep me up at night.

I am of two minds on this book. The format made it hard for me to get into the book. That being said, I did want to continue reading, I just wished I could be more engaged with the character. I don't know if what was revealed halfway through was supposed to be a twist or a shock but it was not. Much of the plot was pretty predictable. I actually started enjoying the book more after that halfway. If you have trouble like I did getting started, give it until at least 45-50%. Then you get to what I thought was the interesting part.

Dark and dark!!

This is a new author for me. The blurb caught my attention since I just adore a good psychological thriller. And this is just that, a good psychological thriller. It takes talent to do mental illness from a first-person perspective. Guts, and know-how. We are told a rather dark and twisted tale of a woman that keeps waking up missing chunks of time and covered in blood with no memory of what has been going on. The story bounces back and forth between the two main characters. It's dark, like--light a flashlight dark-- and it's so well done that you keep turning pages. You will think that you have it figured out but in the end, you won't. It goes places you aren't expecting. It's an odd mix of semi-predictable and shocking all at once.
The characters are troubled, which adds to the mood of this book. They have severe issues, no happy go lucky pretty people with no troubles here. I mentioned in my last post that authors do their best work when they aren't afraid to offend and make characters to real you might run into them on the street. This author does just that. If you are a fan of the darkness, then add this one to your to be read list.

Last Night is a wonderfully written, dark story told in dual points of view. As we bounce back and forth between Starra and Mina, the tale gets more and more twisty. It's intense and suspenseful, and I don't care to admit that I thought I had it all figured out more than once only to be proven wrong each and every time. The secrets just keep coming and Kim Deister's timing was impeccable on when each was revealed. Moreover, the author dangled those secrets, giving just enough to build the level of suspense and keep the pages turning. The only drawback for me was that the beginning felt a little stilted, and it took me a while to get into the story. However, once I did, I was hooked. I realize that I've been vague here, and that was intentional as this is one story that needs to be read spoiler-free, and I don't want to give anything away. Last Night is certainly not an easy read with its dark and twisted story, but it is a good one.
