Here comes Peter Easter Frog, hopping down his favorite log. Hippity, hoppity, Easter’s on its—wait. Easter FROG?
Peter Easter Frog loves, loves, LOVES Easter, and sharing is caring, AND he’s just as good a hopper as any ol’ rabbit, so he decides to pass out some of his own Easter eggs. Hello, friends! Our book today is Peter Easter Frog, written by Erin Dealey and illustrated by G. Brian Karas, a delightfully odd twist on the traditional Easter mascot.
Beginning with a variation of the classic “Peter Cottontail” rhyme, readers are introduced to Peter Easter Frog, a dapper little amphibian on a mission of spreading Easter cheer. As he introduces himself and distributes eggs to various animal friends – a turtle, a cow, a sheepdog, and a chipmunk – they too are swept up in Peter’s zest for spring celebration, and decide to help. That is, until, they come face to face with the real Easter Bunny, who has some thoughts on imitators…
A sweet and hilarious holiday tale. Adorable Peter Easter Frog’s enthusiasm for Easter fun is as contagious for the reader as it seems to be for his pals, and Dealey’s clever dialogue and creative revisions of “Peter Cottontail” make for a fun read-aloud experience. The shift between dialogue and refrain can occasionally be difficult to spot on first reading, and knowing the melody of the original song is also very helpful, but neither are critical issues. Karas’s scribbly mixed-media illustrations are colorful and endearing, and include a few surprise visual choices that are simply inspired comedically (especially during the meeting with the Easter Bunny). The resolution is both pleasingly logical and heartwarming, the length is perfect for a storytime, and JJ and I both had a blast. If you’re looking for an entertaining and unique nondenominational Easter book, this may be the one for you. We recommend it, and it’s Baby Bookworm approved!

The idea of a frog playing Easter Bunny makes a hippity-hoppity, wonderful adventure.
Peter has decided that the Easter Bunny isn't the only one who should have fun delivering eggs. So, off he goes with his own basket. One by one, he meets various animals, and each one is more than a bit curious about his Easter egg-citement. But his enthusiasm is catchy, and soon he might not be the only one playing Easter Bunny. But what happens when the real bunny shows up?
Light-hearted fun is what drives this one forward. Peter is a very enthusiastic frog, and it's impossible not to wish him well on his new venture while secretly wanting to jump into those pages and join him. And he's right...why should the Easter Bunny have all the fun? Fun definitely flies high as he not only crosses the path of several animals (great for animal fans), but humor pricks and pokes in the most delightful ways as he continues his journey and mission.
The author incorporates huge hints at the song, Here Comes Peter Cottontail. While listeners don't necessarily need to be familiar with it before reading this, it definitely makes it more fun if they...or the reader...does. But it's still fun for those who don't. The text is kept short, making it great for even younger listeners, and the humor bounces along with the promise of more than just a couple of smiles. It's simply a fun, cute read. And it does pack a great message at the end without becoming preachy in any way.
The illustrations dance along right with the text. These are kept more bordered in and hold detail without overtaking the entire page. They hit exactly where needed and perfectly swing in, letting the tale unfold. They are definitely also great for young listeners to grab up on their own and experience the tale through flipping the pages.
It makes a great read-aloud and is sure to add tons of humor as well as bring Easter joy. I received a complimentary copy and giggled quite a bit.
My kids and I loved Peter Easter Frog!! Such a cute story of friendship and fun as Peter embarks on a journey to become the Easter Frog and turns his doubters into helpers along the way. When he finally meets "The Bunny," Peter is literally overshadowed by his towering presence. Peter’s convinced that his time as the Easter Frog is through . . . but an act of kindness on his part changes The Bunny’s mind. The ending perfectly captures the heart of the Easter spirit! Dealey’s text will have you singing aloud to a familiar song reimagined, and Karas’s beautiful pastel illustrations perfectly capture the characters and the Easter/spring season.
This is such a clever little story that will have you hopping along in rhyme along with the story's unlikely hero - Peter Easter Frog. Encountering skeptics and nay-sayers along the way, Peter will not be swayed. Instead, he follows his heart-hop by hop-delivering easter eggs... until he comes face to face with the real deal. BUNNY. Is this the tragic end to a courageous dream? Or will Peter find a way to endear himself to the big guy in the same way that he slips into the reader's heart? (Spoiler - it's the latter). A fun Easter (and non-Easter) day read!
Erin Dealey gives us another book with perfect rhyme and hilarious characters. Beginnig with the cover and the looming shadow of The Bunny, PETER EASTER FROG is magic. You just HAVE to sing parts of this book to the tune of "Here Comes Peter Cottontail." It's simultaneously laugh-out-loud funny and poignant, and Peter Easter Frog is super easy to love. He's hoppy, happy, and most of all, generous. Kids will love him and his cadre of unlikely Easter assistants. This story begs to be read no matter what the calendar says.
I love books that trick you into thinking they are just a cute, fun story, but also manage to share some deeper elements all while entertaining you. PETER EASTER FROG does just that. This is such a fun and clever book that made me chuckle in delight. Feel free to read it to the tune of “Here Comes Peter Cottontail” because how can you resist? Kids will love this book for the imaginative concept, adorable illustrations, rhythmic text, and humor sprinkled throughout. Plus the author does a great job of working in a nice twist at the end to wrap everything up in a satisfying conclusion.
This clever story will delight children of all ages. Peter, a self-proclaimed Easter Frog, takes the reader on a rollicking, rhyming journey convincing his friends – Turtle, Easter Cow, Sheepdog, and Chipmunk that they all are just as capable at spreading Easter cheer as the Easter Bunny. Dealey’s ingenious and giggle-worthy text is chockful of word play on every page. Karas’s lively and vibrant illustrations are spot-on and add to the delightful storyline. A perfect read aloud for any time of the year!
A clever story about the not-so-traditional, yet very confident Easter frog and the friends he meets along the way to help him deliver Easter joy! You will find yourself singing (along to the tune of Here Comes Peter Cottontail), making this the perfect read aloud for the Easter crowd.
When you think about it, an Easter bunny is kind of a ridiculous idea anyway, so why not an Easter frog, or cow or squirrel!
Peter Easter Frog is a delight! This is such a fun story that is sure to be loved by children and adults alike. The cast of unexpected characters (a frog, turtle, cow, sheepdog, and chipmunk) is adorable, and Peter Easter Frog’s optimism and cheerful disposition make him instantly adored starting on page one. This is a beautiful book and will be a holiday favorite for years to come. A perfect gift for any Easter basket!
Peter's the Easter Frog, because, well, why should the Easter Bunny have all the fun? He hops along, distributing eggs and good cheer wherever he goes. Pretty soon, Chipmunk, Turtle, Cow, and Dog have joined him, and everything's going hippity-hoppity until they suddenly come face to face with the REAL Easter Bunny...who is not at all amused to find them doing HIS job. This hilarious twist on a holiday theme (complete with "musical" interludes that can be sung to the tune of "Here Comes Peter Cottontail") is a basketful of fun.
This is a fun and silly sing-a-long story, "Here comes Peter Easter Frog, hopping down his favorite log, hippity hoppity, Easter's on its - hey! You're not the bunny." And so it goes, with Peter Easter Frog trying to recruit all his friends into hiding Easter eggs for some Easter fun. I love the readability of this book and it's sure to be a hit with preschools that have Easter-theme story times.
Peter Easter Frog wants to deliver eggs. He needs a little help from his other animal friends who are happy to help. But what happens when they meet THE Easter Bunny? Children will love this hilarious tale where the rhymes and onomatopoeia are interrupted by dialogue from the animals Peter meet. This book can be a springboard for children to imagining their own Easter animals or helpers for other holidays!
4/8 - This is a very funny book and a great read aloud. It combines the traditional song about Peter (Here comes …) Cottontail and mixes it with a frog who wants to get in on the Easter fun. The local animals are not convinced, and then of course the frog meets up with the real Easter Bunny and the fun really starts. This is the kind of book that will be terrific around Easter or just about any time of year. Both kids and adults will both get a yippity - yappity, hippity-hoppity kick out of it.
Such sass! This book is full of character, tude, and cuteness. A wonderful storytime for the little ones at the library, they loved finishing the trailed off sentence, "Hippity-hoppity, easter's on its..." they'd yell "WAYYYY". I enjoy books that prompt dialogue like that, it keeps the kids engaged, especially when the script is thrown out the window when a certain easter BUNNY comes hopping in.
I loved Peter Easter Frog, by Erin Dealey! A rhyming romp around the countryside with 'Peter the frog - and boy can he hop' delivering Easter eggs and picking up a bunch of friends who want to join in along the way...until of course he meets the real Easter bunny...what happens next? Well, you had better read the book! Illustrations by G Brian Karas compliment the story perfectly.
Could this be any cuter?? First of all, who even thinks of an Easter FROG? And the other characters he meets along the way are so un-Easter-y too, but work so well together. The story is so funny and creative. Charming rhyme and unexpected turns make this a great read. Honestly, adorable. Kids will get such a kick (or hop?) out of it when the Easter Bunny shows up. Very clever. Recommend!
Forget the Easter Bunny, introducing the Easter...Frog! Erin Dealey delivers another fun book begging to be read aloud. Follow Peter and his host of (un)Easter buddies (not bunnies) as they work to spread Easter fun and joy. The illustrations are quite charming and the language is snippity-snappity-fun to read.
My 2.5yo was very into the illustrations here. The frog wants to help the easter bunny and starts trying to hide eggs. other animals tell him he is not the easter bunny but he asks why he cant help and they end up helping him. They run into the easter bunny who is also confused and tries to say it is his job. Then he realizes he enjoys the help and its a cute happy ending.
“Here comes Peter Easter Frog, hopping down his favorite log. Hippity, hoppity, Easter’s on its ...”
Why is a frog posing at the Easter Bunny? He can hop and he LOVES Easter. Why should the Easter Bunny have all the fun? Suddenly, Peter has friends helping him too: Turtle, Cow, Sheep Dog, even a squirrel. But what happens when the Bunny shows up?
Kids will love this fun new story where Peter Easter Frog is eager to get in on all of the Easter Bunny basket action. Fun, clever, charming, and a romp to read with a surprise ending that even the Easter Bunny didn't expect.
I really enjoyed this story. It's funny, adorable, and sweet. The characters are my favorite part: so quirky and delightful, such as the turtle with lipstick and nailpolish. Guaranteed to make readers laugh - grownups and children alike.
Peter Easter Frog written wonderfully by Erin Dealey and illustrated charmingly by G. Brain Karas is such a fun read aloud. Kids and adults would want to hop and skip with Peter Easter Frog with every read. A story about friendship and being kind to one another. A great message for any holiday!
I don't give many five star reviews...but, this one is a hoot. It is fun to read. It has great illustrations from Karas (of course) and Dealey's text is snappy and the story structure is innovative. It is just a j oy to read. It is going right into my Easter storytime rotation.
This book made me laugh! Fun Easter story about a frog who wants to deliver easter eggs and gets help along the way from other farm animals....until he meets the easter bunny! But giving the easter bunny his first egg solves the problem!
Here comes Peter Easter Frog, hopping down his favorite log. . . Peter Frog is delivering Easter eggs, and gathers helpers as he goes--until (oh oh, can't spoil the ending!) Great read-aloud, especially if you can sing and create fun animal voices.
