Heather Graham is a fantastic author. I've read a lot of her books and been very satisfied with the writing, the story telling, the characters. This one, however, was below her usual standards.

Maura and Brock were high school sweethearts years ago, A woman had been murdered, Brock was arrested and then released, and Maura left town, too scared to stand up for him.

Today ... two women are missing. Brock is now an FBI Agent and he and Maura are now in the same place at the same time. Both are them

Tangled Threat by Heather Graham

Harlequin Intrigue series book.
Fast paced, stories of ghosts in Florida, mystery.
Lovers reunited. Maura and Brock. Turns out he did try to contact her but her parents interfered. Twelve years later they finds themselves together with the same feelings.
Tame on the sizzle scale. Sex scenes are about three sentences long with no real heat.
The mystery of women disappearing has depth with plenty of suspects.
A bit rushed at the end where explanations occur in the epil

Tangled Threat was a quick read with a second chance at love romance and an intriguing mystery.

Maura Antrim and Brock McGovern were blissfully in the throes of new love when the couple was torn apart by a murder at the infamous History Tree located at the resort where the pair worked. After Brock was arrested in connection with the murder, Maura’s parents whisked her away before they had a chance to talk after Brock was released as innocent the next day. Now an FBI agent, Brock returns to Florid

Thanks to author for providing this copy through Netgalley.
It was new author for me and I will look forward for more books from her.
This book needed to be read in a proper mood or if you are very interested in history of USA, you like some ancient storytelling, some mystic and suspense. There was a bit of second chance romance as well. Sex scenes were written elegantly, there is no any descriptive sex.
Although main characters were separated by parents of heroine, both weren't celibate. Although

I had to take a few before I sat down and wrote this review. First I want to say that Heather Graham is one of my all time favorite authors. I have read pretty much everything that she has written both with her true name and the others she sometimes goes by. Her 'Alliance Vampire' series is one of the best paranormal reads out there and then of course her Krewe of Hunters. I have even read some of her historical books.
'Tangle Threat' was a bit difficult for me. The story itself was good and i

FBI agent Brock McGovern is going back to a place that holds bad memories. He had been arrested for murder and his young love had been swept away.

Three women are missing and it is his job to find out why. Is there a curse waiting to deal him a dose of justice….or a murderer waiting to be caught?

The History Tree…I love trees. I don’t know why, but anything about them makes me curious and a tree with a cursed history…well, I gotta know.

This is a convoluted mystery that spans decades. All the playe

Tangled Threat is a book with a really cool premise and an execution that didn’t quite get there. I love the idea two people with history as teenagers brought back together by a crime with eerily similar circumstances as the one that initially tore them apart, especially when one of them is now an FBI agent. I will say that it was a very quick read, so that was enjoyable. My problem is that the leads in this book have little to no chemistry! Their first real conversation takes place almost halfw ...more

I used to read all of the books by this author, so I was really happy to receive an ARC from net galley. I found a few hours of free time, settled back to read...And was totally disappointed.

I don't know if I've grown out of this type of book, or The author has changed, but I was bored. Yes, bored. Romance, mystery, ghosts...what's not to love? The answer...the writing. There seemed to be a lot of rambling. And i did not feel like I was immersed in the story. I was not drawn in. And the romance

Its no secret that I am a big fan of Heather Graham, so when I was approved for this book on NetGalley, I was beyond thrilled. I know what to expect with a book by this author and I am here to tell you that I wasn’t disappointed.

The story begins years before, when Maura and Brock are teenagers and working as guides at a vacation resort in Florida. That night both of their lives change forever when the body of a woman, a co-worker not liked by many, was found hanging dead from the History

Maura and Brock had a thing in the past that was until a body was found handing and Brock was blamed for the death. Its been years and now Brock is an FBI agent, and Maura is around to help him solve the case on the missing women that seems to have ties to the past.

If you like a good mystery novel with some romance you'll like this book. I loved following along with the characters getting to know them and seeing as they piece together the mystery that is happening. This isn't a book that can eas

While the story was a good one, with a fabulous cast of well developed characters and a very engaging plot, the identity of the killer (at least ONE of them) was so insanely obvious and it frustrated me to no end that it wasn’t clear to the ones investigating the disappearances. Overall this was a great book, I just wish there were a few more plot twists to it that made it less predictable.

I really wanted to enjoy this book, the blurb grabbed my attention but the authors writing style really let it down. It was hard to follow who was saying what, and it tended to ramble on. I found it quite boring at times and struggled to finish it

I will admit that for me reading Heather Graham is always a comfort read. I get into her right away and she can keep me with the story. I love that in the books I read. I will tell you that I haven't read one of her Harlequin Intrigue's in forever. Heck, I haven't read any of those in a long time.

More often than not I just love her books but this one was 50/50 for me. This is a good, well-written story that didn't

This book started out with an interesting concept. I liked the Florida lore, and how there was a parallel between what happened in the past and what was happening in the present. I also like how the author brought the characters back to the “scene of the crime,” albeit in different positions, 12 years after the fact. There were definite bones of a good story here (no pun intended). Unfortunately, the plot wandered about 2/3 of the way through, with the introduction of a strange piece of lore, a ...more

This was a fun second chance romance. It was a quick read, but the story wasn’t rushed. The mystery aspect was very good and the twist was perfect!

Terrific book that sucked me in right from the start. It began with a prologue when Maura and Brock were eighteen-year-olds working at a local resort. They were in love and had plans for the future. But the horrific sight of a body hanging from the notorious History Tree, and Brock's subsequent arrest as a person of interest, derailed their plans. Even though he was released almost immediately, Maura's parents had taken her away. Now Maura is back at the resort filming videos and fighting the me ...more

This book is a lot shorter than some of Heather Graham’s other works, but it is just as good. It is published under the Harlequin Intrigue line of books.

Maura Antrim and Brock McGovern work at a historical place where a lot of death has occurred around an ancient tree that intertwined with a palm tree. They call it the History Tree, although it is whispered it is the Terror Tree. People have been found dead around it or went missing after visiting it. During a tour where Maura and Brock lead a b

3.5 stars - I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

This is a slightly spooky murder mystery and second chance romance. Ten years ago, Maura and Brock were witnesses to a grisly murder at a Florida resort. Now they’re back at the resort and Brock has to solve a new murder and a string of disappearing women that may be linked.

As a murder mystery, this resembles a classic Agatha Christie or Sherlock Holmes story more than it does most modern crime thrillers. The suspe

This is a well crafted second chance romantic suspense, an edge of your seat read involving murder, history, love and mystery. As teenagers, Maura and Brock were working at the Framptom Ranch and Resort before murder separated them. They were in love but their discovery of one of their fellow members of staff murdered and hanging from the infamous History Tree put an end to their relationship. She was whisked away by her parents whilst he was arrested for the murder. He was quickly released but ...more

The premise of the book is promising, the execution, not so much.

Except for some tedious re-telling of the same Gyselle story, the first part of the book kept me entertained. Unfortunately between the poor format, the lackluster romance, and really the non-urgency of anyone to solve the crimes, the second half of the book was just a let down.

Hopefully the formatting issue was just the ARC I received and will be fixed when the book is released, but it made for some difficulty in understanding wha

I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

This all started with a murder when Maura and Brock were much younger. Almost headed off to college, they are working at the same resort when a member of the staff is murdered. Jump ahead several years and everyone is back, but for different reasons.

Maura and Brock were the "it" couple. But, when tragedy strikes, Maura is whisked away and Brock is arr

So Maura is back at Frampton Ranch and Resort,  a place she once worked at as a storyteller, it holds a history for her, a painful one ......

"The History Tree" has always been part of the Ranch ,it was part of the plantation  before it became Frampton , anyhow , a young girl ,whose only crime was love was hung from that tree ,it was believed to have been cursed after that......

Now the stories told around these camp fires are more than stories, they're history so when it seems history is repeatin

This was an interesting story. I liked the idea of a Resort/Ranch in Florida steeped in all this history. It takes place in and around the surrounding area of St. Augustine. The characters are well developed and the story flows. Maura and Brock met at the ranch while they were working there for the summer when they were approx. 18-19. They left after a horrific incident took place; that changed the course of their lives. They return 12 years later; amidst stories of young women going missing. Ca ...more

I really enjoy some of this author's other series so I thought I'd give this one a try. I liked it well enough although not as much as some of her others. It was entertaining but was a little slow in places. I thought the overall story was entertaining but the pace didn't work for me. Not a bad book by any means but not where I'd start if you've never read this author before.

This story could have been great! If only the author could have stayed on track. It was so long and drawn out, not to mention all over the place. We really didn't need all the fillers with the history of buildings in a different town. I was bored. I needed to finish it to see who done it. But by the time we got there it was wham, bam and done.
