what an epic volume, its senku and tsukasa vs hyoga and the way they defeat him is crazy and the freezing of Senku. There are so many great science experiments to see here which is inspiring actually. They have to go to the other side of the world and so they revive ryuusui, a ship captain and from there we have money and they have to look for oil, and for that they needto first build hot air balloons to make maps and also they are working on a ship. Its crazy to see how logical and sequential Senku thought it out and then you have the crazy craftsman ship of Yuzuriha. Its a fun volume and has great moments! And its funny seeing people still greedy of money even in post apocalypse! The art is insanely good, just one of the best mangas atm!

Uh oh. The series is starting to show its cracks.(Pun intended). I still love what I read, but I’m not fully sold on the new direction. They’re also too many new characters. I love the characters, too, but too much too fast ain’t my speed.

Now, this is the indulgence of the Tsukasa and Senku alliance that we are deprived of in the early volumes!!! It's just so worth it... down to the freezing Tsukasa to conserve and be able to revive his critical body. Which kind of reminded me a lot about Han Solo's carbon-freezing. Boy, that's was a trauma to my little kid soul back in the day!!

Everything about this volume is just exciting! And now, finally, we're going to sail to unveil the truth about petrification, which I've been itching to know since day one. By the way, Ryusui Nanami is such a hilarious and interesting character! He gave a good laugh number of times. And that brawl between Magma and Yo is just so funny. This volume started with me bawling my eyes out, down to me wetting my pants by laughing out loud. Good times!!

The thing i loved most about this series is the enthusiasm of characters. They certainly do everything with gusto and face challenges head-on! The Ishigami villagers couldn't have asked for a better leader than Senku. Magma and Yo's banter is too cute to miss out!

Really liked this volume. Goddamn Tsukasa still fighting right after being stabbed through the chest, and the man is canonically stronger than most of the cast even with the injury. That whole bit with Senku talking with Tsukasa before freezing him was really sweet. Just overall I really like what’s been done with his character, I mean he isn’t exactly evil just very cynical about the human race (I mean I could argue he at least feels some level of guilt for the people he’s killed given how he remembers where all their bodies are and he visited Senku’s grave pretty often). Anyways really loved that page when Senku’s trying to get Yuzuriha to perform surgery on Tsukasa, made me lol. Yo’s an opportunistic idiot loser, I love him. Really like how he’s just in the crafts squad now. Also Ryusui’s such a wacky little lunatic, I love him. Just wakes up and he’s immediately on his sigma grindset and sailing obsession, just what a guy.

4/5 After Hyoga’s brutal attack on Tsukasa the story shifts to finding a way to help him. And that means finding out how humanity was turned to stone and to do that the cast needs to travel to the opposite side of the Earth. To that end we’re introduced to our newly unstoned captain, Ryuseii.

The Stone Wars are over and the story is still fun but I feel like scientifically jumping to air travel and commerce before agriculture it just weird. Still I’m having fun and that’s what matters. I’m also thrilled to have Taiju and Yuzuriha back.

Senku, Ryuseii, Kohaku, and Chrome on the cover of Volume 10.

The Stone Wars are over; the true big bad is subdued, and we invent refrigeration to keep the old big bad barely alive from his fatal wound because for some reason, the main character still regards him as a friend.
Hilariously, the way they plan to heal him is to subject him to the Medusa-power that petrified the world in the first place, which according to the ancient stories, came from South America.
TIME FOR EXPLORATION!
But it's one thing to make a superior sailing vessel; it's another to navigate it safely across the Pacific.
Looks like that's one thing our scientific Macgyver can't do...INSTEAD, THEY SEEM TO REVIVE SOMEONE FROM A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SERIES! Seriously, I have a feeling this was suppose to be the main character for the next thing the author wanted to do, but when Dr. Stone just continued to be popular, maybe they decided to just fold him into the current cast. Despite being the very definition of spoiled rich kid, he knows his stuff and unfortunately, the Kingdom of Science needs his skills.
Also, they invent hot air balloon to get a bird's eye view of how Japan's changed in the thousands of years since the petrification (MT FUJI STILL ACTIVE & ERUPTS BRO!).

4/5 Stars (%74/100)

In the previous volume, after Tsukasa admits defeat and decides to join the Kingdom of Science, Hyoga betrayed him so the first few chapters are about Hyoga and our heroes. Later, many people are depetrified and one of them is a great sailor named Ryusui. Senku also has crazy ideas like ships, air balloons and more. I kind of like where the story is going but there are too many characters and I can't follow them. The pacing is a bit faster than usual.

I have to be real here: I don't care that the conflict between Hyoga and Senku was taken care of relatively fast. I don't care how quickly the actual war between Tsukasa's and Senku's armies ended. I don't care about any of that shit because I am having a FUCKING BLAST with this series!

Although, I will say, Senku's temporary parting with Tsukasa was so heartbreaking, but I'm so happy that the new task is to re-petrify him so that they can revive him again. I'm proud of Senku, and really everyone involved, for willing to accept Tsukasa's apology and accept him as one of their own. I'm sad he's been pushed to the back burner for the forseeable future, but I understand why.

I'm not going to dwell on Ryusui's introduction because, frankly, I don't care about him and think he's an asshole. What I will dwell on is how hilarious Gen and Senku's friendship is because both are manipulative, scheming little shits who enable each other. Watching them dupe Ryusui into joining the hot air balloon expedition was fucking gold and fucking hilarious. And on the subject of characters, I'm definitely warming up to Yuzuriha, mostly because she's really useful and she's also becoming more assertive. Taiju is still Taiju, but he's not nearly as obnoxious now as he was in the first volume.

I'm so pumped for the exploration portion of this series and can't wait to see where the crew goes! I can't wait for volume 11!

After a forgettable and brief conclusion to a lackluster battle, one which resolves the main series conflict to this point, senku & co. set their sights on building a boat and sailing to South America, a step which will bring them closer to solving the mystery of petrification.

Sounds ok but the problem is that there is almost no conflict or danger to speak of. Senku is a super genius so has no difficulty contriving the necessary scientific solutions. Complications are things like old maps that are inaccurate because of Mount fuji eruptions. Well, no problem. Senku will just build a hot air balloon so he can make an accurate survey from the air. The whole book is stuff like this and it gets tedious. And I can’t say you’re really learning anything either, since the science is glossed over almost entirely.

Boichi does what he can to liven things up with animated character reactions; without his top notch art I think this book would have been an absolute bore.

In the way science constrains everything, the inherent troupes of Shonen manga restrain the plot of Stone Wars: Two opposing forces (Senku and Tsukasa) clash over a problem’s solution (humanity’s revival). They go to war (sort of), and either one side concedes and dies, or they reach a truce through some sort of device (a stalemate that hides Tsukasa’s defeat).

We, the readers, are too familiar with this formula, so does Itagaki surpass our expectations?

By the events, maybe, by the plot, not at all.

Tsukasa died, but we know he will be revived. Hyoga was the final boss; it makes sense, he’s been portrayed as a cold-blooded killer. Senku’s settlement started moving to the exploration era; of course, the origin of the petri-beam lies in South America.

We know where the series is going, but we should know that’s not what this series is about.

The core of Dr. Stone is not the plot but its execution. Itagaki is a genius at inspiring people through fantastic characters and interesting developments. In that regard, every volume is a Christmas pouch of cool science info, and this one is no exception: the panel of dynamite as a synonym for strength, the explanation of money, the ballon’s take-off, etc. All those moments put a smile on my face. I hope it continues on that track.

Lý do cũng đơn giản: cứu Tsukasa.

We must travel the world! How will we do that? Let's reinvent capitalism, the purest expression of scientific wisdom! Yes, we must have money, and negotiate money, and use that money to do things. That will be our focus! We will introduce a character whose only motivation is money, and since this world exists without money we will force money to exist! Yes, that is a good idea. That's what civilization needs! Arms races, colonizing other continents for oil, and exploiting people through capitalism. That will make a bold new humanity!

I knew this is where we were destined. The stone is withering away. Erosion has taken hold of Dr. Stone. I’ll do one more volume before I decide to tap out for a while. I knew we were in for it seeing Tsukasa's fate.

Kinda funny how we're always introduced to new frontiers by certain people, but Senku remains the only driving force behind science (beside Chrome who was widely absent this volume). That's probably the killer. Introducing too many characters who quietly grow irrelevant.

This story is off to a new arc at a rapid pace! The story picks up at the tragic end of the battle and quickly progresses to new scientific inventions and adventures in the stone world! Many of our favorite side characters get there moment in the spotlight. We also get to learn more about some of Tsukasa's people and their talents. I'm excited to see what adventures we will see in the next volume!

"He who controls oil holds the world in his hands! Not even thousands of years could change that," (Inagaki 124). This quote introduces Ryusui Nanami who in return for navigating across the ocean, will have control over any oil found nearby. Looking to get rich, Ryusui understands that oil is one of the easiest ways to make a ton of money, so by claiming oil he can be wealthy as the stone world evolves.
