The Soccer Player and the Single Mom is a stand alone sweet romance by Kyra Jacobs. I have read Kyra’s Paranormal series and even though she has several published contemporary romances, I haven’t read any of them yet. I don’t know why because I love her writing style. She has such a way of drawing in the reader and making us fall in love with her characters. Which is exactly what I did with this book!

Scott Gillie is a twenty eight year old professional soccer player. Scott’s life revolves around soccer. That’s the way it’s always been and that’s the way he wants it. But his life is suddenly put on pause when he is forced to take time off while an injured knee heals. Scott finds himself rehabbing at his childhood home, his grandmother’s house, in Quail Hollow, Indiana. All he wants is to get back to work doing what he loves. But that can’t happen until the doctor releases him. In the mean time, his manager decides he needs a personal assistant. That is the last thing Scott wants. Someone getting on his nerves every single day, especially the beautiful single mom his manager chooses for the job.

Felicity Shaw is a single mom to her six year old son, Tyler, who is adorable by the way. Felicity is doing everything she can to keep their heads above water. But lately, fate seems to be against her and is dealing her one blow after another. When Scott’s manager offers her the job as Scott’s personal assistant, she doesn’t want to take the job. She has no idea how to be a personal assistant. Plus, Scott is just a little bit too good looking for her own good! But she needs the money. Then fate deals her another blow and she finds herself moving in to Scott’s grandmother’s house, with her bedroom door right across the hall from Mr. Sexy Soccer Player. This is not good at all. But she has no choice. She needs a place to stay and she needs this job.

Boy with soccer ball

Scott doesn’t want a PA and Felicity doesn’t want to lose the job, so let the games begin. As these two get to know each other, and Scott sees what kind of a woman Felicity is, he suddenly realizes he doesn’t want to run her off anymore. Just the opposite. He wants her to stay.

But Scott’s life isn’t here in Quail Hollow anymore. As soon as he gets released by the Dr., he’s leaving. It’s what he has to do. Can he and Felicity enjoy a little fling, just enjoy the time they do have together with no attachments, until he leaves? Or is his heart already getting involved?

I enjoyed this so much. I loved the relationship between Felicity and her son. And I loved watching the relationship build between Scott and little Tyler, and also between Scott and Felicity. Try as they did to keep their hearts out of things, it became impossible the longer they were together. And I have to mention Scott’s grandmother, Edna. I loved her. She was quirky and fun and just what Felicity and Tyler needed. She was also much wiser than she let on.

This really was such a sweet, wonderful romance that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. Kyra is such a fabulous author and I can’t wait to see what she is going to do next!

This is a fun and charming sports romance, and it also deals with a couple of issues which rarely get addressed in this category, the most significant one being professional sportsmen dealing with serious injuries and the rehab from such, and players ‘aging out’ and facing the end of their careers. There’s a refreshing trope flip where, for once, it’s the HERO who has to make a significant life change in order to make the relationship work - too often I see heroines giving up their dreams for lu ...more

3.5 stars.
This was very amusing to read, with relatable characters. I found myself laughing or smiling with Kyra Jacobs’ humor and how hero and heroine embark in what they think is an innocent fling, without knowing they’re already too involved. The instant attraction really worked well for me in this case, the author wrote it in a rather convincing way.

3.5 stars. This is the first book that I've read from Kyra Jacobs and I can happily say that I am a fan of her work now. I found this book to be amusing and entertaining to read. Scott might be out and not playing soccer at the moment due to his injury but that does not mean he needs an assistant...well according to him. Felicity might not want to be the personal assistant to Scott but when she loses her job and her apartment catches on fire she has no other option to accept the job. Felicity an ...more

This was a good read. The usual determined athlete bent on making all the dreams he thought were important coming true, meets the down on her luck single mom with the very loveable little kid. The banter was interesting & the sarcasm strong, the chemistry hot enough to start a fire. Add in the ever unflappable grandmother who even though she says she’s not impressed with his choice of career still knows more about it than she lets on & the agent who you love to hate makes this a wonderfu ...more

This book was not bad overall, but it just wasn't engaging. I tried to enjoy it, but nothing could compel me to keep reading except sheer determination.

The characters seemed to show unreasonable dissatisfaction with the things that faced them - Scott didn't want an assistant? Just deal with it. Felicity complains her new boss is giving her unnecessary tasks? It's still part of her job.

I think my biggest issue was a scene early on where Felicity turns up to work and Scott.... thinks

Scott has one dream of becoming a famous soccer player. Everything else in his life is put on hold. He sustains an injury which forces him to take time out to recuperate and he can't wait for that time to be over, so that he can go back to fulfilling his dreams.

Felicity is a single mother, struggling to make ends meet. Her whole life revolves around her son Tyler.

It's easy to dismiss this book just by looking at the title - and I'm not going to lie, the cheesy title did take me a little while to get over. But once you do get past the title, this is actually a really lovely story, regardless of whether you like soccer/football (depending on where you're from) or not. With a swoon-y male lead who just happens to be a soccer player, and a feisty heroine who's just doing what she needs to support her son and her, as well as a fun grandma and adorable son, you're bo ...more

I can’t believe this is the first time for me to read Kyra Jacobs book. Clearly I’m way behind and need to catching up. “The Soccer Player and the Single Mom” is a lot of fun! The title might not sound so catchy nor conjure a novel scenario in my head, but the story is hopping with such cheer and vibrant characters that gave me the hoot from the start to finish.

Kyra Jacobs is a new author to me but that is about to change after reading the very entertaining The Soccer Player and the Single Mom because I loved getting to know the sassy mum and the very grumpy player.

I had fun with THE SOCCER PLAYER AND THE SINGLE MOM. Felicity and Scott really do start out as a “what the heck is this couple doing together” feeling yet the chemistry is there from the start… everyone’s just ignoring it (like that helps at all). It’s also true that early on in this story Scott often comes off as a grown-up cry baby who isn’t getting his own way. I get that he doesn’t want to be out of the game, but an injury needs time to heal – even he has to ackn

I really enjoyed this story! Scott is a pro soccer star sidelined by an injury who’s come home for a second opinion. Just cause his high school buddy is a pediatrician doesn’t mean he doesn’t know his stuff! His agent hires an assistant to keep him from overdoing it & help him with PR events. Scott treats her like the arrogant pro athlete he is at the beginning. Then he begins to feel bad for it & act better.

I love Felicity!

Injured professional soccer player Scott Gillie moved back home to Quail Hollow to stay with his grandmother Edna while he healed from an injury. His agent hires widowed Felicity Shaw to be his assistant until he’s healed from injuring his knee because she needed a job after the factory she was working at closed suddenly.

Scott and Felicity made me laugh many times reading the story because Scott was a pain in the butt and his grandmother took no prisoners

This book will pull at your heart from the beginning to end, emotional overload. Felicity seems to have the darkest cloud hanging over her head. Her husband has passed away and she is raising her 5 year old son by herself. If things couldn’t get any worse, she sees on the news her company is being shut down.
A chance encounter with Scott Gillie, and his agent JB, in the doctor’s office, may just be the break she needs. JB, sees there is potential in Felicity and offers her a position as Scott’s

Such a sweet romance!

There's a string of pretty big coincidences that bring Scott and Felicity into the same circles, but once they are they're darn cute together. Scott's grandmother is a hoot, and Felicity's son Tyler is adorable--together with the hero and heroine they make this a fun story to read. The would-be steamier scenes are fade to black, though there are some toe-curling kisses on the page. Scott grows up nicely during the course
