This final instalment in Bec McMaster’s London Steampunk: The Blue Blood Conspiracy series proved to be everything I was hoping for.  They’ve been among the most consistently enjoyable and entertaining books I’ve read over the past couple of years, and they’ve only got better as the series has progressed, delivering fast-paced, action-packed and intricately constructed stories featuring strong, engaging characters and intense, steamy romances which deliver immensely satisfying HEAs readers can believe will last because of the strong emotional connections the author develops  between all her heroes and heroines.

Dukes Are Forever sees the final showdown between the Duke of Malloryn and his arch-enemy, Lord Balfour, a confrontation that’s been brewing throughout the whole series.  Readers have been there every step of the way as Malloryn and his hand-picked Company of Rogues have discovered the existence of a new, deadlier form of vampire, a virus engineered to kill blue-bloods, and a group of discontent former Echelon set on destroying London and on bringing down the Queen.  Ms. McMaster has woven the threads of her story together incredibly well, taking our heroes from a position of… not quite weakness, but of knowing that their faceless enemy was always one step ahead – to one of strength as they’ve gradually put together the pieces of the puzzle, united in their determination to protect the city and the Queen, and to end Balfour, no matter what the cost to themselves.

The sense of brotherhood the author has created between the CoR – a disparate group of blue bloods, verwulfen, humans and mecs, all with specialist skills (many of them deadly) - is one of the things that has really stood out for me throughout this series.  There’s never any doubt that this team has been forged in fire and that those bonds are unbreakable; they’d do anything for one another and genuinely care for each other, not that they’d ever say such a thing, showing instead how much they care and how well they know each other through their affectionate teasing and witty banter.  And unlike so many series, there’s never a doubt that the Rogues dodge in and out of all the books for any reason other than that they’re necessary to the plot; there are no “just for the sake of it” cameos here!

From the beginning – and from his appearances in the earlier London Steampunk series – I’ve been intrigued by Malloryn.  Handsome, coolly controlled and uber-confident (and sexy as hell!), he’s one of those heroes who keeps everything locked away and buried deep inside – not because he doesn’t feel, but because he feels deeply and is protecting himself from again experiencing the deep hurt he suffered in his youth.  He’s become my favourite hero of the series (I suspected he would be - I’ve got a thing for the volcanic-fire-beneath-layers-of-ice type),  and the relationship the author has built between him and the Rogues is just wonderful; they annoy him and tease the hell out of him and ground him and stop him getting too big for his boots (! – you’ll get that one once you’ve read the book!) and the moment he finally admits to himself that they’re at his side because they want to be there for him and not just because they’re duty bound is one of the real highlights of the story.

This wouldn’t be a Bec McMaster book without a steamy romance and wow, does she deliver on that score.  When I first learned that Malloryn had been trapped into offering marriage to a young woman he clearly had no interest in, I thought maybe she’d remain a peripheral character, or that perhaps something would happen to prevent the match.  Because we only see her through Malloryn’s eyes, we believe Adele Hamilton to be a cold, selfish schemer who was out to catch herself a powerful husband and succeeded beyond her wildest dreams.  But then the author starts to drop clever hints that perhaps there’s more to it than meets the eye, and those hints are strengthened in a climactic (and seriously hot!) scene towards the end of You Only Love Twice , when Adele saves Malloryn’s life at considerable risk to her own and they show they’re not quite as indifferent to each other as they’d have others – and themselves – believe.  And then during the course of this book, we learn more about what prompted Adele to act as she did; she’s not proud of it and daily feels guilty at having forced a genuinely good man into something he clearly didn’t want, but her reasons, when they are revealed fully, are completely understandable and encompass more than just herself and her own safety.

As Dukes are Forever opens, we discover Adele is being pursued by a gentleman other than her husband, a man who has links to the Rising Sons, the organisation of former Echelon who want to restore the old hierarchy wherein blue bloods ruled the roost and all the other species are kept firmly in their – much lower – stations.  When presented with evidence of Adele’s association with this man, Malloryn realises he has to take steps to work out whether she’s actively working against him – not that she’s in a position to know anything about his work with the Rogues – or if she’s being duped and used as a way to get to him.  This leads to the waging of a merry war between them – only this one is a war of seduction, one in which Malloryn would seem to have the upper hand… until Adele shows she knows how to fight fire with fire, and proves as adept at taking apart her husband’s icy veneer as he is at getting past her defences.  The chemistry between them is hot enough to blister paint and their ultimate compatibility is reinforced by the way we’re shown how similar they are; both very guarded and self-possessed, having built up layers and layers of walls around their emotions for good reasons  - and I just loved watching them stripping away those layers and becoming vulnerable to each other.

I’ve said as much about the plot as I’m going to, but if you’ve been following the series, I think you’ll already have an idea of what’s in store, and if not, then go and get a copy of Kiss of Steel and make a start – you’ve got ten excellent novels to experience!  I’ve enjoyed every minute I’ve spent in the London Steampunk world and while I’m going to miss it and these fabulous characters, I’m nonetheless incredibly grateful to have been on this wonderful journey.  Dukes are Forever is a wonderfully rousing and eminently fitting finish to the series, and I loved every minute of it.

No Rogue left behind.

It means something to them. It means something to you. It means something to me.

Stop thinking of it as a weakness, and start thinking of it as a strength.

I'm realy sad when the series I love finishes... :((((

I was expecting Malloryn's story since the beginning and the conslusion of the feud between him and Balfour and while I loved this book, I must admit that it was rather anticlimatic!

I loved how Bec McMaster managed to transform Adele from a hated character to a good one!

When Adele was introduced I saw her as a grabby debutante who forced Malloryn's hand, but here we get to see her POV and why she did it. I must admit that I would have done the same in her shoes!

She also is not stupid at all, but very intelligent and she really helps the Rogues and Malloryn with her clever ideas. She also brutally honest both with herself and with Malloryn and it was fun to read how Malloryn was sometimes left without words because of her wit!

Malloryn, as we knew since the beginning of the series, is very, very straitlaced, almost arrogant. He refuses to get attached to anybody because of the usual miscoception that "if I love somebody, he will die or be used against me". Not that it's completly wrong, because Balfour would and will use that against him.

Here he will learn that if he loves or not someone it doesn't matter at the end!

I loved how Adele managed to lure hi out of his self imposed shell! It was so lovely to read!

The anticlimatic thing was how they defeated Balfour... It was too easy: I wanted him to suffer after everything he did to everybody, but, alas, it was not to be and I was left wanting! I'm bloodthirsty like that, what can I do?

I'll be missing all the lovely, wonderful characters... I hope Bec McMaster will write more books placed in this unverse!

**I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.**

Yes, I absolutely cried. I can’t believe it is the end of this era/series. I’m going to miss the Company of Rogues and their nonstop bantering and espionage and whatnots.

Here are some of my thoughts:
• This has definitely exceeded my expectations – and my expectations were already pretty damn high after all the glimpses we got into Malloryn & Adele’s story in previous books.
• I had no idea that this Adele was the same Adele we met in Lena’s book! I honestly forgot her name and her character – but the moment I saw Lena talking to Adele – I was like, waittt is that the friend we met in Lena’s book?? I’m actually very pleasantly surprised by this development. I remember really liking her when reading Lena’s book and hoping she’ll get her HEA. It also makes this story of Adele a lot more meaningful because she really has gone through so much – with people taking what they want from her and being cruel to her – when she just wants to survive and have her sister safe.
• I would have liked to see more of Hattie though. Because a big motivator for Adele was protecting her sister from what she went through with facing the Echelon, I wanted to see that more in this book.
• It is entertaining seeing the competition and bantering between Malloryn and Adele. I truly love them as a couple – they are just so perfectly matched. I adore the moments when Malloryn realizes and respects that Adele is intelligent and capable. It’s funny when she does or says thing just to annoy him/get a rise out of him, especially when he is usually so unflappable with anyone else.
• It is also great to see a heroine who is not invincible physically – but she can be strong. You really see how strong Adele has made herself to be in order to survive. I am proud of how far her character has gone. Especially when I think about what she went through in Lena’s book, it is amazing how she has clawed her way through, survived against predators, and fought for the life she wanted. She is a true survivor.
• And for Malloryn to give her that sense of safety and freedom, that is great. I mean he certainly saved her in a way. However, we learn in this book that they both actually help each other out ultimately and have saved each other in different ways. There are many touching moments in this book as we see Malloryn and Adele learn to trust one another and begin to have hope for a future together.
• I really do feel bad for Malloryn’s past. It makes sense why he is so hard-edged, but I am glad that he is finally opening up, reaching out, and gaining hope in this book, especially after realizing how much Adele and the COR mean to him.
• This book in particular, we get a lot of cameos from characters in the original series. I miss them all so much! Specifically, I adore seeing Lena and Will and their baby, Alex! It’s heart-melting. In addition, it’s simply lovely seeing the supportive friendship between Adele and Lena again.

Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and this whole series. I 100000% need a spinoff series because I’m not ready to let the London Steampunk world go (I’ll never be ready to be honest). This book has made me so sentimental. 5 stars for this book and for this whole wonderful, wonderful series.

Did we love this book? Well, yeah. It's the conclusion of a series so we can't say all that much about the plot without spoiling it. But we can promise you that these two dumdums trapped in a loveless marriage are soon going to discover that there's no reason it has to be a cold one!

You see, the Duke of Malloryn (who’s supposed to be super smart) learns that his wife has been flirting with another man. (Oh yeah, and that guy is an enemy agent!) Even though Malloryn's made it clear that Adele shouldn't even expect their marriage to be consummated, he's jealous. He won't admit it, though, determining instead that the most likely reason that an enemy spy is sniffing around his wife is because SHE’S a spy, too, instead of, oh we dunno, trying to plumb her for information about Malloryn instead?

But it’s all good because our favorite spymaster decides that this is the perfect excuse to seduce his wife.

25-Word Summaries:

Meg: A spy is sniffing around your wife. Do you: A) Investigate her?; B) Freeze her out?; C) Seduce any info out of her? [C, DUH]

Laine: Adele accidentally (ish) tricked Malloryn into marriage, which was consistent for a man who has sworn off love and decided to be everyone's dad instead.

Four and a half.
What a tremendous way to end this series. This intelligent, fast moving and beautifully atmospheric steampunk fantasy has held me riveted since its first inception. It's not often that a series delivers on its initial promise but I can honestly say every book has added to this incredible journey.
Yes at heart it's a political, fantasy drama but the characters come bursting to glorious life fuelled by numerous emotions but in the hands of this author there's always time for passion and love. I loved the twists, the machinations and it all had to come back to a closed off Duke trapped into a loveless marriage to a scheming woman. Malloryn doesn't trust Adele but he finds her impossible to ignore and getting under her skin to discover her secrets turns out to be the undoing of them both. Yes this book marks an end but it's also a beautiful beginning and this hopeless romantic couldn't ask for more.
This voluntary take is of an advance copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair.

Very good conclusion to the Blue Blood Conspiracy books. While I enjoyed it immensely, I didn't feel quite as connected to Malloryn and Adele as a couple. This is probably because McMaster has penned some really terrific foils for one another. Every couple can't be your favorite. However, the excitement is done so, so well and in typical McMaster style. The tower rescue scene was probably my favorite. The rogues gel well as a team. I am definitely going to miss the London Steampunk crowd and world!

These two especially the heroine were <3 !! The heroine was all kinds of tough, sweet, kick-ass and above all a heroine of her own story who could see through the hero, his lies, seductive webs and save her own hide. She didn't let the society or her parents browbeat her instead scripted her own escape from an untenable life and made the best of what she had.

Truly a grand finale of the series! The Duke of Malloryn has totally owned the Finale, the exact same way he owned the series. His hidden attractiveness just exploded as soon as he was free to be both Auvry Cavill and the Duke of Malloryn. All the thanks went to Adele, his Duchess, who was so perfect as his wife, his partner, and his lover. Loved them together so much!

Their path toward a happy ending was no way smooth. Adele's insecurities were life long nurtured. While the Duke's icy self control locked the man's feelings tightly inside. The fun began when Adele went for broke and let loose her innocent and seductive fire to lick through the Duke's icy control and literally burn through it. If you happened to look for a sensual read on a Valentine's night, this one was for you.

What about the extremely eventful path to the happy ending? The story was definitely soaked and splashed with buckets of blood both red and blue, while the Queen's Ivory Tower and various structures and more were blasted and blown into rubbles. The Duke, the Duchess, and his COR family of superior fighters, were always one and two steps behind their nemesis, Lord Balfour and his army. I was totally mesmerized and amazed at the outcome of the final battle! Nothing could be more satisfying than witnessing the bloody defeat of the enemies and finally the total eradication of all of them in one night!

Sharing an example of a good read for the Valentine's night. Here's one of my favorite scenes:

"I love you, . . . And I will love you as long as we both live. . . I will love you when you push me against bookcases. And throw me over your shoulder. . . I will love you when you threaten to lock me away for my own good. And I will even love you when you are being your arrogant best and clearly wrong."

"And when you throw books at my head?"

"Especially then," . . .

"I'll consider myself a lucky man as I'm dodging glassware and curses."

"That's the spirit,". . .

And so the journey (or rather my London Steampunk arc 1 and 2 marathon reading, lol) has ended. With Dukes Are Forever, McMaster said her goodbye to the world of the blue bloods, verwulfen, mechs, dhampir, etc with its steampunk elements. I will never forget the day when I give book 1, Kiss of Steel a chance even though its needs years for me to finally complete the series. Kiss of Steel is the book that start it all, that make McMaster is one of my favorite authors to date. And now, after I immersed myself into her Victorian steampunk world, I have a bittersweet moment to say goodbye again.

Dukes Are Forever is the culmination point between Malloryn and his nemesis cold war, Lord Balfour. All pieces are finally revealed (even though most of them already opened in book 3 and 4). Malloryn barely recovered from his captivity and torture, yet Balfour will do anything to destroy him. Anyway, who knows that Malloryn's cold marriage to Adele turn to explosive in the end? I like how McMaster turn the tables not just to Malloryn, but Adele as well. Their tipping point actually start in book 3, and reach its peak in this book. Who knows that behind her icy demeanor, Adele is just an ordinary woman that longed to be loved? I must admit, even Adele just a human, this woman have plenty of scars. First from her childhood memories, underestimated by her father just because she born as female. And then how she is in the bottom of the food chain in Echelon, just because she is a WOMAN. Like the era she had born, she doesn't have a say, so basically she will do anything to survive. For others, she will look ruthless, but maybe that why she's a good opponent to Malloryn, because both of them were good at hiding their feelings to the rest of the world.

Dukes are Forever is basically about how Malloryn, the MIGHTY Malloryn finally fall to his knees. Literally and metaphorically (idk if this a right term since I wrote my review on apps, lol). McMaster already give reader glimpses to his past, his devil-may-care personality, his action when he pulling the strings of events in the previous books. In his book, we will get to know why Malloryn is Malloryn, ruthless, cold but also like Adele, he longed to love and be loved. It's just his rage, his sense of avenge toward Balfour can blinded him sometimes, rendered him sideways, make him cannot see that he have the rogues beside him. I know that he didn't want any of the rogues of people he love died again like what happen to his first love, but well its about time for Malloryn to open his heart. My favorite part is when he recalled the memories when Adele was drunk and she said that her favorite husband is not the duke, but his "Auvry Cavill" side. I can feel how he ached to love but in the other side he afraid to show his feeling. Another is when they finally recognize their feeling to each other and Malloryn renew their marriage vow, I fell like "it's about time, Malloryn. It's about time."

In the term of "steam" (ehm, of course this aspect must be reviewed. Thoroughly) this book is definitely the steamiest book, with the game of seduction between Malloryn and Adele. Haha..who said theirs marriage are cold? Jokes on me for this one since McMaster hold no barrels. You have hate sex, you have "omg you alive" sex, and you got all that tender moments of make love scene. Sigh, if only you also did this with To Catch a Rogue and Mission:Improper, because I feel that this two books are lacking in smexy scenes department even though the sexual tension is off the chart, lol! Why McMaster, whyyy? T_T

With all that opinion above, I feel that this book is heavily on romance and angst compared to the previous. There were some actions, twist and suspense, but in the end Dukes are Forever is how Adele and Malloryn come to their senses (and feeling) and discover that love is indeed, the greatest weapon (haha, I sound corny). Maybe McMaster already learn from the previous books, like To Catch a Rogue and You Only Love Twice that have so many points of view, so Dukes are Forever just focus to Malloryn and Adele. As for the final book, I can said that the book is okay even its not exceeded my expectation. I think I have a high expectation and can't help to compare Dukes are Forever with Of Silks and Steams since both are the final book. I will said Of Silks and Steams is better since its about a bloody revolution and the stakes definitely higher, while in Dukes are Forever the end kinda a little bit of anti-climatic. Idk, maybe McMaster running of her fumes because of what she had write in To Catch a Rogue that definitely have higher stakes, or maybe another factor. Either way, she conclude the arc 2 nicely, and its nice to have Malloryn, Adele and the Company of Rogues to finally find their peace.

Speaking favorites, for arc 1, from the book I loved to okay is:
1. My Lady Quicksilver (I read it TWICE..and I want to read it again, tbh, lol)
2. Of Silks and Steam ( a much better and well written conclusion book)
3. Heart of Iron (yes Ami, I take it back my "Lena is bratty" comment, haha)
4. Kiss of Steel (the book that start it all)
5. Forged by Desire (if only Perry don't playing victim that much *sigh).

For arc 2, it's:
1. To Catch of Rogues (I know why its get its RITA nomination. Full of action and ahhh, young love!)
2. Mission:Improper (I really LIKED Byrnes and Ingrid banters. Gawd..to see Byrnes always with his dark sense of humor for the rest of the series. I always think that he's very much like Lynch, in arc 1 he's so mysterious, all that dark and brooding. Ingrid is a really good match for Byrnes, since she bring the best of him. Also don't forget their battle of wits!).
3. You Only Love Twice (the espionage, the suspense, also Gemma is the most badass heroines!)
4. Dukes are Forever (sorry Malloryn, lol)
5. The Mech Who Loved Me (eh..)

Favorite couples is still, of course, Rosalind and Lynch, followed with Charlie and Lark. For heroines, I like them all (yes even Perry, hahaha), although for heroes, my favorite is Lynch, Charlie, Blade (sigh, he's the first hero, you know and I still adored him. I like that he got significant role in To Catch a Rogue) and Byrnes, with the less favorite is Kincaid, lol. If you read my review of the Mech Who Loved Me, you will know why. Although, I wished McMaster will someday write about Herbert and how he meet his wife. And in the end, finally the queen find her love again after what happen to her. I don't know if her love for Gideon Scott will open another arcs, since Gideon is human, and I can see that some blue blood (especially Echelon) won't accept their relationship.

I can't recommend enough for London Steampunk, especially if you like steampunk with dash of paranormal elements, heroes to die for and heroines that always fight back. Although I feel that Arc 2 have a little, very littleeee downgrade compared to Arc 1, I still enjoyed this. And with what happen in my country right now (election and all), her books is a distraction that I need. So what are you waiting for? Start with Kiss of Steel, and you will not regret it! :)

Dukes Are Forever
4.5 Stars

In the aftermath of their forced marriage, Auvry Cavill, Duke of Malloryn, suspects that his bride, Adele Hamilton, may be in league with his enemies. To prove his suspicions one way or the other, he decides to engage in the unthinkable - the seduction of his wife.

Malloryn and Adele long-awaited showdown more than lives up to expectations. Their banter and chemistry have been a highlight of the previous installments, and their love/hate relationship continues to play out with each giving as good as they get. Seeing Malloryn engage with the one woman who can bring him to his knees is immensely satisfying.

The resolution to the ongoing Blueblood Conspiracy has some intense and exciting moments. Nevertheless, much of the action has already played out in earlier books, and as such, it is the romance that truly shines.

In sum, an excellent conclusion to the arc. There is one final epilogue novella to complete the series.

Dukes Are Forever was an absolute doozie to read!

Adele was perfectly demure and appropriate, but behind her facade hid a passionate personality as well as a cunning-and deeply observational-mind. Adele traps Malloryn into a most inconvenient marriage never expecting feelings to come of it.

Malloryn, (Auvry) is fiercely protective of his motley family of spies and loyal to his Queen, but it was his moments of intense curiosity and passionate nature peeking through that I enjoyed most!

When I first started this series, the impression of Adele through everyone else’s viewpoint, especially Malloryn’s, was distinctly NOT in her favor. Why did Adele choose Malloryn? What would she gain? Was there an ulterior motive? I don’t even know why I was questioning matters?! McMaster has this diabolical method of setting the game pieces on the board in such a way that when the AHA! moment hits and the sunshine comes out from behind the clouds, all you can think is “I can’t believe I didn’t see that coming!!”

(Obviously, McMaster did her job pretty darned well, because I was totally sold on Adele and Malloryn’s relationship! There were so many surprises keeping me on the edge of my seat until the end!)

This was a flipping fantastic conclusion to an amazing series! Malloryn and Adele were a perfect balance of witty repartee and keen intelligence giving new meaning to battle of the sexes! Mixing those elements along with their enticing attraction to one another was icing on the cake!

I put off reading the last two books in this series because honestly I just wasn't prepared for it to end and I'm kicking myself for putting it off for so long because omg it was good.

I wasn't sure how I'd feel about Adele given her underhanded behavior several books ago but man did I end up loving her so much. The chemistry between her and Malloryn was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I loved seeing all of the couples from previous books show up as well. I've been reading this series/world since 2012 which is crazy and I've loved every book set in this world.

I'm sad it's over but I did hear the Russian Court was getting a turn with a certain brooding King who I'm DYING to read about. Honestly gimme him now please.

In short, if you enjoy:
- Vampires
- Werewolves
- Steampunk
- Mysteries
- Conspiracies
- Kick ass h's who love science and weapons
- Dreamy alpha H's who worship their strong and fierce ladies
- 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 hot sex
- Historical romances

Then you absolutely need to start at the beginning with Blade the OG dreamboat vampire in Kiss of Steele.

Great ending to the series. I was genuinely worried for all my beloved characters, so A+ for tension. And I've loved Malloryn forever. All through the series you can see how much he adores his Rogues, even though he can't really grasp that himself. It was wonderful watching Adele bring him to the realization that no matter how cold he tried to be, he'd never be able to suppress his heart. And of course, now I want London Steampunk the next generation about everyone's kids.

Bec McMaster kept the Duke of Malloryn's story for last, teasing us about his future HEA for a few books, and she delivered superbly with the intensity, the challenges, the internal dilemma and the passion that was brewing between the MC. If I had to resume this book in two words, I'd use the author's expression : carnal warfare.

I'm no expert, but I think that one of the secret of a marriage that works is trust and respect. That could certainly explain why the union of Adele and the Duke of Malloryn makes for a frosty relationship and months of living together and keeping their distance. She trapped him into marriage (it's not as bad as it sound because he still made a choice), but for a man who keep control in all aspects of his life, it make him wary about her and he made it clear from the beginning that it will be a marriage in name only. Anyway, he already vowed to never fall in love again when he lost the woman he love almost two decade ago. But he never expected to declare war on his wife or that she would be willing to play, nor that she would be so good at the game of seduction that make him consider surrendering. At the same time, she's a distraction he cannot afford, since once again, there's enemies to defeat and clues to uncover.

Sad that this series is ending, but so happy about the finale. We've been waiting for Malloryn's story since one series ago and I was so curious to know what it would be for this charismatic man with a powerful presence. This author play well with the anticipation, letting not only the characters but the reader as well, waiting eagerly for the climax (in and out of the bedroom ;p). I'm probably repeating myself, but Bec McMaster is a favorite because she handle brilliantly all the elements that makes an entertaining reading : action, romance and interactions between the characters. And this world she created mix perfectly different genre that I like : steampunk, romance, historical and fantasy.

If you don't know this author or never read one of her book, I wish I gave you the envy to give it a try.

If I would have read all the books of the London Steampunk series before this, this would be a five stars read. It came very very close as it is and I just couldn't put it down.

Being true to myself and my religion, I have read the first book in this world years ago and now I just jumped headfirst into Dukes Are Forever after years of contemplating the merits of reading a last book without context. Why did I do this? Because this book is every catnip I have ever had in historical romance, hurled into the world of blue bloods and vampires with two shamelessly cunning and possessively protective protagonists. This book is everything I want in my romance and more.

To be perfectly honest, I tried to read the first book in this spinoff and the only thing I remember is that I hopelessly fallen in lust with Malloryn, our lord and spymaster. It was only a few glimpses but he is every Slytherin trait I have ever loved in my dark and handsome men - he stole my heart in those few minutes and it left an impression. And he gets his true match in Adele, a woman who steamrolls into his life with a force and ruffles his carefully constructed world forcefully making place for herself while decimating the object of his nightmares. All while being human. I love Adele. She matches Malloryn at every turn and doesn't let him get away with his shit.

And the most glorious part? This novel has the best hell hath no fury like a woman scorned scene of all time with a furious love scene to top it and it is in the first third. That scene was the catharsis, the best scene imaginable and tbh it's not five stars for me because the aftermatch just couldn't top it.

I devoured this novel in a night and half a day, putting it down was not an option. It was glorious and I loved it.

And all good things must come to an end

Dukes Are Forever closes the chapter of London Steampunk series, that started nine books prior with Kiss of Steel. I postponed reading this, as long as I could, because I wasn't ready to say goodbye. And now that I've finished, I felt both melancholy and hangover, as usually happens when a great series end. But boy, McMaster delivers such a satisfying closure -- with the action and the romance -- alongside two of my favorite characters from this series.

This is the end of the line, as Malloryn and the rest of the Company of Rogues plans to thwart the plan made by Lord Balfour and his army. Lord Balfour is Malloryn long-time archenemy -- ever since Balfour killed the first woman Malloryn loved, seventeen years previously. Malloryn swears he will not let any other woman close because he doesn't want to lose another. But he never prepares himself for Adele Cavill.

Let's start from the story arc itself -- I loved how McMaster put all the threads together. Characters from the original London Steampunk also make appearance. Tower burns, enemies killed, and it such a delicious action-packed finish. McMaster is one skillful plotter; although most of the cards were opened during book #3 and book #4, and this is just the endgame.

As for the romance... GAH!!! First we see Adele as this cold calculating woman -- but we see her from Malloryn's point of view. It's not a complete picture. Then in this book, Adele shows her worth. She's not only smart, and willing to meet Malloryn head-on, but the way she plays her role in creating a network to protect women from the blue bloods, that's ADMIRABLE. There's more than meets the eye with Adele, and how I loved reading Malloryn brought down to his knees in front of his wonderful wife. I also loved how the other members of CoR accepted Adele easily into their family.

As for Malloryn, he's been the head of Company of Rogue, one who brings everyone together. I can't really say much about him because well, I love him for four books already. I just enjoyed seeing how he tries to deny Adele but realizes that ALL the rules he makes are broken one by one. You don't stand a chance, Malloryn! *laugh*.

If there's one thing that makes this not yet a 5-star read is the fact that I expect some hurt/comfort moments, after Malloryn being tortured in Russia in the previous book. But I don't get it here, and I'm slightly disappointed at that.

And because this is the last book, here's top 5 heroes and heroines from this series (incl. the original London Steampunk)

HEROINES
1) Rosalind Fairchild -> no matter what personae she uses, she tops everybody, including Jasper :). that opening button scene is one of the most sensual moments ever!
2) Lena Todd -> clearly, she wraps Will around her finger
3) Gemma Townsend -> let’s face it, Malloryn cannot do anything without her
4) Adele Cavill -> and another woman that put Duke of Malloryn on his actual knees
5) Mina Duvall -> for over a decade, she builds the network of humanist, playing the court, and helps overthrown the Prince Consort, all on her own

HEROES
1) Charlie Todd -> because he shows that best heroes, don’t have to be all brute or physically strong, Charlie is MY sugarplum
2) Auvry Cavill, the Duke of Malloryin -> he’s just one of the best characters ever, with his commanding presence, his intelligence, and his strong will
3) Will Carver -> loved his loyalty and dedication to both Blade and Lena
4) Leo Barrons -> because he shows his worthiness to the rebellion
5) Garrett Reed -> his love towards Perry just melts me

COUPLES
1) Charlie and Lark -> they are each other's first time, how sweet is that?
2) Lena and Will -> just the ULTIMATE couple!
3) Malloryn and Adele -> together, they can rule the world!

Dukes Are Forever is finally here. Readers of the London Steampunk: The Blue Blood Conspiracy series have been waiting for the final showdown between the head of the Company of Rogues (CoR), Duke Malloryn, and his life-long arch-nemesis, Balfour. The story arc has been building for the past four books, even longer if you go back to the original series. Ms. McMaster does not disappoint with this sweeping series conclusion.

Malloryn and Balfour have played a life-and-death game of cat and mouse for years. Things come to a head after the CoR saved Malloryn from Balfour in Russia in the previous book. Now back in London, Malloryn grapples with the nightmares of his torture while growing even more obsessed with protecting the CoR and his wife, Adele. The constant vigilance is wearing away at his mind, body, and soul, allowing room for Adele to slip under his defenses.

Malloryn has a good heart, even though it has been hardened over many years. It is evident in the lengths he goes to keep his distance from Adele and protect the CoR. Yet he starts a cruel game of seduction with Adele because he’s uncertain if she’s an enemy agent. And with Adele refusing to open up to Malloryn (because that would give him more power over her), their game gains momentum, capturing them both in the web of their own desires. I am glad that the truth of Malloryn’s secret life comes to light within the first third of the book. Equally important is that Adele pushes forward to help Malloryn, despite the hurt Malloryn inflicted on her heart. These two components make the story much stronger than if they pair had dragged out their mistrust and secrets.

Malloryn and Adele do not have an easy road to their HEA. Their relationship started under an umbrella of deceit, yet Malloryn still married Adele. I can’t help but wonder what would have happened if Adele had been more truthful from the beginning, but honestly, I don’t think it would have gotten through to Malloryn. He would have only seen her as another person to protect, rather than fall in love with the smart and lively woman. There is a lot of back and forth; the emotional roller coaster is tough, but in the end, worth the ride. As individuals, both are formidable, but together, they are unstoppable.

In the end, I finish Dukes Are Forever feeling a bit melancholy as I say goodbye to this wonderful series. A clever and exciting blend of paranormal, steampunk, and historical romance, the London Steampunk series has provided me with hours of entertainment, taking me on a thrilling adventure. Ms. McMaster’s world is one I hope to visit again.

My Rating: B+ Liked It A Lot

It is rare that I :
Can find a series already fully written
Devour all stories in that series within a few weeks
Enjoy each story on its own merits and not find too much rinse/repeat
Upon completion, still want more
Cause I did, and I do.

I adored the final nugget here in this 2 part, 5 story per, landscape of sex, vamps, and metal. The final romance in the later series had some similarities to the final story in the original series...which is probably in part why I especially enjoyed them - Royals...I’m one who prefers a romance that features rich people...and Dukes work nicely...especially when the are good looking, the Alpha, large & in charge...and I’m not just talking in the office nor only on the throne 😉

Malloryn has been at the helm for numerous stories throughout - having him fall head, heart, and penis for Adele who started out books ago as the throwaway friend of another h was brilliant. Adele has to be my fav h in the whole series and a stand out for this genre. Plus...she STAYS human. So far.

McMaster better write more cause I want to Return to Russia. This Steampunklite World is My Mecca.

I voluntarily reiewed an early copy of this book :) it happened... it finally happened you guys... there are no more words left... I finished the book... one of my most highly anticipated releases of the entire year... and not it's over... *lifts head up from my kindle and looks around* how am I supposed to go back to my normal life now? I fell head over heels into this absolutely amazing steampunk world with paranormal vibes that Bec created and I don't want to leave it... going into this concluding novel, I had my expectations set high... very high... like right up there in the stratosphere high... ;) and I was not disappointed, because this novel has it all... :) but before I get to share with you all the love I have for it, I have to tell you a few basic informations, for those of you who are new to this world, especially since this is the final book in a spin-off series :) don't worry, most of my review will be completely spoiler free and any information that might be considered spoilery will be clearly marked with a warning before :) ok, so let's talk some more about the world :)

The original series, London steampunk, as well as this spin-off one, London steampunk the blue blood conspiracy, takes place in an alternate Victorian London, where besides humans, who are not very powerful, we have a few other groups... there are blue bloods, similar to vampires, who are the ruling force in London... with a thirst for blood, stronger and faster than humans, they are a force to be reckoned with... then there arealso verwulfen, treated mostly like animals and slaves, they are also strong and very hard to kill... and let's not forget about mechs, humans with mechanical parts, who traded years of their lives for them, and work tirelessly in the enclaves... as you can imagine, all groups besides blue bloods are not happy with the current situation... so within the first series, where each book evolves around a different couple, we have a bigger story arch all about a rebellion... I highly recommend you guys to start at the beginning, so you can truly appreciate all the awesomeness and get familiar with the characters and all the rules :)

After a truly amazing first series, I was ecstatic to hear that Bec decided to write a spin-off series... let's just say that there were a few secondary characters that totally deserved some time in the spotlight :) ok, so now I will mention a thing that might be considered a spoiler about the ending of that first series, but without too many details :) the spin-off is set about three years after the conclusion of the first one... there's new peace and humans, verwulfen and mechs have much more rights now... unfortunately, not all of blue bloods are satisfied with the new rules... there is a group that longs for the old order of things... that is where our Company of Rogues come into play :) created by Duke of Malloryn, it's a group of individuals who are really good at their own thing, that are supposed to work together now to make sure that the new order of things is safe :) there are blue bloods among them, verwulfen, mech, humans... a very diverse and interesting cast of characters ;) let's just say that with each book in it that I was reading, my opinion about who is my favourite shifted... and I am speaking both when it comes to the individual characters as well as the couples :) back in that first book, we see them unsure of each other... not really working together as best as they can... but that slowly changes... and I can honestly say that all the group scenes, are definitely my favourite to read :) the way they tease each other and joke around... with the nicknames and everything... ;) it gives them an opportunity to lighten the mood that is usually much darker... they deal with some pretty serious issues after all... in case you haven't read the previous books, I will share with you this right now: this is one of my all time favourite series... with a phenomenal writing style, complex characters and a plot that will keep you guessing... and yet still surprise you because you will not see certain things coming... like at all... :) each book is once again centered around a different couple, but the bigger story arch connects them all... and because this group of characters work closely with one another, they appear in all of the books :) full of action, sarcastic banter and sinful seduction, I devoured each installment and fell more in more in love with all of them... so definitely read them all before diving into this fantastic last story :) ok, now that we have all of the informations out of the way, let me jump into all my spoilery thoughts about this conclusion... ;)

Let me make myself clear, I will NOT spoil you things that are happening in this last book, which is the subject of this review, but I will definitely mention some pretty big surprises that happened within the previous stories in this series... so you've been warned, if you are not caught up on the first four novels, avert your eyes and come back once you do read them... unless you are ok with being spoiled... but don't do this to yourself, this series is fantastic and you should enjoy it without the previous knowledge of what's gonna happen... so you can gasp in surprise so hard you might hyperventilate... I know that it was my own reaction... ;) #TrueStory ;) ok, LAST WARNING people, spoilers from the previous four books in this series will appear right now :) this story picks up a few months after certain members of Company of Rogues rescued Malloryn from Russia... he's still not back to being himself, but it's understandable after all the torture that he was under... he and the rest of COR knows that the big threat is back in London and everything is building up to one big event that will change the city... instead of focusing solely on that, Malloryn's attention is diverted by his wife... Adele... :) because now he suspects that she might be working for the enemy... and what better way to uncover secrets of ones wife, than to seduce the truth out of her... and thus the war of seduction begins, because Adele wants some answers of her own... :) to say that I loved this book is an understatement... there are no words good enough to truly express all of my feelings, but I will try to find the best of them either way... :) Bec McMaster is my absolute favourite author of all time... with each new book of hers that I read, I am just solidifying my opinion :) this one was no exception... once again, she gave us a perfect conclusion to a series... on the one hand we finally got the story about Malloryn and Adele... Malloryn, who was forced to marry her after a scandalous encounter... but not what you think it was ;) and Adele... so easily underestimated by people around her... Malloryn was a favourite of mine for a long time... a bit distant, level headed and logical, he ruled the Rogues with a steady hand... to finally be able to get to know more about him, see his different sides... oh what a treat it was... and don't even get me started on Adele... sorely underestimated by all around her, in this installment she can finally shine... she's much smarter than everyone gives her credit for... very clever and patient when she needs to be... she is the perfect match for Malloryn... their banter throughout this whole book was like icing on the cake... delicious and always left me wanting more ;) to see those sparks between them... how Malloryn slowly but surely loses his control... oh, it was definitely worth the wait :) their romance is complicated, because both of them have walls up... and for very good reasons... so when they slowly let each other more into their lives and hearts... be still my heart... *sighs and swoons and melts on the floor* :) besides that whole amazingness, we have the bigger story arch coming to an end... by this time I should just be used to the fact that me trying to guess what's gonna happen is completely futile, because each time I will be surprised... and yet I try and try... ;) let's just say that Bec once again prepared quite a few surprising twists and turns on the way to the big finale... I could not put this story down... I was reading chapter after chapter... and then just one more... ;) because I had to know how everything will end :) and even though I feel very satisfied with this conclusion I certainly hope so that at some point in the future Bec will go back to this world... it's so rich and full of potential, that I can easily see her come up with more fantastic books set in it... :) this final installment had everything that you need from the big ending... fast paced and full of action, but it was all balanced out with intimate and emotional moments... not to mention quite a few hilarious scenes that were a very welcomed break from all the nervous page turning in anticipation what's gonna happen next ;) I cannot recommend you this book, this series... and this author in general, highly enough... :) if you haven't yet picked it up, do it immediately... and once you binge read all of the books, because they are impossible to put down, you can thank me later ;) don't worry, I won't gloat... :) that much... ;) maybe just a little :) but then we can just fangirl together about this amazing world and all the characters in it that we love :)

XOXO

4.5 Stars rounded up to 5

Grade=A-

I raced through three books to get to this one and it was worth it!!!!!!
I loved watching Malloryn and Adele draw closer together unable to resist the pull between them. The buildup leading to this book was well done and I found the event credible.

Both Malloryn and Adele have pasts that make their behavior and actions understandable.
My only major quibble is that we don't really see either of them discuss events that affected them deeply in the past and defined so many of their actions in any detail with each other.
Malloryn only mentions the traumatic event he suffered a few months ago to Adele in passing. I feel like that is a seriously missed opportunity for showing emotional intimacy.

However, that does not detract from my overall enjoyment of the book.
The only downside; I have a book hangover and need help moving on and leaving this world behind.

Dukes are Forever is a big exclamation point to the Blue Blood Conspiracy series. Clearly, Bec McMaster saved the best for last. Of course, I was anxiously awaiting the Duke of Malloryn’s story. We know from previous stories the he is a bit imperious, controlling, and completely willing to sacrifice himself in the service of the people he loves. And despite the fact he is “forced” (does anyone really force Malloryn to do anything?) to marry Adele, he starts to admire and respect his wife.

What I enjoy most about this series is Bec McMaster’s descriptive writing. She balances the right amount characterization with a fun and compelling narrative. There is an edge of horror brought upon by a diabolical villain and really conflicted hero featured in a enemies to lovers trope. It is the perfect nightcap to this marvelous cocktail of paranormal stories.

I've been up and down with the Blue Blood Conspiracy series. I really enjoyed the first two -- Mission: Improper and The Mech Who Loved Me, I think not partially because they focused on side characters I'd been curious about when I met them first in the London Steampunk series. You Only Love Twice started straying into some silliness for me: I do really love Gemma as a character, but then Obsidian, both the name and the character, is too emo pulp for me. I was very excited about To Catch A Rogue -- I've been rooting for Lark and Charlie from the first -- but the removal to Russia and the missing-princess Anastasia-style machinations were a lot. Frankly, Russia is a complete drag. It took me ages to hack through it, though some of it might have been Covid malaise.

Point being, after the ups and downs of the series, I really didn't know what to expect from Dukes Are Forever. The Duke of Malloryn and the woman who tricked him into marriage have been doing a slow burn for ages now, and I am 100% there for principled, tightly self-controlled dudes losing their shit and banging it out up against some furniture or other convenient surface. (My Lady Quicksilver is hands down my favorite of the London Steampunk books for this reason.) But then I'd been waiting on Charlie and Lark to get together for ages too, and I was not much excited about To Catch A Rogue. I'm happy to report that Dukes Are Forever completely nails Auvry and Adele's relationship, and then sticks the landing for the entire series.

Part of what made Dukes are Forever work so well was the way McMaster addressed the very real effects of trauma on our characters. Malloryn and Balfour (the series antagonist) have been locked in one of those revenge spirals since Malloryn's adolescence. It's all a pretty standard psychology wherein a guy loses his first love and vows never to love again, &c &c. I'm making fun a little, because don't really think grief works like this long term, but it's fine as a trope. That's just Malloryn's backstory though: the real trauma happened last book, when he was abducted and straight up tortured by a sadistic dhampir lady. Malloryn has stiffened his upper lip and tightened his cravat, but he's also having what look like panic attacks whenever his captor's name is mentioned, can't sleep, and otherwise looks to be suffering from post-traumatic stress.

His wife, Adele, is almost desperate for affection, given a cruel upbringing in a literally brutally misogynistic environment, but she's been well and truly frozen out in her relationship with Malloyrn. She maneuvered him into marriage to escape the violent ministrations of another lord-type -- one that would have surely resulted in her death -- and he's been punishing her for it ever since. When he embarks on a deeply misguided mission to seduce Adele (his logic is pure rationalization), it's almost another form of cruelty to her. She is so, so starved of any kind of human warmth.

Their navigation of the minefield of personal grievances and griefs they have between them is sensitively done, with a real-feeling sense of frustration and setback. Recovery from trauma is not about the reordering breakthrough, after which everything is fine, but of day-to-day work. It also isn't just on Adele to push Malloryn emotionally: he is surrounded by a compatriots who love and admire him, in their way. Gemma, especially, has very frank conversations with Malloryn, and I was just tickled by the strength of their relationship, and the fact that no one got shitty and jealous about it.

I also appreciated how the final confrontation with Balfour played out. Much of that last sequence was completely over the top pulp fireball stuff, and I thought it was such a fitting conclusion for them to literally blow up the symbol of the Echelon and the deposed Prince's rule.

An excellent end to an enjoyable series.

Overall a huge letdown. I wasn't feeling it between Adele and Malloryn. It was all about the insta-lust when they clearly did not trust each other. I never felt like they truly connected on an emotional level. Neither of them had much depth. It was definitely a what you see is what you get situation. I figured after getting to know them in the other books that I'd have a better understanding of what makes them tick after finally getting a book from their perspectives, but I didn't. Malloryn's constant denial of his feelings for his wife ended up being his weakness. His pigheaded avoidance of his feelings dragged on and on. I was so bored with it. It seemed like Malloryn was not himself with Adele. The point of him being the way he was with her was meant to make him seem like he cared and was opening up, but I thought he seemed weak. I didn't like Adele. There were some traumatic things that happened to her in the past and during the book, and neither had a big emotional impact on her. She didn't strike me as the type who wanted to be involved in a spy ring either.

The overarching plot with Balfour was disappointing. Despite Adele's help and all of Malloryn's spies, Balfour always had the one up on them. Clearly Balfour was the better planner and spy. Once the action started toward the end it all wrapped up too quickly. He and his cronies were too easy to physically take down considering it's taken 5 books to get to this point because he's supposedly so hard to kill.

Although I struggled through this book, it's probably just my interpretation of it. I've been very stressed out this week with all of the election drama. It's been hard for me to concentrate and I'm miserable. I'm sure that affected how I viewed the book. I liked the series enough that I would be willing to read it again sometime.

This was an exceptional conclusion to a most excellent series!

This is the book that fans of Ms. McMaster have been waiting for since we first met the Duke of Malloryn in the London Steampunk books. He has always been cold, distant, and calculating. Some would even go so far as to say heartless. We did see a bit of his facade crumble in the last book when his Company of Rouges braved the ruthless Russian court to save him. In this book we truly see Malloryn as he really is, failings and all.

Adele is the perfect foil to her cold as ice husband. They have been having skirmishes since the day they were engaged. She tricked the Duke of Malloryn into marriage. A man who is more used to pulling the strings of others. He is intrigued by her and infuriated by her in equal measure. Adele has discovered that she wants more than her current loveless marriage, but isn't sure how to get what it is she truly wants.

I adored this book! There is an epic showdown and conclusion between the forces of evil, Balfour's crew, and the Duke with his Rouges. I adore the world that Ms. McMaster has created and played in for so many books now. The romance between Malloryn and Adele is very well done and very much draws you in. There is a satisfying sense of conclusion to this book that also leaves me sad to leave the world and characters behind. I can only hope that the muse will lead Ms. McMaster towards another excellent spin off series.

The Duke of Malloryn hasn't let himself love for 17 years, since his beloved Catherine was murdered by Lord Balfour. He never intended to marry, except he was caught in what appeared to be an intimate embrace with Adele Hamilton. Malloryn thought she had manufactured it to manipulate him, but every so often he glimpses something in Adele that makes him less sure. Is she a spy for Balfour? Is she an innocent young woman caught between wanting freedom and protecting someone else she loves? Malloryn won't give an inch....until he gets a photograph of Adele kissing another man and an unfamiliar jealousy takes hold. When Malloryn and Adele go to war, it's about seduction and who will bend first, but neither can afford to be distracted by love as Balfour gets closer and closer to his revenge on Malloryn and the Queen.

This was an excellent conclusion to the Blue Blood Conspiracy series (one novella left to go)! I loved how well this tied the plot together for the series and how we get additional characters from the London Steampunk series making appearances. The give and take in Adele and Malloryn's relationship supports the plot perfectly. McMaster leans all the way into the found family tropes with the Rogues. As readers we've always known they'd do anything for each other and are stronger together, but it takes until book 5 to convince Malloryn of that.
