Imaginative romp through steampunk London

Katherine McIntyre is a definite favorite, and this book doesn't disappoint. Strong-
willed Theo meets her match in Silas and the chemistry between them leaps off the page. With Mcintyre's signature banter, readers will love every step of Theo and Silas' enemies-to-lovers romance.

Theodosia “Theo” Whitfield’s sister Ellie had not come home the night before. So as much as this visit made any other obnoxious, vile thing preferable, she had no choice. She needed Silas Kylock’s help to find her, and she entered his shop. The judgmental assistant looked her up and down and decided she would not let Theo speak to Silas. As a technomancer, one who could manipulate mechanics with magic, Theo started to gather her magic and threatened to break one of the machines for sale on the c ...more

The story pulled me in and I read until I couldn't stay awake, then finished it the next day as soon as I could. This is the first book I've read by Ms. McIntyre and it won't be the last. Theo is a strong heroine, intelligent and more than a little snarky. Silas seems to be an arrogant jerk at the beginning - as the story pro

As always, this Author reeled me in with vivid imagery, snarky banter, strong female lead, and an endearing, yet antagonistic male!! Pulled into a world laced with magic, danger, and hope for better days, I was riveted by the relationship between Theo and Silas thrown together unexpectedly to solve a mystery and save Theo's sister, whom has gotten herself in deep. Once they combusted, it was fire, and the slow burn nearly had me on the edge of my seat waiting, wishing, and cheering when it happe ...more

Our heroine's sister has gone missing and she is forced to enlist the help of a man she despises.

This is a solid steampunk story with plenty of action, a bit of mystery, and a bit of romance. The setting is very well done with detailed descriptions that paint the scene in vivid colors (and smells! Yuck!). The characters are equally well developed with strong backstories and realistic emotions that make you feel like you've know them for years. Put it together with a fast paced adventure and you

This novel has all the elements to be an enjoyable steampunk adventure/romance. Handsome hero - check. Feisty heroine - check. Male to female conflict - check. Steam and sparks between hero and heroine - check. Believable background - check. Heart-thumping suspense - check. Good story writing - check. Why do I keep thinking that something is missing? The story and characters are good but for some reason, this novel is not holding my attention the way I expected it would.

Another amazing steampunk story by Katherine, and while not in her normal Take to the Skies world there is a ton to love here. I loved her take on technomancers in a steampunk setting, and as usual with this author her knack for characters and dialogue truly shine here again.

This introduction to the Whitfield Files series is absolutely unputdownable. Steampunk is new to me, so I wasn't sure about this one going in, but I've enjoyed this author's work before so I dug in. The story is wonderfully written as expected, and its full of magic and suspense. We also get an enemies to lovers romance in the midst of all the excitement. The setting is described in a way that pulled me in and allowed me to see each scene without getting bogged down in minute details, and the ch ...more

“Theo heaved a sigh, not bothering to hide her irritation. “You get the satisfaction of being a decent man for once.”

Silas snorted. “That’s not a barter in the slightest. Offer me something worthwhile.”
“Are you sure you haven’t changed your mind?” Theo called as she reached the door. “This all would be a lot easier if you’d just hand me the parts, and I could get down to business. You know we’re not heading out for a picnic at the gardens. Don’t want to get those lilywhite hands dirty.” 1 likes
