For Amanda Grey, stopping the all-encompassing Apocalypse fated to plunge our entire existence into never-ending darkness . . . just kind of sucked. Sure, she had managed to capture every demon set loose on New York City. And yes, she ended up thwarting an evil angel’s plans to destroy humanity. But she also lost her sister, her apartment, and—oh yeah—Amanda Grey totally d ...more

Hell hath no fury like Amanda Grey.

In the second instalment of Shades of Hell by Bronx-native Alcy Leyva, Amanda Grey is back and better than ever. Well, sort of. She’s dead now, having died in the apocalypse that she accidentally started, and trapped in Hell. Much to her simmering, rage-filled disappointment disgust, Grey discovers that none of the promises made to her by the angel-ish beings Ada and Bill were honoured, no one knows w

This book was interesting. An epic journey through the circles of Hell. Lots of fighting, some of it can be graphic but then again it is Hell. The main character is strong but has others to help her. It got a little too intense for me at times.

Taking place right where the first one left off, this story is filled with familiar characters and is much easier to follow. The setting of the nine circles of hell was filled with horrors and humor, with bits like the "trolls" that made me actually laugh out loud. Extremely readable for those of us who enjoy twisted humor and Amanda's snarky attitude.
-“First of all, stop calling him Mark,” I snapped. “He’s not Mark. He’s the un-Markiest person I’ve ever met. Second, you’re right. These mason j

I enjoyed this book. It is the second in this series can be read alone but is better if you read the first one to know more of what is going on and who the charaters are. In this one Amanda Grey finds herself in Hell and to her disgust Gaffrey Palls her antaganist in the first book is there with her. When she finds out the Angels didn't honor their promises to her on the safety of her sister she sets out to rescue her sister from Hell. this is a fast moving book with plenty of action and adventu ...more

At the end of the first book I felt that explanations needed to be forthcoming, I'm still waiting.

This is a quick read and very imaginative, but when the author writes himself into a corner the action just jumps somewhere else. "How did that happen?", the characters wonder. No one knows, let's move on. Now if that doesn't bother you, the book is fun. If you would like a reason for actions or situations, look for something else.

Spoiler alert (for what it's worth): No dragons make an appearance i

Chaos girls first realization in second book, Mandy is dead and in hell and then needs to go on quests
"Memories: This last is in no way sexual, by the way. The schmuck got too close and I chucked a dinner candle at him, end of story. Sure, I didn’t know his dense cologne—an aroma which smelled a lot like steroid-induced testosterone and non-consent—mixed with his billowing and exquisitely groomed chest hair would make him go up like a douchebag-o-lanter
