Beholding and Becoming is filled with some of my favorite things: bees, blackberries, thistles and peonies, and love for our God who made them all in delightful detail. Ruth paints the page with words and watercolors illustrating in living color how touchable worship can be in everyday life.

When you read this book, you’ll remember our world is a cathedral. As soon as I reached the last praising page, I began again, this time more slowly in awe of my ordinary and wonderful life. and your's, too.

This is a beautiful, multi-layered book. It's primary purpose is to encourage the reader to worship the Lord. The text is the kind of text to savor--it can be read and re-read for the truths in it to nourish the heart. The artwork is beautiful--there is a glossary at the beginning of the book that explains the meaning behind the images the author/artist chose. What a joy it is--I will be reading this again to study the art and to annotate the text.

This book would make a wonderful gift to a spec

What does it mean to practice “every day worship?” It doesn’t take long inside the pages of this stunning book to realize that Ruth is telling the beautiful story of sanctification—our becoming like God—showing the reader what a joy it is to behold Christ in what we may perceive as the mundane—the million tiny moments that make up most of our lives.

The form of the book complements its purpose. Over 16 chapters, Ruth explores different areas of beholding God—from creation to the kitchen table—an

ARC - this book is exactly the message our world needs right now. Beholding and Becoming are two themes interwoven amongst Ruth’s art. The central idea is that what we behold, worship at our core, is what we become. Ruth’s insightful and truth-filled words convict and led me to repentance but also realigned my worship back to God.

Her art is beautiful. She ties in hymns and quotes into the book that strengthen her message and deepened my worship. This is a must read!!

I have been a fan of Ruth Chou Simons for years and have been anxiously awaiting this new release and it does not disappoint! I love how Ruth ties in each beautiful watercolor illustration to her words. The imagery is symbolic of messages within the written text. So, the two go hand in hand to really get Ruth’s message across. I knew this book was going to speak to me right away when it began with a commentary on our modern day fixation on social media and the digital world. I often feel disconn ...more

I am honored to share my review of Beholding and Becoming by Ruth Chou Simons. Beholding and Becoming is an exquisite book: nourishing, thought-provoking content that engages the heart; but also gorgeous artwork by Ruth Chou Simons that draws readers in as they ponder this book's message.
Beholding and Becoming guides readers to carefully examine their own hearts, looking deeply at their own hearts and examine their actions in light of the faith they profess. I found my own heart challenged as I

I’ll start by saying what may already be obvious, this book, Beholding and Becoming: The Art of Everyday Worship by Ruth Chou Simons, is *beautiful*. The artwork throughout is entirely comprised of watercolors by Ruth. I have been familiar with and loved her work so much over the years, and even so, the beauty in this book exceeded my expectations. One of my favorite things is the glossary where she gives the meanings of the recurring things she painted and invites you to sit awhile to experienc ...more

This book is beautifully done and life changing if you allow it to be. The book is filled with beautiful art and encouraging words to help us behold what we are becoming. Their are parts in the book where it may sting or hit is hard but it’s all in love. Ruth draws the reader in with stories, scripture and art it’s as if you are conversations with her. This book captured me I am still going back to read quotes. The book is a beautiful book that could be used as a coffee table book as well the on ...more

Beautiful, heart provoking AND theologically sound? YES. It is possible and it is done so well in this book! The raw honesty of an Elisabeth Elliot and the ability to draw in all your senses with the gift of art... Ruth Simons has done it in her new book. I have been personally touched, convicted and molded through all of her books and her art but this one surpasses then all. The Lord is using her in mighty ways and I am thankful to be a reader of her work. I will leave you with this quote from ...more

As I was reading Beholding and Becoming I felt like Ruth had looked into my heart and written this book just for me. I’m sure that I won’t be the only one who feels this way as they read her words and and lingers over her artwork.

This book is so full of encouragement to find and worship God in all areas of our lives. “When we believe the Giver of every ordinary moment in our every day is the faithful God who is trustworthy for each next step we take in our daily lives, we have reason to rejoice

I enjoyed Ruth’s first book, so I was excited she was writing a second one. But this book went beyond all my expectations! The gospel truths in this book are so relatable to every day life and struggles we all go through. Ruth shares truth about control, success, family, money, and purpose, among others. Ruth shows you how to “set your heart on what is truly worthy of worship” in your everyday circumstances. It’s amazing how much encouragement and truth she can share in such a concise way. I’ve been a fan of Ruth’s work for years, with the way her simple yet beautiful art work makes me draw in my breath and then release it peacefully. Even more, I love her heart for God’s truth, and the simple yet profound ways she reminds me of what cannot be improved upon, God’s words and His work in creation and redemption.

I got a little tingly when I first heard about this new book, “Beholding and Becoming”. I just knew this was meant for me in this season. I’m mothering a little one, often fe

I have so enjoyed the depth of thought that went into this book. Whenever I look at any of Ruth Chou Simons’ work, I know that she has put much thought and prayer into the process and completion of her work. This book is no exception. This book is about who God is and what those attributes imply about our worship of Him. It is meant to inspire worship. We behold his glory and we become worshipful. Due to this purpose, each chapter is split into two sections: Beholding and Becoming. Her thoughts ...more

"We all with unveiled face beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is in Spirit."
2 Corinthians 3:18

Art, painting, is like poetry in color.

These words ring true when describing the latest masterpiece by Ruth Chou Simons, of Gracelaced.

She described her own work as harkening back to William Morris and Art Nouveau. With repeating motifs, balanced designs, and harmonious colors, the painting

Wow! This is a beautiful book (for real, Simons's watercolors are amazing) with a beautiful message. We can worship daily, with our lives, but we have to make the room and space to abide with our creator. I have a feeling I'll be revisiting this book frequently.
Have you gotten distracted from your First Love? Are your days spent striving and chasing after "all the things" (or just surviving)? Then Ruth Chou Simon's latest book, "Becoming and Beholding: The Art of Everyday Worship" is for you! (it also makes a terrific gift for a friend, btw) If you read and enjoyed Ruth's first book, you're going to love this one! If you haven't, it will still meet you in the place you're at - but trust me, you'll want to run out and buy Gracelaced too!

Beholding and Becoming inspires us to look deeper into our lives, our days and see beyond the surface. It encourages us to focus on Jesus, behold Him, become more like Him, and to give contemplative thought to directing our attitudes and hearts in channels flowing in this direction.

The beautiful artwork along with the thoughtful words renews, revives, and refreshes. This book invites us to sit and savor and embrace stillness for our hearts and souls to engage in this work of beholding and becomi

“We are being transformed into His likeness by looking intently on who He is.”

As with all Ruth's writings, Beholding & Becoming is truth and light. The ecstatic beauty of her art is gracefully wrapped around the intrinsic beauty of the gospel in a way that brings a heavenly perspective to the driest of souls. The richness of colors and the delicate style of Ruth's paintings in Beholding & Becoming compliments her exposition of God's Word in a way that presses upon the heart, both refreshing and

I've been a fan of Ruth Chou Simons' work for years. Her books Gracelaced and Garden of Truth have helped me focus on the beauty of God's creation and meditate on his Word. I jumped at the chance to review Beholding and Becoming, because I know Ruth writes and paints with grace, loveliness and beauty.

I enjoyed reading this book as much as I enjoy my prayer walks in my rural area. Pausing to muse on God's glory through Ruth's artwork and lyrical writing breathed peace into my soul. The chapters

The art in this book is stunning to look at, especially when looking through the lens (or key) the author gives at the beginning. There’s so much depth in the paintings alone—to think about and let soak into your heart—that justify the purchase of this book because you could easily flip through it time and time again.
But the words... wow! Wisdom and truth-filled content soundly backed up with scripture. She’s vulnerable and relatable in her writing and that makes it incredibly impactful. I mean

If you have ever seen Ruth Chou Simon’s work hanging on a wall or held one of her books in your hands, you have an idea of the beauty and encouragement to expect from this latest release (and you won’t be disappointed).

Beholding and becoming is an invitation to shift your gaze to Christ in and through the everyday moments of your life. I love how Ruth Chou Simons takes us on a journey through the everyday moments and allows us to look to Christ in them by teaching us that being glad in all things gives glory to God and perpetuates our joy in Him. We are reminded that in the remaining and abiding in the presence of God we find vision for who He is. We begin to see the opportunities for praise in the midst of th ...more

“We look for dramatic ways to experience God, but His presence and transforming work in our lives happen minute by minute.”

As publications turn to digital copies, it feels rare to find a work that is aesthetically pleasing with text to illuminate the art. Ruth Chou Simon’s newest release, Beholding and Becoming, does just this. She has used the gifts given her to create a gorgeous piece to encourage our hearts through the everyday and the mundane. Biblical truth is accompanied by brilliant work

I’ve been excited about this book since I first heard that it would be released, and it surpasses my expectations! The masterpiece is filled with Ruth Chou Simons’ breathtaking, full-color art, including Art-Nouveau-inspired motifs, such as blackberries that represent the thorns and blood of Christ, and sweet peas that represent tenacity.

Each chapter includes a “beholding” and “becoming” focus, such as beholding God’s provision and presence in the mundane day-to-day, and learning to love what G

“We Become What We Behold”

Becoming and Beholding is an absolutely beautiful book, both in word and in art, that will encourage your heart, speak gentle but convicting truth right down deep in your soul, and turn your eyes again and again to your Savior, Jesus. Ruth shares from a place of vulnerability and gentleness, as one who knows the battles of the Christian walk and wants to share the insights she’s gained through experience. She draws you in to walk alongside her, as a friend who cares, bu

Ruth is one of the most talented writers I have been exposed to over the last several years. A dear friend was given Gracelaced and she shared it with our bible study group. We immediately fell in love with Ruth’s writings and her ability to remind us in a very powerful way of who God is and what He does for us.

Beholding and Becoming is another homrerun for me. Not only is she a talented writer, she is an amazing artist. Her original work is featured throughout the book and the images of nature

Ruth has an amazing gift of seeing God’s word and hand in our everyday lives. Beholding and Becoming is not only beautiful to look at—the artwork alone is uplifting and inspiring—but her words and scripture make my everyday life beautiful. Her Godly wisdom is found in every paragraph and in every brushstroke throughout the book. Every chapter of the book is easy to read, yet full of so much knowledge and wisdom. We become what we behold.

“To that end, we are ALL worshippers. "Human beings by their very nature are worshipers. Worship is not something we do; it defines who we are. You cannot divide human beings into those who worship and those who don't. Everybody worships; it's just a matter of what, or whom, we serve." (Paul David Tripp). Our jobs, relationship, reputations, and treasure- these are just a few things that compete for our worship. We were made for one worship and one satisfaction, but our taste buds are skewed until our appetites are formed in and for Him. The question isn't whether we will use our everyday moments to worship because we will- in the midst of ordinary places, people, sights, sounds, joys, and pains. How we direct our eyes, minds, hearts, and hands in the everyday will determine whom we ultimately worship, and what we ultimately become. We were made to behold Him and be transformed in Him. The art of everyday worship is the journey from canvas to masterpiece. We all have an invitation to be transformed, one everyday moment at a time.” 1 likes
