My new favourite audiobook. I absolutely loved this book. It’s cat-women/batman meets cozy mystery. Melody narrators this beautifully and I felt connected to the feminine world. Kat is a cat shifter. She would do anything to get rid of her collar but like most cats she’s very self involved. When a mystery man offer her the freedom she craves she must solve a case. She usually works as an assassin but as this new mystery unfolds she can see the advantages of asking questions first. The story is g ...more

I am a crazy cat lady with a passion for UF. It still wasn't enough for me to like this book. Yes, there's something that could have been. Unfortunately it never developed.
And again I am somewhat disappointed to say that to use a first person Pov you need to be a damn strong writer, and I am even sorrier to say this author isn't.

The NA feeling and fake jaunt was bad in my opinion. You are depicting a very dark world and in it quivering hormones aren't supposed to exist. Or at least they sound pr

Seriously? And this Skye MacKinnon is a bestselling USA today author? Again, seriously? I can only say based upon the plethora of average reads of late how overvalued and questionable this honour is since every author going appears to be making the same (lame) claim.

I was just so bored. I stopped at the 62% because I just no longer cared. Not about the characters or the answer to who killed the sweet shop owner. The writing; the world building tried to be grim but had little substance to ground

Meow is the newest book by Skye MacKinnon, and an absolute purr-tastic, meow-larious and claw-ver read.

Kat is a strong badass panther shifter, who’s an assassin and PI. Her team aka Pride, is made up of a team of outcast assassins and ragtag thieves, who work for Kat’s business M.E.O.W.

The banter between and Lily is hilarious and helps so show the depth of friendship early on in the story.

This urban fantasy reverse harem is filled with action, crime, secrets and of course cats, cats and more

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Skye has really created an interesting world in this introduction to a new assassin series. Kat is an assassin that wears a collar that forces her to follow the rules. At least until she is sent on a job where a mysterious man sets her free with the stipulation that she start her own business and take occasional jobs from him. Flash forward six months ans he doing somewhat well when a new case forces her

So many delicious supernaturals abound in this purrfectly exciting, sexy tale of cats, kitties, wolves, and humans, and Meow Investigations tackles many problems that exist in the human world, murder, poisoning children, slavery, making Kat, an assassin, change from working alone to gathering a team that will do whatever is necessary to stop The Pack and I can hardly wait to read more of their adventures.

I love the paranormal genre, I love shifters and I adore cats and this book here has everything included, so I had high expectations for it and certainly was not disappointed.

The concept of it was thought out well and the storyline was packing. It has a satisfying ending for the first part but also gives hints at what will come in the next books and it definitely sounds promising. It had some surprising plot twists in it and certainly does not back away from darker themes either so this is nothi

Skye MacKinnon’s Meow (Catnip Assassins #1) is purrfect. In this story cat shifter/assassin, Kat starts her own business. A client asks her to take on a murder investigation (verses an assassination) with the option to kill the culprit. This contemporary urban fantasy is suitable for adult readers.

I really enjoyed this story. It was unique and entertaining. Skye MacKinnon does a nice job creating the foundation for this series by explaining politics and history in this novel. The characters are

I loved this book

This is the first time I have read a book by this author and I am so glad I took a gamble and purchased Meow. I love the idea of cat and dog shifter assassins and the way the author portrays the heroine is masterful - it's easy to imagine a cat reacting in just such a way if magically given the ability to shift to human. I am now eagerly awaiting the next book in the series

2019 bk 388. A decent enough plot and an intriguing idea. It needed an editor who would have repeatedly said - more character development/background for everyone in the group, more details and descriptions. It says it is an alternate universe where the pc / internet havn't been developed, but there are phones and televisions. It read like a cross between victorian London and mid-century America. I didn't get the feeling that it was an alternate universe. I will probably look for the second - jus ...more

Great start to a series

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun read. The whole cold blooded killer thing did feel weird though, because I immediately liked the main character. Which just doesn’t seem to go together. She was pretty badass and funny and kind of adorable.
The mystery was well stepped out, I couldn’t figure it out before the characters did. I liked the relationships between them all, though it didn’t go too in depth with them. Something I’m looking forward to more of in the next bo

killing for money, human head in the fridge and a friend who enjoys playing with her victims before killing them. Are the characters in this story killers and psychopaths?

This takes the cake:

"She likes to play with her prey when she gets the chance. Sometimes, that involves taking random body parts home to later send them to her marks' families. That may sound evil, but actually, Lily is a really nice girl. She just has a bit of a violent streak."

Wait there's more.

What a fabulous start to a new series, and about cats!!! Unusual plot about an assassin shifter whose life turns upside down when she takes an unusual case. Enjoyed the Characters. Humour. Writing and Story.

Cats & RHs are 2 of my many favourite things.

I'm impressed that this RH hasnt compromised plot value like a lot of RHs tend towards.

I love pretty much all RH books plot or no plot dont get me wrong but when theres a book that makes me love the story without romance when for all intents and purposes its main draw is RH well sign me the fuck up.

Anyhoo im kicking myself for not reading this sooner cause i needed the humour and cutenes

This was just all around really bad.
I have a hard time to even motivate myself to address some of the major issues.

The book tries to be dark and gritty but instead only manages to sound like a self-insert fantasy of a 14-year-old edgelord.
The protagonists have the same issue same but additionally, they are somehow supposed to be the good guys and display morals while leading a professional hitmen company? It's all incredibly contrived and unbelievable.
Furthermore, they all constantly pat each o

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for Meow on Audiobook!

I listened to Meow on audiobook over the last week and I enjoyed this first book in the series! With all the craziness of the pandemic, I haven't been able to listen as much (no commute = no listening haha) but by making time to listen to this story after a long day working from home, I could escape for a little bit.

Story: 4.5/5 Stars

I received this audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion.

I enjoyed the narrator through most of this story. She did a great job adding inflection, which I loved. I did listen to it at 1.3x as regular speed upset me for some reason. Not sure how that works, but I found my sweet spot and it no longer bothered me. There were a few instances where the narrator did something that irked me, but, honestly, I couldn't explain why. It wasn't enough to tu

The good thing: it's a short read(though I would have preferred it longer for more details), it's different, in a sense that she is a hired assassin who is also a jaguar shifter who can talk to stray cats. As for humor, some maybe but not much to remember. Everything comes so easy, like how she became a collared assassin to a free one.. to solving the mystery. There is a possibility of romance maybe in the sequels. There are other characters but I couldn't really get into them cause there's just ...more

Cat, a panther shapeshifter who was trained as an assassin as a child before she escaped the Pack that enslaved her, now runs her own criminal agency that hires out to kill or steal targets. And, apparently, act as private detectives, when there's enough money being offered. Definitely a setup with room for potential ,branching out from the many urban fantasy/paranormal romances where a someone is investigating crimes in a world filled with shapeshifters and magic.

I had no idea what to expect going into this story, but I loved what I got! Found family! Intrigue! A hella fierce protagonist! CATS! Shifters!

I ended up liking this story so so so much. As primarily a romance reader, I was worried because I knew going in that the romantic relationships would be drawn out over the course of many novels, and while I wouldn't categorize this story as a romance, the basic elements were there and I'm excited to get to know more about Kat's fellows.

Reminiscent of Thomas K. Carpenter's Hundred Halls and The Reluctant Assassin this series is dark mysterious and intense. The subject matter is a bit disturbing and a better read for a mature young adult. Gory but what assassin isn't but they she claims to be swift and neat. Young shifter children are being poisoned with candy that either kills them or keeps them from being able to shift and steels away this power. Meow: Catnip Assassin’s (book 1) by Skye MacKinnon

What’s a very fun little book. It read very fast and very well. The characters were well-developed and the storyline caught you from the beginning and kept you buried in the book.
Enjoyed this book and Bensley five stars couldn’t wait for the Nextbook so I bought the stuff out the box set. You have an assassin trained and cold-hearted, but she’s offered a way out. Somebody removes her collar, we find out she’s a black jaguar shifter. Her benefacto

For six months she has been free and running her own assassin business. But then she is hired for a very different job. To investigate and find out who murdered a sweet shop owner. This leads ...more
