Assassin. Private Investigator. Cat shifter.
Kat is used to killing people, but for a blank cheque, she's willing to do the opposite and help solve a murder - even though it sounds boring as hell. That is, until she finds some body parts in her fridge, makes friends with the neighbourhood cats and realises there may be an assassin better than her…

And again I am somewhat disappointed to say that to use a first person Pov you need to be a damn strong writer, and I am even sorrier to say this author isn't.
The NA feeling and fake jaunt was bad in my opinion. You are depicting a very dark world and in it quivering hormones aren't supposed to exist. Or at least they sound pr ...more
I was just so bored. I stopped at the 62% because I just no longer cared. Not about the characters or the answer to who killed the sweet shop owner. The writing; the world building tried to be grim but had little substance to ground ...more
Kat is a strong badass panther shifter, who’s an assassin and PI. Her team aka Pride, is made up of a team of outcast assassins and ragtag thieves, who work for Kat’s business M.E.O.W.
The banter between and Lily is hilarious and helps so show the depth of friendship early on in the story.

Skye has really created an interesting world in this introduction to a new assassin series. Kat is an assassin that wears a collar that forces her to follow the rules. At least until she is sent on a job where a mysterious man sets her free with the stipulation that she start her own business and take occasional jobs from him. Flash forward six months ans he doing somewhat well when a new case forces her ...more
The concept of it was thought out well and the storyline was packing. It has a satisfying ending for the first part but also gives hints at what will come in the next books and it definitely sounds promising. It had some surprising plot twists in it and certainly does not back away from darker themes either so this is nothi ...more
I really enjoyed this story. It was unique and entertaining. Skye MacKinnon does a nice job creating the foundation for this series by explaining politics and history in this novel. The characters are ...more
This is the first time I have read a book by this author and I am so glad I took a gamble and purchased Meow. I love the idea of cat and dog shifter assassins and the way the author portrays the heroine is masterful - it's easy to imagine a cat reacting in just such a way if magically given the ability to shift to human. I am now eagerly awaiting the next book in the series
I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun read. The whole cold blooded killer thing did feel weird though, because I immediately liked the main character. Which just doesn’t seem to go together. She was pretty badass and funny and kind of adorable.
The mystery was well stepped out, I couldn’t figure it out before the characters did. I liked the relationships between them all, though it didn’t go too in depth with them. Something I’m looking forward to more of in the next bo ...more
This takes the cake:
"She likes to play with her prey when she gets the chance. Sometimes, that involves taking random body parts home to later send them to her marks' families. That may sound evil, but actually, Lily is a really nice girl. She just has a bit of a violent streak."
Wait there's more.

She was raised by a company called "the Gang" who teaches about assassinations, poisons, and death in general to be done for money. Kat has a benefactor who have her a house, some money and some contracts to get on her feet. She now has her own operatives.
They find that "the Gang" and the higher it's called "Fangs" are trying to kill shifter children including her benefactor 's granddaughter.
Read and enjoy!
Enjoyed the Characters. Humour. Writing and Story.
Cats & RHs are 2 of my many favourite things.
I'm impressed that this RH hasnt compromised plot value like a lot of RHs tend towards.
I love pretty much all RH books plot or no plot dont get me wrong but when theres a book that makes me love the story without romance when for all intents and purposes its main draw is RH well sign me the fuck up.
Anyhoo im kicking myself for not reading this sooner cause i needed the humour and cutenes ...more
I have a hard time to even motivate myself to address some of the major issues.
The book tries to be dark and gritty but instead only manages to sound like a self-insert fantasy of a 14-year-old edgelord.
The protagonists have the same issue same but additionally, they are somehow supposed to be the good guys and display morals while leading a professional hitmen company? It's all incredibly contrived and unbelievable.
Furthermore, they all constantly pat each o ...more
I listened to Meow on audiobook over the last week and I enjoyed this first book in the series! With all the craziness of the pandemic, I haven't been able to listen as much (no commute = no listening haha) but by making time to listen to this story after a long day working from home, I could escape for a little bit.
Story: 4.5/5 Stars

I enjoyed the narrator through most of this story. She did a great job adding inflection, which I loved. I did listen to it at 1.3x as regular speed upset me for some reason. Not sure how that works, but I found my sweet spot and it no longer bothered me. There were a few instances where the narrator did something that irked me, but, honestly, I couldn't explain why. It wasn't enough to tu ...more

I ended up liking this story so so so much. As primarily a romance reader, I was worried because I knew going in that the romantic relationships would be drawn out over the course of many novels, and while I wouldn't categorize this story as a romance, the basic elements were there and I'm excited to get to know more about Kat's fellows.

What’s a very fun little book. It read very fast and very well. The characters were well-developed and the storyline caught you from the beginning and kept you buried in the book.
Enjoyed this book and Bensley five stars couldn’t wait for the Nextbook so I bought the stuff out the box set. You have an assassin trained and cold-hearted, but she’s offered a way out. Somebody removes her collar, we find out she’s a black jaguar shifter. Her benefacto ...more
