Elevation: Complete Trilogy

Rate this book
Three brothers run a ski resort in Colorado that has been in their family for several generations. The young men are considered Colorado royalty. Unfortunately this has made the dating scene just a little bit of a pain in the backside. Every girl wants something, but every girl is trying to pretend that she doesn’t. Of course the locals are used to a little bit of weird from the Chartrand boys. Actually the whole town is a little on the odd side, but then aren’t most small towns like that? Except Elevation isn’t just strange. Most of the locals are actually shifters of some kind.

Part One: Black Run
Being pretty isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I’m not stupid. Looks fade and so does the money they provide. That’s why I’m here in Elevation, Colorado. My friends and I are going to find rich men who are more worried about skiing than gold diggers. At least, that was the plan. Then all three of us get tangled up with the Chartrand brothers and things just sort of spin out of control. Now I’m head over heels for Remy Chartrand and I can’t seem to figure out where my “keeping the upper hand” intentions flew off to. Remy is not only hot enough to keep me warm on a cold winter night. There’s something about him that’s different and I just can’t put my finger on what it is.

Part Two: Drag Lift
My friends are here in Elevation to find a man. I’m just here for the ride. Portia has already hooked up with Remy and Belle has her sights set on Lucien. It’s a good thing that’s not really what I’m after because the other Chartrand brother doesn’t seem all that interested in a woman. I don’t mind. It’s nice to be able to hang out with Ben Chartrand just because he’s fun to be with. Of course, that’s before all of the drama, the snowstorm, that little thing about getting trapped at the top of the mountain, and then the wild ride down. Ben and I sure know how to have a good time. I just can’t stop thinking that the man has a few secrets that are better left alone.

Part Three: Freestyle
I came to Elevation because I need a rich husband, preferably one that is a bit country and backwards and won’t realize what my intentions are until it’s too late. By this time, I feel like the entire male population owes me one. No. More than one. I’m going to find a guy. Get a ring. Get him to change the will. Boom! After that the husband just really isn’t all that necessary to the equation. Except there’s something going on with Lucien Chartrand that doesn’t exactly fit the profile. First of all, I never intended to actually like him. As if that doesn’t complicate things enough, it doesn’t take long to realize that Lucien has bigger secrets than I do. And that’s really saying something.

4 stars... worth a read

The book is pretty good. I wouldn’t say it’s amazing. There are a couple of times that they use the wrong character’s name, but not too much. I hated Portia’s character for the majority of the book, even when it tells why she is the way she is. Not many “intimate” scenes, so if that’s what you’re looking for, you’re going to be disappointed. Overall, the characters are interesting, and they develop from somewhat unpleasant to pleasant through the books. The epilogue makes it worth it.

This was my first shifter read and I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the author’s picturesque description of the setting. I am from Dallas and would have been just as unprepared as Belle, Portia, and Ally for the extreme conditions. Lucien, Remy, and Ben were well-written characters and the brotherly, not to mention triplet bond, was heartwarming. There were some editing issues that seemed to improve especially by the third book. Several times the wrong name was used. One thing that really annoyed me was the author’s use of both first and last names well after a character had been introduced. It sounded strange. By the third book that seemed to have stopped. A pet peeve of mine is when people say “two twins.” So “three triplets” is just as bad. I have also noticed an overwhelming tendency in self-published books to load up on adjectives and other words in sentence after sentence. I can only assume this is to achieve a minimum word count. Please, less is more, quite often. If you need the text to be longer, add another development. I know that isn’t always easy but your readers will thank you. Belle was definitely an enigma until well into the second book. You knew she had more baggage than had been revealed and her big secret was pretty obvious but I did enjoy really getting to know her in the third book. Ally and Ben were terrific in book two. I really liked Remy, and Portia’s background was interesting but she seemed to fade off after book one. More so than Ally. I thought the author did a good job keeping Lucien a bit of a mystery until book three when we really get to see what he is made of. Oliver, the triplet’s dad, and Rufus, the grandfather, were fun and lovable secondary characters as were many others who lived and worked around the resort. All in all I would have to say I would love to be a part of the Elevation family.

The story line was OK. The author knows how to write however between editing issues and consistency issues that disturbed the flow of the story. Example: first the girl takes off her pantyhose then in the next page she has one stocking on and one off. Make up your mind. There were multiple times that sentences were not complete and you had to figure out what the author meant. I don’t like being pulled out of a story because of stuff like that. My biggest issue were the characters. The women were not very likable. They were plain and simple users. Ally was the most likeable character why she put up with being taken advantage of by the other two is a mystery. Ally was the only one of the 3 that had a disposable income (thanks to her parents) to subsidize their trips and life style. Portia had some redeemable qualities. It was Belle that I could not stand. As far as I was concerned she had no redeemable qualities at all. I didn’t understand why the other two kept defending her saying she was loyal when all she did was use them and they could not provide anything as an example of that loyalty. Belle was out for herself and her self only.
Spoiler***** This is when I really began to hate Belle when she viciously attacked her friend and the next day pretend like it didn’t happen. She could have killed her. I tried to finish her story but what she tried to do to Lucian, I said enough… she is horrible and I could care less what happens to her. But I hope it involves a long prison sentence! I stopped at about the 78% mark.
The men were interesting though Lucian was an idiot. But that is my personal take. There will be people that will enjoy these stories but because of the reprehensible Belle took away from my enjoyment.
