Ang daming secrets! Ano ba yan, bakit wala pang revelation!?

Anyway, but this volume has its revelations about Merlin too. Lakas din ni ate gurl, pero parang si Diane ang favorite sin girl ko. But still, I don't hate Merlin. It just takes a while to warm up to her. But she's not despicable, as the first few volumes seemingly described her.

She's just smart. And a nerd. And know-it-all.

This volume is good; I didn't want to stop reading it. Again, a lot happens in a short amount of time. I think this volume encompasses one evening, if that. It goes from Chapter 241 to Chapter 249.


The volume starts with Gloxinia and Drole facing off against Chandler, the Pacifier Demon. King and tiny Diane are determined to stand and fight with their (former) kings. This is a big moment for these four characters. Gloxinia tells King that, "Despite only just growing your wings, you can draw forth the power of the Spirit Spear as well as I can. Once your wings are fully grown, you'll probably be the strongest Fairy King in history" (10). A high compliment, coming from the powerful First Fairy King! And Drole tells Diane, "You must lead the Giant clan... If the Giants are to have a prosperous future, we need someone like you!" (11). The two kings then sacrifice themselves in a quick and brutal match with Chandler, sending Diane and King back to Hawk Mama first so they can escape with the rest of the Sins. They seem like they really are dead, because of their beautiful monologue of thoughts as they perish.

Chandler quickly catches up with the Sins, who are still weak from their recent battles. Gowther is wiped out the whole volume from his attempt to defy "Absolute Order."

Meliodas wakes up and, with Elizabeth, leaves with Chandler. He declares that he intends to become the Demon Lord in order to free himself and Elizabeth from their curse, and he dissolves the Seven Deadly Sins. Ugh! He's being weird. Oh, and apparently Hawk's eye is connected to Purgatory, through which the Demon Lord has been keeping an eye on his son.

We learn that Merlin's father was the leader of a city of wisdom and learning, and that he once went into Purgatory for one minute and came back a completely ruined man. Besides Meliodas, he is the only person known to have come back from Purgatory alive. Even knowing this, Ban volunteers to go to Purgatory to get Meliodas' emotions back from the Demon Lord, because his body (although not his soul) is immortal. He leaves King in charge of taking care of Elaine, who is weak and bedridden at the Boar Hat (I don't remember why).

Chapter 244 follows Dreyfus, Hendrickson, and Margaret as they search for Gilthunder, to save him from his captivity with Vivian. Margaret hears whispers and is led to a large Druid altar, where she gives up her body to be a vessel for one of the four archangels, Ludoshel, in return for the finding and safe rescue of her beloved Gil. I absolutely love the panel on page 81 where Ludoshel declares her identity as a goddess and archangel. It's gorgeous.

Also, is there a little gay inference at the beginning of this chapter? Dreyfus scolds a couple they rescue for going "deep in the mountains looking for a trysting place?!" (67), and the man responds, "Well, you came here for one too, didn't you?" (67). Dreyfus splutters, "With who?!" (67) but it's funny because we all know he and Hendy are... close pals. *wink*

Chapter 245 randomly shows us Guila, Jericho, and Howzer for the first time in a while. They are rescued from a demon by another (unnamed) archangel, who bids them, "Become a member of my Stigma" (91). I guess the goddesses are rising!

Vivian is raving, telling Gil that Leones and Margaret are finished, then suggesting that they have a baby together. She is wild. Then Margaret/Ludoshel spears her through the neck, out of nowhere. Ludoshel declares that her end of the bargain is complete, and now she needs Margaret to hold up her end. Margaret does not even get a proper reunion with Gil. Dreyfus yells to, "Hurry it up, Hendy!" (101), but we never find out what he means, because Ludoshel declares that the 3 sons of the Demon Lord are gathering and the story flashes to them.

Estarossa wakes finally, after having an unsettling dream of Elizabeth, to find himself cared for by Peronia (his mentor? Unclear).

Meliodas, Zeldris, and Estarossa fight over who will be heir (Zeldris really wants it. Estarossa doesn't care but wants to be included in the fighting, which is hilarious. He also wants Elizabeth, for some reason). Meliodas easily subdues them both and convinces them to help him gather the other Commandments. Zeldris does not want to comply at first, but Meliodas whispers something to him and he reluctantly agrees to help. As he and Estarossa head out, however, he says he will not easily give up the Commandments he collects.

Peronia whispers something to Cusack (Zeldris' wacky mentor) and he also heads out on some business of his own.

Apparently the Commandments, which are 10 equally divided pieces of half the Demon Lord's power, can be separated from the bodies of their holders, and Meliodas plans to collect all 10 and use them to challenge the Demon Lord on equal footing. They already have Gowther, Gloxinia, Drole, and Grey Road. Zeldris had the former 3 and Meliodas stole the latter from Merlin while she was discombobulated at the beginning of the volume.

Elizabeth and Meliodas have a beautiful conversation about their love. Meliodas says he doesn't feel like Elizabeth actually loves him, because she is cursed to fall in love with him and has no choice in the matter. He can't believe that every time she comes back, she falls in love with him and only him. He's so sweet and vulnerable here. She fervently denies this. She says it won't be worth it to break the curse if she wakes up and never remembers or knows Meliodas. If he becomes the Demon Lord, he would be too dark and powerful to stay in Britannia with her.

Meliodas is still wacko from his loss of emotions. He says, "I've always loved you so much I could barely stand it. Every time I touched you, I couldn't keep my heart from racing" (157), which is adorable, but then he finishes it off with, "But now I feel nothing. So get this through your head, Elizabeth. All I have left... is keeping the promise I made to you" (158). Ouch.

She slaps him, then uses her goddess power to subdue him while she runs away, back to the Sins, to try to stop him from becoming the Demon Lord.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch - Chapter 249. Merlin and Zeldris face off. She has Melascula, he wants the Commandment. Some of Merlin's back story is revealed. She is a prodigy child from Bérialin, the capital of the sages, blessed by both the Demon Lord and Supreme Deity.

"The Demon Lord granted her all knowledge pertaining to the Demon World's secret ways, and protection against brainwashing by the Goddesses" (171).

"The Supreme Deity granted her divine protection that nullified the effects of all dark spells and Commandments" (171).

Merlin gets Zeldris to release everyone affected by the Commandment of Piety, but before giving him Melascula, she buys time until something big and bright envelopes him from the other direction - Ludoshel's magic.

Bonus story! Another goddess, Elizabeth's "friend" Divine Lance Corporal Jeramet, a Goddess of The Guiding White Hand, is in a troll's body, which is funny. The two Druids that trained the Sins & co. a while ago are there, but hidden from her, and Meliodas shows up to talk with Jeramet too.

This is a loooong plot summary. Sorry, future me! But I'll probably thank myself for this when I am about to read vol. 31, over a month from now, and I don't remember anything from vol. 30.

WHY ARE WE ONLY NOW GETTING BACKSTORY ON MERLIN?! WE ARE ON VOLUME 30 OF THIS SERIES AND WE ONLY NOW HAVE AN IDEA AS TO WHY SHE HAS THE POWER SHE HAS AND WHAT HER SIN Might BE?! ARE YOU ACTUALLY KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW WITH THIS BULLSHIT?!

*Deep breath in, then exhale* Okay, okay, I'm good now, I'm good. This volume did have a lot of great moments, such as Ban agreeing to go into purgatory to find Meliodas's emotions and Merlin's meeting with Zeldris, but the fact that we're so late in the series and only know learning the backstory of one of the main characters who was introduced at least 18 volumes ago is unacceptable. Her backstory was great, no doubt about that, but it doesn't make up for it's timing. Overall, a good volume with solid moments despite my complaints.

A bit better than the previous one but I still have doubts about the story and where the series is going. Meliodas leaves the Sins and takes Elizabeth with him. Ban goes to Purgatory to save Meliodas. Merlin's identity is finally revealed, after 300 chapters! (We still don't know the true extent of her power and her goals). The New Holy War is about to begin with Ludociel leading the others. I am kind of curious to see what happens next but no high hopes for now.

Sono sconvolta dal fatto che Meliodas per salvare Elizabeth voglia diventare il re dei demoni, abbia sciolto i Seven Deadly Sins e grata che Ban vada in purgatorio per ritrovare la luce di Meliodas. Trovo che Elizabeth sia determinata a salvare Meliodas con i Seven Deadly Sins per questo l’ammiro. La tavola l’inizio del capitolo 246 è molto bella.

えええ？！どういうこと？！マーリンは魔人王と女神王女の娘だと？！じゃああ、何でその二人はメリオダスとエリザベスの愛を認めないの？！？って言うか、ひどい両親だね。自分の子供のメリオダスとエリザベスに哀れな運命を呪いかけてで理解したんだけど、他の子供もひどいあつかい。

でもエリザベス可哀そう、メリオダスが感情を失って彼女の思いが消えてひどい。義理で動いているのメリオダスはメリオダスじゃない。

This chapter leaves us with a lot of questions and I love it. It shows how little we know about Zeldris and Estarossa. It even shows how little we know about the goddess race.

Battles rage, alliances are shifted, and new contenders are added to the game, each with their own motives. The Seven Deadly Sins are stuck playing catch up as their strengths are pushed to the brink. Meliodas has a plan...but it's more of a last ditch effort that could possibly end up going horribly wrong.

Also, I knew there was something weird going on with Hawk! I never liked him as a character to be honest.

This series has 41 volumes.
