This book is a gem!! It was written in 1965, so I was initially concerned that the language or techniques would be outdated. The author has a surprisingly candid, sometimes witty and sometimes stern voice that made the complicated subject of fine sewing so much easier to digest. If you are looking to sew fitted clothing, this is the book for you. The book includes pages of instructions and drawings to guide you through altering patterns for a personal fit, as well as an entire section on different types of darts. I think it’s possible to apply some of these instructions to altering ready-made clothing, which I hope to try. For newbies, the author recommends starting with simpler projects like a shift dress and gives guidance for these projects as well.
