A Colour Atlas of Dermatology Part 1 of 4 Clinical dermatology is a subject in which entities tend to be well-marked and diagnosable with some precision by skilled inspection. This atlas has been prepared to help medical students, practitioners and those starting training in dermatology to become acquainted with the distinctive features of skin diseases. Most common disorders are illustrated and also several rare ones which are important with regard to associated systemic disease or to differential diagnosis. Teachers may find it userful to demonstrate features of lesions to students in their clinics. The emphasis throughout is on diagnosis and differential diagnosis and to facilitate this, cross-references are provided in the captions, in the introductions to sections, and in the index. Eighty-five per cent of the photographs in this atlas were taken by the first author using a Kodak Retina Reflex III camera and Kodachrome film. The light source was a single Metz '180' flash unit. The selection of photgraphs necessarily reflects experience of dermatological practice in London but we believe that the range of disorders included will be helpful to practitioners in whichever community they are working.
