Halo of Power is the third novel in the critically-acclaimed Mal Thomas Mystery series, and having read each of them in rapid succession I feel strongly that this is the best instalment yet. Each can be read as a standalone without any issues whatsoever, but to get the most out of the series I recommend reading them chronologically. The plot is, as always, interesting and excitement-filled; it'll also keep readers guessing until the final pages. It's exceptionally well-paced, and our protagonist ...more

Retirement from the nerve-racking advertising world somehow never results in Mal Thomas residing at his comfortable mountain retreat. Jeremy Holden's third novel is another brilliant account of the chaos that tends to follow Thomas. No matter where or with whom, Holden brings to life the characters and settings for his tales. Exciting from first page to the last! And this author is famous for his fast pace and twists & turns that you never see coming. I've read all of Holden's books and it's hard to choose but I think this one is my favorite. (Note: you don't have to read them in order. He does a good job of catching new readers up.) "While it seems like multiple plot lines such as these are hard to interweave, the story keeps the reader from misinterpreting where it’s going and provides enough twists and turns to keep the reader engaged. The story also reads as a stand-alone novel, despite it being the third in the series. It gives enough background of the first two novels to get a basic understanding and doesn’t give the reader a sense of missing out on any major plot points."

Another great book from JD Holden. The hero of his books, Mal Thomas makes his third appearance and once again it's a rollicking good time! Another thriller with Mal and all the characters that make these books so much fun to read. There's something for everyone here: intrigue, thrilling chases, witty banter between a diverse group of characters, romance and even history & religion. ...more
