And it's done!

While not all the novellas rated 5 stars, those that did were so stellar that I feel justified in giving the anthology a 5-star rating overall. With such a bevvy of fantastic historical romance authors, it was to be expected, but I am astounded at the results. If you like historical romance, are a fan of any of the authors', or want to discover new authors - or even give historical romance a try, you could not wish for a better collection.

A calendar worth of dukes.
An excellent collection of historical novellas featuring a duke for every season and for every month.
Favorite authors include Eileen Dreyer, Anna Harrington, Grace Burrows, Bronwen Evans, Elizabeth Essex and more.
Highly recommend.

This was an engaging read of 4*and 5* stories. I had read books by most of the authors but some were new to me and I will be looking out for their books in the future. There was just one ending I was disappointed in, the author left the reader to make up the ending. I like things finished!
Duke in Winter 4*
This was a light hearted story. I did like the main characters of Bea and Wulf, I liked that Bea was her own woman, in spite of her dissolute brother. Wulf was exactly the right person for

Duke In Winter by Alyssa Alexander
I really enjoyed this story about the Honest Highwayman and the Duke. It was fun and unique. It ended a little too abruptly for my tastes though. I would have enjoyed an epilogue and found out what happened to their relationship afterwards. It was an entertaining story otherwise.

Dukes by the Dozen was a delightful collection of thirteen stories all centered around Dukes finding love. I ended up enjoying some stories more than others, but I think overall the collection is a good one and I would recommend it.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.
I have never enjoyed something as much as I have this book. A great collection of historical romance novellas. I want a duke of my own. Dukes never wanting to marry, dukes hiring people to pretend to be their fiancée and dukes looking for true love.

Please Note - I did not have time to read all the novellas in this collection - so my review is an average rating of the stories I did read.

WOW - this collection is chocked full of novellas from some of the most wonderful HR authors writing today! I sadly did not have time to read all the stories (but I will go back and finish!), but for the money, even if you only get to read a couple - it will be money well spent!

This was an all-around well-written and high quality anthology with cute stories and charming characters.

Duke In Winter: This is a quick Robin Hood-esque tale in which our spinster heroine moonlights as a highwayman. Lady Beatrice steals from her brother's debauched and wealthy house guests to support the old and poor in her village. When she inadvertently tries to rob, and subsequently shoots, war hero and former spy Wulfric, the Duke of Highrow, sparks fly in more ways than one.

Plus you get a baker's dozen which makes it even better!! Prepare for adventure, humor, some mystery and suspense and of course heart melting romance that will just make you sigh...

January – Duke in Winter by Alyssa Alexander — When the Honourable Highwayman demanded that Wulf the Duke of Highrow stand and deliver, he didn’t know it was a woman nor that she would shoot him, then tend to his wound & steal his heart. A lovely short story, fast paced sizzling & I read in a sitting

Duke in Winter - Sweet story about a woman who mimics Robinhood and accidentally shoots her prey, who is childhood crush of hers. Trapped in a snowstorm overnight. ***

The Difference One Duke Makes - Childhood friends reunite unexpectedly after 10 years, in which the hero has been in the Navy and has lost an arm. The heroine, meanwhile, has been "ruined" by the hero's now-deceased brother. They were totally comfortable with each other and thus, no misunderstandings, which I liked. The nicknames

Dukes by the Dozen is a collection of 13 'Baker Dozen' total of book with almost 955 pages by 13 different authors. This is such a great collection of Novella by authors I just love. But if you haven't had a chance to read stories by one or any of the authors this is a great way to be introduced to them. In addition this box set is a great way to keep some 'books' on hand when you need a quick read while waiting for an appointment (I do this all the time!), a quick read before bed or to get your ...more

Can't get through the sample. There's no tension, no wittiness, writing is straightforward and bland. Ugh! Wrong author to pick for the first novel! NOT happy!

As reviewed at Roses Are Blue:

DUKES BY THE DOZEN is a collection of high quality novellas which makes for some fabulous reading. Each story can be read in roughly an hour or so, and is perfect for when you don’t have the time to sit down for several hours of reading. The heat level varied, though most stories were warm, and some were kisses only. I definitely recommend this diverse collection of ducal tales, and am sharing my thoughts on those which were my favorites.

Alyssa Alexander's Duke In Winter is a lovely Hallmarkesque story of a Lady Robin Hood. Lady Beatrice is a twenty seven year old spinster that masquerades as the Honest Highwayman . After a late night of debauchery she seems to meet her match in Wulf, the Duke of Highrow. This passion filled (without the graphics) story will keep you turning the page, and rooting for the two to fall in love at very least. It does not disappoint.

The Mistletoe Duke by Sabrina York

I’ve had a crazy busy first third of the year, so while I would have jumped at the opportunity to ‘early read’ all of these stories, I only had time to fit in one of the twelve novellas in this “duke for every month” anthology. I read The Mistletoe Duke from Sabrina York and forgotten just how I missed her storytelling and characters!

Meg was left penniless and homeless when put out of her family estate after her brother’s death. Fortunately, she’d always been

I've only read The Mistletoe Duke by Sabrina York from this collection, I'll have to add to this review after I've read the rest of the books.

Ms. York has once again provided readers with a well-written book and populated it with fun, lovable characters. Ms. York is especially good at writing little hellion girls into her stories, and in this book she gives us twins! Jonathan, the Duke of Devon, is the only parent of the twin hellions after their mother dies. Meg grew up with Jonathan and his

Love Letters From a Duke – Gina Conkle - We all know that letter writing has pretty much become obsolete so reading this adorable story and the letters written between Nathaniel and Charlotte takes me to a world full of wonderful feelings in writing. These two characters are compassionate, caring, loyal and loving. A fantastic story that frankly I wished would not end.

First off, I have to say for us fans of historical romance in general and/or any of these authors in particular, this is a must buy. Even at the $4.99 list price, this line up of authors had me pre-ordering as soon as I was able to. Now that I have had a taste, I can't wait to read the other stories in the collection.

I have had the pleasure to do an early read of Sabrina York's The Mistletoe Duke. Ms York's stories never disappoint me. This one touched on one of my favorite tropes - the

This was a great collection of well-written novellas. Thirteen stories, each featuring a duke! What could be better? Each of these 13 novellas was entertaining and filled with humor and romance. Must Love Duke by Heather Snow - Lady Emmaline Paulson rescues a pup from the Serpentine with the help of Maxwell Granville, heir to a dukedom. Neither of them knows who the other is, and they are able to get to know each other without knowing each one's status in society. Funny, sweet and romantic - ...more

This is a very entertaining and enjoyable collection of historical novellas. These fun stories offer up blends of drama, humor, excitement, charm, mystery, danger and of course, romance. My favorites of the bunch were: Dueling with the Duke by Eileen Dreyer: Which I thought was quite suspenseful and dramatic, Dear Duke by Anna Harrington: Which was funny, sweet and filled with charm and The Duke and the April Flowers by Grace Burrowes: This was a completely swoon worthy romance that was filled ...more

What's better than one duke? Thirteen of them! I love anthologies. Not only do you get to read favorite authors, but also to discover new ones. This anthology has a duke for every month plus a share. All of the stories are entertaining and easy reading. In my opinion the best tale is May McGoldrick`s "How to Ditch a Duke." It was not only very enjoyable to read, but also allowed a delightful visit with one of my very favorite characters, Millie. I also found a new to me author in Eileen Dreyer. ...more
