This is the most important book of the 120 I have read this year! Each night as I got into bed I made a diary of events that day, and used the biblical material to journal through thoughts connected to them.

Each day is split into a passage from Psalm or Proverbs, then another from the New Testament, and a larger chunk from the Old Testament. I accompanied it earlier in the day with the audio devotion by Nicky & Pippa Gumbel on the Bible app.

Being able to write alongside the bible passages made it interactive and kept me engaged with the material, and I used colours to underline different themes as I worked my way through. Even though it was a huge commitment to keep it going, I didn’t once regret pushing myself to do it each night.

It’s such a different experience than reading anything else because it is living and active, it reflects my true self back to me, and helps me make sense of life as I read it. I think I’ve slept better this year, and felt healthier mentally, as a result of including this in my final thoughts every day.
