The book of Matthew is such a fantastic image of the life of Jesus. It’s so cool to see Him as a person—and more than that, an adult not much older than I am.

Each of the four Gospel writers were inspired of the Holy Ghost [hence the Gospels are infallible, inerrant, inspired] with a different "theme." The theme of Matthew is to present Christ as the King of the Jews [Mark=the Servant, Luke= the Son of Man, and John = the Deity of Christ i.e., the Son of God]. This is why the genealogy is that of Jesus's step-father Joseph, showing Christ's right to the throne of David [the genealogy in Luke is Mary's], and why great emphasis is on the fulfillment of royal prophecies. Great book!
I have read this book over 50 times. Every time I read Matthew it seems like the first time.

“But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins,” …(Matthew 9:6)
Now, today, to us, that is what matters. That Christ can forgive our sins. That He is the Messiah, the King of the Jews. That He has authority over death, sickness, nature, and eternity. He is the King of all who gave himself as a sacrifice on the cross to pay the penalty of our sins and He is coming back to punish the wicked, reward the righteous, and rule this world.
In a world that questions and undermines every authority, this book reminds us that our loving Savior rules sovereignly, and graciously, mercifully offers every sinner forgiveness for every act of rebellion. Matthew shows us Christ’s authority over all and His love for all. If your world is falling apart, you will see Christ in control of everything. If you see the rulers of this world destroying everything, you will see Him building His church and kingdom despite their best efforts. If you feel helpless in the face of sin and death, you will see Him the redeemer of sinners and ruler of Eternity.
Do I really need to say that you should read it?

This is Matthew's account of my Lord and Savior, Jesus. From birth, his ministry, healing the sick and freeing all that were oppressed of the enemy, crucifixion/death, burial and resurrection.

Bless the name of Jesus!

I listened to Johnny Cash’s recording, which slowed the story down for me as opposed to reading. I noticed especially Jesus’s interactions with his religious and social opponents, as well as his challenging yet welcoming invitation into the kingdom of heaven life.

First book of the Gospels

Matthew begins with the genealogy of Jesus Christ. In the pages of Matthew we find the teachings of Christ. How we ought to pray. The Beattitudes. Many miracles and parables. And the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The book of Matthew is a wonderful book, full of Christ and the things that you and I would follow of we are to be followers of Jesus Christ.
