An excellent read!
Sarah and Emma put their first steps into the colorful world of actors and film industry. Both embark on this adventure without knowing what awaits them. This adventure will change their lives. It is not an easy path. As a single mom, Sarah has a lot on her plate. Helping Emma to pursue her dream, dealing with other parenting issues and on top of that, she has to deal with a former child actor. It is hard for her to balance her life. Her heart and mind are not on the same page, they send confusing messages. This is my first read by this author and I'll definitely read more of her books.

Okay, so that's an odd cover, right? I mean, very pretty people but it conveys absolutely nothing about the contents of the book. But it was on sale so I took a chance. And I'm glad I did.
So this is a celebrity wish-fulfillment fantasy with an interesting twist only possible in the subgenre. Sarah's daughter, Emma, lands a role on a miniseries with former child actor Katie. So Katie will play the mother in the miniseries and that throws the two of them together with Emma as their link. And if you give it that premise, it works out very well, I think. You have to take as given that Emma is really good at the work side that landed her the role. But she's also a believable eight year-old who can be fickle and demanding and loving and altogether inconvenient for a mother, fictional and otherwise.
I liked both main characters, quite a lot. They both need to find a middle ground and make choices if they wanted to be together. Katie has the more obvious as she hasn't ever been serious about a relationship before; has never been tempted or as engaged as she is with Sarah and her daughter. But Sarah has her own barriers to overcome, not least choosing to let go of some of her need for control and learning to rely on others, even when it's a risk for her cherished daughter. I loved more than a little that Hartfield gave Sarah enough confidence that she never really questioned her attraction to Katie even though she hadn't been into women before—it just didn't matter that it was a woman so much as that dating is another demand on her very limited "free" time.
I'm going to go with four stars because the setup/background is a little extreme and the detailing a bit sparse. Also, Sarah's pullback/dark moment was a bit overdone for where they were and included a communication shutdown (if a short one). I did like the communication afterwards and willingness to apologize and redress the wrong, but it shouldn't have been necessary.
A note about Steamy: There are a handful of explicit sex scenes, but Hartfield draws back really quickly putting this on the low end of my steam tolerance. That means that you get the beginning of intimacy, fully detailed, but then a pull back and summary/impact exposition. I don't think this was a wrong choice as it conveyed exactly what I needed about the characters and their relationship. But it may seem odd to others who are used to more fully-featured steam.

This was a very light and very pleasant reading. Very enjoyable.

Disappointing. The story was lacking and too simplistic. Add to that characters that seemed to think and live cliches. 2 stars

Fine and dandy as far as it went - routine love story with good hook on a T V show and how that progressed. Would have benefited from more background friends etc but no real complaints.

Most of the book is interesting, but I had a hard time getting over/believing in the instant love for the 2 main characters Katie & Sarah. Unfortunately that may have tainted my review and rating, free on KU.

Interesting plot. Interesting-enough characters. But no chemistry & rushed romance.
A straight single mother's kid randomly decides an open acting audition for kids was perfect as she "always wanted to act.". With no idea of what might happen if kid did (or even if didn't) get the part, mother brings kid to audition.
Kid gives Oscar worthy performance in audition. Gets part.
POV from single mother & the actress playing the role of mother on show.
Actress uses app to find one-and-done sex partners. Mother has no life of own, lives for daughter. But even if they did allow tentatively imagine dating (or sex), the person they dated would be a man.
The part kid won was for mini series. The single mother & the woman who plays the mother on tv, flirt a lot, and fall into a relationship.
Interesting enough average read.

To start with this was a cute story and I enjoyed the interaction between the three main characters for about half of the book. However once Sarah and Katie get together the story and dialogue began to feel a bit ‘clunky’ and I didn’t really find their relationship particularly interesting. In fact I was more interested in the TV show.
If possible I would have given 2.5 stars.

It was good. Cute, short, and sweet. Easily a comfort read as there's little to no angst.

Double Plot Love Story
This is a really good love story, there’s the story about the adult characters falling in love while filming a tv series;one a single mom who’s daughter is playing her first acting role, the other a burnt out former child star, but the best part is the ending and finding out who did it.So read it through and NO CHEATING!!!!

It was a fun and light read without any frills. The characters were all very likable and the story was fun to read. I would definitely recommend it.

A good short romance to fill your evening. Loved the build up and slow burn. Loved that there weren’t any gay panic. Loved the gradual family life

Amazing
This really was an amazing story. It is told by the main characters, alternating.
One thing that stuck out to me was when, Katie, the former child star is dumped (temporarily, because this is an HEA!) by Sarah, she muses that the director is doing what's best for the movie, Sarah is doing what's best for her daughter, but who is looking out for her? It shows, very well, with minimal wording, her feelings about how she was treated as a child star. Beautiful. Just beautiful.
And Sarah's using the excuse of "just doing what is best for my child" when she breaks it off with Katie, instead of really looking at why - newly coming out, what will people think? - etc., is so typical of single parents. (I know, since I did it myself!).
It can be difficult (judging by other stories) to write children well. The author did a superb job with the daughter. She was a real person, a real child, and the relationships with others were well done.
Just beautifully written. Can't wait to read more by this author.

Another enjoyable read
Once again another sweet and interesting novel by Kim Hartfield. I really like the chemistry between the two women and the simplicity of the story.

Katie is a former child star who's been offered a leading role in a new series, after spending several years partying and having casual sex with women, and not working. Sarah is the mother of 8 year old Emma. She's a divorced single parent who works hard to make ends meet and put Emma first. When Emma lands a role on the same TV series where Katie is playing her mother, Sarah and Katie slowly begin to become friends, and there is a bit of an attraction. But Sarah has never been with a woman and Katie has never been in a relationship. Plus for Sarah, Emma always comes first.
The set up for this book is quite good and it held my interest almost through to the end. Then, in the last 15% or so, after the "big crisis" was resolved somewhat easily, there was a lot of telling and not much showing, as if the author just wanted to be done with it all.
It's a 3.5, but since most of it was pretty good, I'll round up to a 4.

When her child becomes a TV actress, our heroine forms a close bond with her TV mom.
This was an interesting read, delivering more than I expected from it. On the surface, I was expecting a straightforward F/F romance with lots of steam, something perhaps more on the erotica side. Instead, while we do get some nice steamy scenes, this is a real romance as each partner learns, grows and discovers an unexpected relationship. It actually made for a very refreshing and enjoyable read.
The story was well written and easy to read, while the characters had real depth to them, complete with hopes and fears which they had to overcome. Overall, a very pleasant read, well worth the time.
Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed this plot, especially the character growth of both Katie and Sarah. They each developed in nearly opposite ways. Katie matures, actively pursing a full on relationship for the first time, and it's with the mother of an eight year old when she used to hate kids. Sarah, on the other hand, learns to relax and enjoy life. I also really enjoyed all the behind-the-scenes stuff. However, I just couldn't get fully pulled into the story because a lot if the dialogue felt awkward and forced. And the television show they were filming, which was supposed to be super tense, and which everyone was buzzing about it winning awards just felt incredibly weak to me.

I honestly thought this might be another soft read where mom meets gal pal, and steamy. end with fluff.
Instead, I was pleased to read real parenting struggles, adult and child actors dealing with past and present child actor status, and the weird way our social circles change as we grow and change.
yes, there was also some very steamy stuff too.
so if you enjoy f/f romances that are a bit deeper, this is a great read to dig into!

I must admit this was my first romance novel and I'm glad I picked this one. It was a bit fluffy but in a low drama way. It's most everything you want in a WLW story. Emma is so mature for her age but still keeps being a normal 8-year-old. Katie has actual development and Sarah is the best mom. You'll actually end up invested in what happens on the show, thankfully the author shows us that part instead of just telling us it happened. All in all I am definately going to read more from this author.

Enjoyable Story
Sarah is divorced and has 8 year old daughter, Emma, who wants to try out for an acting part. Sarah thought she was straight until she meets Katie, a has been actress, selected for a lead role in a HBO Series.
Sarah worries that she has to choose Emma over Katie and what would Emma think of her with a woman. What about the Tabloids and the things they would say. The first think Katie told Sarah the day they met in set was she didn't like kids and couldn't imagine being a mother.
Many ups and downs and each person may just find out what they are made of!

Katie, once a well known child star and hoping for a comeback and Sarah and her daughter Emma new to the world of t.v. shows/acting meet in this short love story with steamy bits, some hiccups and the hope for a HEA. Sarah, divorced and working from home as a court transcriber is warm, unassuming and happy to let her daughter Emma blossom and experience new things when the chance arises. Katie's outlook on life is tainted by childhood experiences during her acting days. Nicely written characters and storyline. I look forward to more from Ms. Hartfield.

A child actress meets the mother of a up and coming new child actress.
The author has created a believable story about the complications that occur when a single parent has to decide whether she wants her daughter to love the woman she is acting with on the set to become her step-parent. Enjoy!

Sarah, Katie and Emma lives took an unexpected turn when one small child decides to be a star. Loved the story line. It got a little confusing going back and forth with the two main characters. Thus 4 stars. Overall a great read.

Single mother of a child actor meets former child actor now wild child. HEA ensues. Secondary characters are a bit flat. One noteworthy feature: Emma behaves like an eight year old rather than like a miniature adult with matching vocabulary and wisdom.

I thought this was great, but I also felt like some of the "steamy" scenes were kind of clipped. They ended a bit too abrupt.
I did love the characters and I loved the tension of not knowing what was going to happen to Sarah and Katie's relationship as we drew closer to the climax.

Well written caricatures. I have only read this book by this author but will look for more. I enjoyed this one that much. Only saw 1 problem the editor show have caught but not a big deal.

Very flat, utilitarian writing with zero chemistry between the main characters, unrealistic happenings, and a poorly written 8 year-old.

Love the story
Great story, I really enjoyed Karie and Sarah’s interactions. I didn’t get Emma drama after finding out though. Wish there was more there but great overall.
