"Thick or thin, soft or crisp, dropped or rolled or shaped or sliced, cookies mean happiness."COOKIES! Who wouldn't want a delicious cookie to dip into their coffee or after a long day? Winnie The Pooh and his friends sure are fans and here are some of their favorite recipes!
This cookbook begins with some common baking tips to maximize your success with cookie recipes and instructions for how to make specialized ingredients (i.e. vanilla sugar, colored sugar, etc.). From there, we delve into six categories of cookies and various recipes underneath.
Anytime Cookies: These are simpler cookies, ones that aren't much fuss in the kitchen but are still delicious.
Recipes Include:
--Plain & Simple Cookies (with molasses and finely chopped almonds)
--Pecan Fingers (while warm, roll in powdered sugar)
--Chocolate Crisps (thin, crispy cookie cut into rectangles)
--Chocolate Butter Cookies (chocolate ball cookies rolled in powdered sugar)
--Brown-Sugar Chocolate-Chip Cookies
--Pecan Gingersnaps
--Peanut Butter & Jelly Cookies (peanut butter cookies with jam in the center)
--Brown-Sugar Nut Squares (a brown sugar cookie base with a sugared walnut topping)
--Piglet's Lemon Cookies (sprinkled with pink sugar)
--Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
--Raisin Rollups (flattened cookie dough with a pecan-raisin filling, rolled up and cut to form a spiral)
--Expotition Cookies (crystalized ginger and spices)
--Cinnamon Sugar Slices (similar to a snickerdoodle cookie)
Cookies for Company: These seem to be a bit more sophisticated in flavor and complexity. Stuff you want to bring out when you want to impress the folks! (Though to be honest, I don't think they seem very different from the Anytime Cookies).
Recipes Include:
--Coffee Cookies (flavored with instant coffee)
--Lemon-Glazed Tea Cookies (no tea, just lemon flavored and lemon glazed)
--Peanut-Butter Cutouts
--Cream-Cheese Cookies (decorated with colored sugar)
--Sables (a simple butter cookie)
--Chewy Chocolate-Chunk Cookies
--Chocolate Orange Fingers (orange cookies dipped in chocolate)
--Madeleines (using the seashell madeleine tins)
--Christopher Robin's Button Cookies (buttery small cookies decorated with 4 holes to look like buttons)
--Tiger-Striped Shortbread (chocolate drizzled)
--Piglet's Pine-Nut Cutouts
--Rainy Day Jam Cookies (similar to peanut butter jam, but with a plainer dough)
Honey Pot Cookies: These are cookies for Winnie-the-Pooh when he comes a-calling. I had no idea there were so many honey cookies!!
Recipes Include:
--Honey-Pecan Shortbread
--Granola-Honey Squares
--Honey Madeleines
--Chocolate Honey Madeleins
--Chocolate-Chip Honey Cookies
--Honey Carrot Cookies (something for Pooh, something for Rabbit)
--Honey Lace Sandwiches (a very thin cookie (similar to brandy snaps), coated on one side with chocolate)
Holiday Cookies and Icing Cookies: These are the traditional cookies to be enjoyed around the various holidays. Lots of ginger, spices and fun designs to decorate.
Recipes Include:
--Snowballs (orange cookies with ground almonds, coated in powdered sugar)
--Maple Syrup Cookies (brown sugar and molasses cookies, sweetened further with maple syrup)
--Gingerbread Cookies
--Vanilla Sugar Cutouts
--Chocolate Sugar Cutouts
--Pumpkin Squares (flavored with cinnamon and cloves)
--Banana Spice (with cinnamon, cloves, and pecans)
--Ginger Cookie Cutouts (looks fairly similar to the gingerbread ones)

--Meringue-Powder Icing
--Powder-Sugar Icing

Overall Thoughts:
Honestly, not too bad. This is my third of the miniature Winnie-the-Pooh cookbooks and unlike the other two in this series (the Picnic Cookbook and the Teatime Cookbook)) doesn't have any pork-related recipes (let's not tell Piglet about those books).
This one possibly has the most obvious connection to the literature - we have Piglet's Lemon Cookies, Expotition Cookies, Christopher Robin's Button Cookies etc. A whole section of honey flavored cookies and of course line drawings of the characters dancing across the pages.
While I appreciated that the author was trying to connect the source material to this cookie book, it still wasn't entry for me. I would love a sentence or two explaining why Piglet suddenly has a recipe for a lemon cookie or what about the Expotition makes it expedition-themed.
At the very least, this cookbook did have a lot of fun cookie recipes. Some were complicated and some were quite easy to make. Not too shabby.

I tried so many of the cookies from this book. These are basic cookie recipes that can be baked with pretty simple ingredients you most likely will have in your kitchen cabinets. This is a great little book to grab when you want something "sweet to eat", as Pooh would say. The cookies are not the most flavorful or fancy, but they can be whipped up quickly to be either baked immediately or refrigerated for later baking. I think children would enjoy baking from this as well.
