What the hell am I going to say??? I loved this book so freaking much! There were some sad things toward the end and I don't know if they can ever be mended but one can hope. This book pulled at all of my FEELS!

I CAN NOT BELIEVE Coco Ma wrote this book at 15 years of age! She's freaking amaze balls! If I could write this good at 15 I would have been a star! Hell, If I could write this good now, I could be a star!

Ohmygoodness! I absolutely love this story and I found myself another favorite epic fantasy to read over and over and over again. And I cannot believe that she's only 15 when she wrote this awesome book. Isn't the cover captivating enough? ICE and FIRE

First thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me a copy of that book!!

I don't even know where to start haha

First let's talk about the story, the plot, the twists...
I loooooooved the idea of this story, I loved the elemental magic (I have a soft spot for it). The plot is simple: a princess (with her crew) going after a monster, a beast who is killing people. They need to put it down fast. Simple but it worked so much because it left the necessary space for plot twists and storytellin

There are some authors I love beyond their books. I appreciate their humour, the struggles they have endured, what they stand for, how nice they seem as a person, or how they use their platform to spread awareness. I don't think I have ever been as impressed by an author as I am by Coco Ma, however. Not only is she a musical genius but she wrote this book when she was FIFTEEN YEARS OLD!! This book is such a strong debut novel and the young age of the author only goes to make it seem even more im ...more

I got a chance to read an advance copy of this book and I must say, IT IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST-READ!!!!!! I could not stop thinking about this book after I read it...
Asterin is such a freaking BADASS. I can only aspire to be half as badass as she is. She's flawed but strong, she doesn't take no for an answer, she's stupid sometimes, but she (almost) always learns from her mistakes.
AND OMFG LUNA??!?!!!!?!?! Character development much?!?!?!? I don't want to spoil anything but DAMN.

Thank you to Blackstone Publishing and NetGalley for a digital ARC of this wonderful book by Coco Ma, in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this story, the characters were likeable and developed well throughout, the storyline had a lot of unexpected twists and turns and I can envision how the plot is likely to develop into a second book, or even a series, I felt that this might come under the heading of ‘fairytale’ retelling, although I won’t say which one (spoilers!) it included

What a captivating and imaginative tale of magic and friendship! While reading this, I felt like I was under an enchantment spell - I couldn't get enough of it and couldn't turn the pages fast enough.

So apparently the author was 15 when she wrote this and damn, am I super jealous of her incredible talent! To have this kind of creativity and grace with words and to be able to come up with such an incredible world, it’s a re

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book!

God, this is going to be a hard review to write. No matter what I say, I'm going to sound like I hated this book, and I actually didn't. I tried to vocalize my issues with it to my partner, and he sympathetically said 'Well I hope the next one's better, ay?' without realizing I DID like this book, I was just beyond frustrated.

First of all, I never really enjoy books where they overhype the 'special' someone. You know how i

This book tells of a princess that is in training to protect her kingdom. There is a demon that is bound to a witch that are killing people in villages.
I read some of the reviews before starting this book and I was excited to start it. The prologue starts off really good and definitely caught my attention. After that the story just drags itself out in a snail like pace for me. If I gutted this book to the action pack dialogue that it started off with in the prologue it might be a total of 60 p

Shadow Frost follows Princess Asterin and her companions on a journey to defeat a demon that is terrorizing her kingdom. Among her companions is Quinlan who might be the only one that can help Asterin master her powers in time to confront the demon. But the real threat to Asterin’s kingdom might be lu

I received this from Netgalley for an honest review. All thoughts and feelings expressed are my own.

I see everyone praising this book and I just couldn't connect to it. It felt flat. It felt like I read summaries at times and I'm really sad about that bc I think this book has such good promise to be honest. Reading it at times was really hard and it was chopped up. I kept putting it down after 4-6 pages bc it did nothing for me. And I'm tired of reading books that do nothing for me.

This was such a good book! I was intrigued as soon as I started reading and couldn't put it down.

The most notable thing about it is that elemental magic is used in a creative AND non-cliche way! There was great character development and plenty of plot twists to keep things interesting.

This book was a bit all over the place.

“Shadow Frost” tells the story of a young princess ready to fight for her kingdom against that of a demon bound to a witch known simply as ‘The Woman’ as they tear through town after town killing anyone unlucky enough to cross their path, but soon, the princess finds that the threats are a little closer to home and if she’s not careful she might find something waiting for her in the shadows.

This book has an odd way of doing the POV where ther

A full five on five!
This is how fantasy should be. I loved this book. I have some parameters for a good book, especially fantasy and this debut novel from the author checks almost all these. I am trying to break down the things I liked below-
* narration/storytelling/literature- the narration was pretty perfect. Words were swiftly knitted.
(Mild spoilers below)

* world buildup- there is a mortal realm and immortal realm, and gods and king and queens.
* magic- ma

I'm VERY torn about this. On the one hand, I loved most of the characters and I can see the intention the author had with this story, but the writing was a little messy at times. As in: I felt like I was reading a standalone with the amount of plot-points crammed into one book? I definitely wish this was longer and the universe/characters have peaked my interest but it felt a little too much sometimes. I did enjoy this though, full review to come.

Shadow Frost has a very intriguing premise. It promises magic powers, a brave princess fighting for her people and plots hidden in plots. It stayed intriguing enough for me to finish it, but sadly there were a couple bigger issues with it. The main issue was the pacing of the plot, it felt a little all over the place and I struggled keeping up with it at times, then other times I found myself bored to death. By this I mean the "main" plot seemed to be running headfirst at me in the first 20% of ...more
