What the hell am I going to say??? I loved this book so freaking much! There were some sad things toward the end and I don't know if they can ever be mended but one can hope. This book pulled at all of my FEELS!

I CAN NOT BELIEVE Coco Ma wrote this book at 15 years of age! She's freaking amaze balls! If I could write this good at 15 I would have been a star! H

Okay, I know we shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but dang this one makes it really hard.

It's gorgeous and so aesthetically pleasing I'm legit drooling on my keyboard as I type. 😂😍

Plus, the story sounds amazing as well! Need to read! This is going on my TBR like... well, right now! XD

Shadow Frost is the kind of debut that I would have gobbled up in the early 2000s, but unfortunately doesn't hold up to my 2019 expectations—which is a reflection on my reading tastes and not on the book's contents.

Gosh, this novel was a struggle. I wanted so badly to like it, because I admire the author's tenacity and talent—she wrote this debut in her actual teen years, and she's a musical prodigy!—but I can't rate higher based on my admiration for the author. Shadow Frost needed som

Shadow Frost was a fun, sizzling fantasy full of intrigue and betrayal and although it wasn't perfect I still thoroughly enjoyed it!

Asterin Faelenhart, Princess of Axaria, was tasked along with her companions to vanquish a demon that was terrorizing the lands. However, there was much more to the situation than met the eye and the group of friends had to gradually uncover a web of secrets and lies.

Asterin was a headstrong, tenacious character who desperately

This was such a delightful collision of magic and mayhem, demons and secret identities, and enough sass to make my heart content. (Look I stand by the fact that all books are better with characters snarking at each other.) It's about hunting demons, but it's also about secrets and trust. I definitely am here for this amount of plot twists too. It's such a book of layers -- nothing is what it seems.

I will admit that Shadow Frost for me was all about that gorgeous cover!! I just loved it and when I saw its about elementalists I couldn't help but this it was perfect. I'm not a fan of the title, it feels very generic and is an odd combination with such a great cover. Having now read the book I feel that more than ever. At the time I didn't know Coco Ma was only 15 years old when she wrote it, I didn't learn that until later... and it

Ohmygoodness! I absolutely love this story and I found myself another favorite epic fantasy to read over and over and over again. And I cannot believe that she's only 15 when she wrote this awesome book. Isn't the cover captivating enough? ICE and FIRE

I absolutely hate it when I can’t finish a book. I fell in love with this book’s cover, then the blurb sealed the deal for me. My anticipation grew during the prologue, especially when I came across this little marvel:
This was a gateway to a realm of merciless darkness, of beautiful horrors and bloodthirsty nightmares.
I usually love banter between characters but a lot of it hasn’t worked for me so far. It’s gotten to the point that if a particular character calls the princess a ‘br

First thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me a copy of that book!!

I don't even know where to start haha

First let's talk about the story, the plot, the twists...
I loooooooved the idea of this story, I loved the elemental magic (I have a soft spot for it). The plot is simple: a princess (with her crew) going after a monster, a beast who is killing people. They need to put it down fast. Simple but it worked so much because it left the necessary space for plot twists and storytellin

I got a chance to read an advance copy of this book and I must say, IT IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST-READ!!!!!! I could not stop thinking about this book after I read it...
Asterin is such a freaking BADASS. I can only aspire to be half as badass as she is. She's flawed but strong, she doesn't take no for an answer, she's stupid sometimes, but she (almost) always learns from her mistakes.
AND OMFG LUNA??!?!!!!?!?! Character development much?!?!?!? I don't want to spoil anything but DAMN.

Initially, I was intrigued by this book because of the gorgeous cover but then I read the synopsis and was totally in! A princess fighting tooth and nail for her life and kingdom, a gang who doesn't get along but have one common goal, demons, gods, elemental magic, and queer rep that will tug on your heart? Basically, all the elements that I love in a fantasy novel. Also, a fun little fact about this book is that Coco Ma wrote it when she was fift

For me, Shadow Frost had a strong beginning and it managed to captivate my attention quickly. However, I kept finding things that annoyed me soon after (basically, when Rose and Quinlan were introduced) and overall, it was just all over the place. Therefore, my enjoyment of the book was lacking. Because of that, I couldn't rate it any higher than

I don't really like writing negative reviews, so I'll keep this one short. I massively respect anyone who can write a book and get it published. Unfortunately, Shadow Frost made me feel pretty similar to how I felt when reading Frostblood, which is super bored. Thank you to Blackstone Publishing and NetGalley for a digital ARC of this wonderful book by Coco Ma, in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this story, the characters were likeable and developed well throughout, the storyline had a lot of unexpected twists and turns and I can envision how the plot is likely to develop into a second book, or even a series, I felt that this might come under the heading of ‘fairytale’ retelling, although I won’t say which one (spoilers!) it included

This was an interesting book, with very good characters and great writing, but not much happens and until 72% of the book I wasn't that hooked or shocked by anything that is revealed in the course of the story.
BUT, the final scene made me interested to pick up the sequel to see what happens.

Coco Ma’s debut novel Shadow Frost has everything you could hope for in a new YA fantasy series. It had an arrogant and independent princess, a witty prince with indigo flames, and an entire plot shrouded in magic and scandal. There’s absolutely no exaggeration when I tell you that this book has magic gracing every single page and what’s even better is how it’s magic that is always evolving and changing. A first in series is always tricky as there are characters to introduce and a world to create. Here the author has chosen for her debut to foray into young adult territory with a magic system based on elemental powers which is a very exciting concept. To further expand it she includes Gods who might or might not meddle and then of course there are the main protagonists and somewhat topically there are six of them ! So if a story with an ensemble cast appeal to you then prepare to become complete ...more

Shadow Frost is the kind of book that I really wanted to love. It has a gorgeous cover, a captivating name and the summary left me curious enough to want to know more about the quest. Were there things that I liked about this book? Yes. But there were also a great deal of things that just didn’t quite work for me. For simplicity’s sake, I’m splitting this review into three points: What I loved, What I liked and What I didn’t like.
