This book started off a little slower than the first. It was a little more difficult for me to get into, but maybe it was just me being distracted. Either way the further I got into this story the more I enjoyed it. But the end I couldn’t put it down. It had my heart racing and me trying to read so fast, I just had to know what was happening next! I love these books and hope this series continues!

Another great installment in Texas Justice series. Its centered around 3 police detectives who after being put on probation are demoted to the Cold Case Unit.

This time we have the heartbreaking story of Juan Acosta whose wife and unborn child were murdered by a drug dealer he was trying to bring down. He managed to survived scared on the outside and full of guilt and living for revenge.

Vicki Holloway also lives in guilt and fear. She introduced her sister to a man who turned out to be a monste

I was sent this book from the publisher. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

If you love mystery/suspense with steamy romance you will love this. I was lucky enough to get an ARC of the first book and fell in love with the author. I was freaking out when I was sent book two. I loved this one even more than I liked the first one.

This is a detective story (but do not let that

The second installment of the Texas Justice Series was even better than the first. Detective Juan Acosta is suspicious of his new neighbor as much as he’s drawn to her. Nicki is running scared and a police detective is the last person she’d confide in. I found myself sucked into this story from page one. Great characters with lots of mystery, action, and romance. You’ll be on the edge of your seat till the very end!

Great characters both the main ones, supporting and even the villains were well drawn.
Speaking of M.C.'s that would not only be Juan and Nicki but also her daughter Bell and Juan's dog, Sweetie. Sweetie is more of a supporting character and that support is where her story comes in. Support and comfort as well as cuteness is part of her story. Bell also adds sweetness to the story. She is also direct and at times wise beyond her years when it comes to pain and fear. I can see

Once again, Christie Craig has created a tension-filled, feeling-inducing book that kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I read the book in a day and wished I had the restraint to draw it out a bit more. While the romance didn't really capture me as much as the drama and action did, I found the story overall thrilling and enjoyable. There's something in this book for everyone, if you take the time to enjoy each piece of it.

Juan Acosta is a cold case detective working his way through his own personal tragedy when he has an accidental run in with his new neighbor, who beats the crap out of him before she realizes he's not who she thinks he is.

Nicki (or rather, Vicki), is new to Texas and is on the run with her niece to keep her safe from her estranged and crazy father who Vicki suspects killed her sister and abused her niece. So wh

DON’T BREATHE A WORD is the second story in the Texas Justice series. Although I didn’t read the first story (yet), I was fully able to follow and completely enjoy Juan and Vicki’s stories – and they each have a unique story to be told that just happens to collide together not only in romance but in the danger zone as well. I will go back for the first book since I’m now invested in these detectives who are facing such challenges and such changes in their lives that I

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Forever Pub & Grand Central Pub, but all opinions provided are my own.

It’s been three years since Cold Case Unit police detective Juan Acosta’s wife and unborn daughter were murdered by a man he was investigating undercover. Since then, he’s been drowning in guilt and anger, and the only real thing that gets him through is his work.

But then his new neighbor (and single mom) Nikki Hanson moves in with the force of a particularly dangerous hu

Texas Justice #2, The Cold Case Unit of Anniston PD has a new case when they look into a young stripper's disappearance, the murder of her boyfriend, and the connection they had to the gang leader/drug dealer who killed Juan Acosta's wife and unborn baby. Juan already killed him in the line of duty but the large scar on his face serves as a daily reminder that he failed his family. Finding the person responsible for this cold case and maybe even finding the stripper alive will help, o

Juan Acosta is still dealing with the guilt he feels when his police undercover job led to the death of his wife and unborn child. He is watching the video his wife urged them to make for their unborn child when his dog, Sweetie insists on going outside. Her insistent barking draws Juan to look outside and he sees someone jumping the fence into his new neighbor's yard. Police mode kicks in and Juan rushes to stop a burglar. The potential burgler throws a rusty old charcoal grill at Juan as Juan ...more

Don’t Breathe a Word is the first book I have read by this author and though it is second in a series (Texas Justice) it can be easily read and enjoyed as a standalone. In this book, we follow multiple points of view, by Vicki, Juan, and the bad guys as well so there is not as much drawn out suspense this way but still enough to make it an enjoyable read and there are still a few twists and turns to keep it engaging. The prologue starts the story off with a bang and really draws you in and sets ...more

This is book 2 in the Texas Justice series but it can absolutely be read as a stand alone and still understand it. This one is about Juan Acosta and Vicki Holloway. Juan see's the daily reminder that he didn't save his wife and child in the scar on his face. He only lives for one thing now, revenge. Until his new neighbor moves in and he knows that something else is going on with her and her daughter. Vicki ran after she believes she saw the man she believes killed her sister, even knowing he is ...more

This was the first ARC copy i have received from Netgalley and it did not disappoint! I want to start off by saying i did not read the first instalment of the Texas Justice series, but after finishing this book I will 100% be going back to read the first one. This was also my first, and wont be the last, book I have read from this author!

First off, this book had me hooked from the first chapter. I felt like I was reading a script of my favourite episode of some of my favourite crime

Juan Acosta has a new neighbor, he knows this because he saw his dog making the acquaintance of a child. Now his dog has alerted him to something else and he sees someone trying to break in the back door.

Being a cop and a good neighbor he starts to give chase. This becomes my first giggle in this book. Never underestimate the power of a woman alone with a child.

When the officers she called get there, Juan knows he's never gonna live this down. In the aftermath, he also re

Vicki is on the run with her niece, who she is raising after her sister was killed. Vicki thought her past was dead and buried but it is back and wants revenge. She has changed her name and has moved in next door to Juan. Juan is a cop with the cold case unit and is still trying to piece his life back together. This is the second book in the Texas Justice series and can be read as a standalone. Christie Craig provides a fast-moving plot centered around a multitude of emotional contradictions including vengeance, trust, guilt, and love. The main characters are all superlatively developed and draw the reader’s sentiment from the first page. Craig has the narrative brimming with action the entire way through. The romantic scenes do read somewhat awkward but not enough lower any expectation of what this bo ...more

This is the second book of Christie Craig's Texas Justice series about a cold case division. The story follows Juan, a detective whose pregnant wife was killed because of his undercover work, and Vicki, a woman in hiding with her niece. The writer uses both the good guys' and bad guys' points of view in the story, so there isn't a whole lot of suspense or mystery build-up. The niece is precocious but goes into "are you my new daddy" mode way early. I had a little trouble getting over the romanti ...more

I have enjoyed this author's rom-coms in the past, but this book proves that she is just as good at writing romantic suspense. The story is so well developed that it's obvious the author put a lot of time into researching, plotting, writing, editing--all of it. The story itself leans a bit more toward the suspense element, with some satisfying romance thrown in. It creates a nice mesh that keeps the story moving along at a fast pace. If you enjoy suspense books with an underlying romance, you'll ...more

I didn’t realize when I picked this book up that it was book two in the series. That being said Don’t Breathe A Word easily stands on its own. I really enjoyed the suspense/mystery angle here. It was dynamic, compelling, and kept me guessing. I do love a good cold case, so I really like that aspect of the story. I'll admit it took me a little longer to warm up to the romance. To be honest, I think I might have warmed up to it quicker without the prologue. After "meeting" his wife and feeling their love for each other in that scene, it took longer for me to get into the romance. The characters are complex and layered, which I always app ...more

Whoa! This was super good! I really wasn't sure what to expect, I'm not much of a romantic suspense reader but this synopsis sounded really enticing, thank you so much to the wonderful people at forever for this copy.

This is my first time reading this author and Don't Breathe A Word is very well written. It has high intensity, a level of mystery and I really liked both of the characters.

Juan is a police detective whose wife and unborn child were murdered by the drug dealer he was undercover trying to catch. Vicki's sister is murdered so she takes her niece and goes on the run. Juan and Vicki end up being neighbors and both are very nervous about the other. As their stories are revealed, it is a great suspense/romance story! I really enjoyed this book and its characters. I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.

This is the second entry in the Texas Justice series and it was just as well written and engaging as the first. This is my favorite of the series so far. I thought that Juan and "Vicki" were amazing together. I'm glad that Juan's story was next since he seemingly had the most heartache of the three cold-case detectives, but I can't wait to see where the series takes us in the future. Great author, and great series!
The Romance Book Disciple (Samantha)
Craig does a great job developing these characters and creating lots of tension and suspense. Because the story is told in 3rd person, you get a peek at all the characters, not just the hero and heroine. In romantic suspense, I love this approach. Vicki and Juan have a very interesting dynamic and I loved that they both had a companion (Vicki has her niece and Juan has his dog-they both add to the story well).
Bottom line: great romantic suspense!
