What a good read. I enjoy biographies but this one is about my family. I’ve heard these stories from my dad,Maureen’s younger brother, for many years. I had a good cry n a good laugh. I’m so incredibly blessed to be where I am today because of my grandparents decisions. They made the most of everything, gave what they could n Aunt Maureen in the middle of it all. What a privilege to have this book in my tin of few family items.

I loved this book. While it covered the hardships of a family that left the hardships of Ireland to try for a better life in New Zeland, and later Australia, it was positive and uplifting. The family was big and loud and at times quite poor, but they had music, each other, and a will to succeed. I highly recommend whether you’re musically inclined or not. You will enjoy this journey.

This is more than a charming Irish memoir. The voice of a spirited young girl sets the perfect tone to deliver Irish history, the determination of a family to make their way into another country, and the importance of music.

Excellent book

It is not just about a girl learning to play a musical instrument, it is about her growing up. Maureen O'Carroll is quite a character and is always up to some mischief. I highly recommend this book.
