THE CLASSIC MARVEL SERIES RETURNS FOR MARVEL’S 80th ANNIVERSARY! Three titanic tales celebrating the first decade of Marvel stories! First — an all-new tale of the man they call the Wolverine begins in the 1940s! Then comes Captain America, the first Avenger of World War II still fighting for freedom today! And finally, the untold tale of Namor and the atom bomb!
Charles Soule is a #1 New York Times-bestselling novelist, comics author, screenwriter, musician, and lapsed attorney. He has written some of the most prominent stories of the last decade for Marvel, DC and Lucasfilm in addition to his own work, such as his comics Curse Words, Letter 44 and Undiscovered Country, and his original novels Light of the Jedi, The Endless Vessel, The Oracle Year and Anyone. He lives in New York.
First story is Logan in WWII with his company finding a bunch of Nazis trying to make a witch cast a spell for them to turn the war in their favor while threatening to kill her daughter?! All this goes to hell, literally, and the spawn from her spell is The Truth, which I won't spoil any more. Logan does what he does best. Great artwork!
Second story an even better one, with Namor also in WWII, right before Hiroshima. And Namor is tired of humans and their war. He's just doing one more favor for them, and he gets played. Solid story and artwork.
"You can tell that to the dead babies I saw there.. when you meet them in whatever afterlife you believe in." - Namor
Stories in anthology series are usually all over the map. I like the possibility of using lesser-known or secondary characters for the support stories - something this book didn't come through with most of the time.
