How to Reform a Rake #2

Meddle in a Marquess's Affairs

Rate this book
Rakes make the worst husbands…

Not that Rex Baluster, the Marquess of Highwater would want her anyway. But when he arrived at Lady Camille Ducat’s door shot and near death, she didn’t hesitate to help him. She had no reputation to preserve after all. She’d given that up when she ended her engagement to another rake. And though her heart beat wildly every time she looked at Rex, she knew that to involve herself with such a man would only lead to heartache.

When the Duke of Longley asked him to help right a wrong, Rex agreed without question. He wasn’t like most lords, having grown up as a street urchin in London’s notorious Docklands. He talked best with his fists. Nor was he afraid when he was wounded. Somehow, Rex had always assumed his end would be as violent as his beginning. What he didn’t expect was for a beautiful angel with the gentlest touch he’s ever known to nurse him back to health. If only he were the type of man who could be a good husband to Lady Camille.

The more time Rex spends with Camille, however, the harder it is to deny his feelings. Can they put their pasts aside? Rakes, after all, make the BEST husbands.

This is a standalone romance but is part of a five book series with a prologue:

How to Reform a Rake
Don’t Tell a Duke You Love Him
Meddle in a Marquess’s Affairs
Never Trust an Errant Earl
Never Kiss an Earl at Midnight
Make a Viscount Beg

Yes, I am grinning, again! I just finished MEDDLE IN A MARQUESS’S AFFAIRS by Tammy Andresen. Yes, once again she delivers that happy ending following the unknown and slightly bumpy journey to get there!

Their introduction was less than typical, but the bullet in his gut made social niceties problematic. Rex was part of that foolish gypsy bet that he would kiss the Ducat sister who was destined for him, not that he had any plans of kissing Lady Camille Ducat, no way. Not even if she was the angel of mercy who was nursing him back to health, not like he would make for a good husband, or anything.

My, my how things change! MEDDLE IN A MARQUESS’S AFFAIRS by Tammy Andresen is one more fun and sassy read with a few heartstring twists that made my afternoon fly by! Nothing better than to see the wicked rake fall for a woman the Ton considered ruined, proving to them all that love knows best!

I received a complimentary copy from Tammy Andresen!

Tammy Andresen is my go-to author for historical romance, and after adoring Don’t Tell a Duke You Love Him, I was eager for more of the How to Reform a Rake series. I was hooked, despite to see how the stories played out for the other characters, and happily devoured Meddle in a Marquess’s Affairs.

From the start, this one hooked me. It sucked me straight back into the story, straight back into the drama of the series, and I devoured the book in no time at all. Tammy Andresen stories are always quick reads, yet this one felt quicker than usual. Despite this, the book contained all the goodness I expected from the author.

The chemistry between the characters was great, the drama kept you hooked, the overall storyline developed well, and there was plenty to keep you turning the pages throughout. Although I would not label this my favourite Tammy Andresen novel, it was a wonderful little read.

I cannot wait for the third How to Reform a Rake book, as I need to see what comes next. Without a doubt, this series is a lot of fun.

The gypsy, Vadoma, sees the destiny of five rakes in her tarot cards. Each will kiss a Ducat sister and seal their fate. Rex, Marquess of Highwater, was helping in a case of revenge when he is shot. Recovering from his wound at the Duke of Longley's home, he meets an angel. Camille Ducat, the sister he was meant to kiss and marry is his angel. He may not deserve her, but he loves her and accepts his fate... gladly!

Five noblemen who are all rakes & rogues, five sisters & a bet made at Christmas witnessed by Vadoma a gypsy who gave each lord a tarot card.
Rex Baluster, the Marquess of Highwater spent three years on the streets on London after escaping the orphanage he was sent to when his parents died. He finds himself elevated to the aristocracy when his uncles die. When Max the Duke of Longley asks him to help right a wrong, Rex agreed without question. He talks best with his fists but whilst chasing their quarry Rex is shot. Somehow, Rex had always assumed his end would be as violent as his beginning. He’s taken to Max's home & who should be there but Lady Camille Ducat, the chameleon of his tarot card. What he didn’t expect was for a beautiful angel with the gentlest touch he’s ever known to nurse him back to health.
Another easy reading, captivating charming read. Both Rex & Camille feel they are not worthy, he because of his upbringing & her as she’s ruined after breaking off her engagement. However they are both immediately attracted to each other & grow close as she nurses him back to health. The pace is good & I read it in a sitting. The chance meeting between other friends & sisters had me smiling & I look forward to the rest of the series
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Love this new series but no surprise because Tammy is one of my favorite authors. Plus, don't we all love to see how to reform a rake? They do make the best husbands, or so I'm told!! The five heroes in this collection are all drawn together by a gypsy and some tarot cards she dealt to each of them with a prophecy of what would was to come.
Raised in one of London's worst areas, Lord Reginald, the Marquess of Highwater, had only by chance inherited his title, but at over six feet and very muscular, he could fight with the best of them. His friend Max needed him to help severely injure a man that had dared to try to take advantage of his wife. But he ended up getting shot and Max took him to his home to heal where is wife's sister Camille lived with them. Camille was determined to help him get well.
Not to give anything else away, this is such a charming story with characters you cannot help feel sympathy for the struggles they have endured. But happiness may come unexpectedly when Camille meddles in the Marquess's affairs! Be still my heart.

Meddle In A Marquess's Affairs by Tammy Andresen is an awesome historical romance. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Ms. Andresen has provided readers with a well-written book. The characters are lovable and a great fit for this story. Rex agrees to help his friend Max deliver a message and ends up shot for his trouble. Camille broke her engagement and was kicked out of her home when her fiance tried to force his attentions on her sister. Rex and Camille's story is full of drama, humor, spice and a little bit of action. I enjoyed reading Meddle In A Marquess's Affairs and look forward to my next book by Tammy Andresen. Meddle In A Marquess's Affairs is book 2 of the How To Reform A Rake Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from a third party. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I am so loving this series. Meddle in a Marquess's Affairs by Tammy Andresen is book 2 in the How to Reform a Rake series. I love the creativeness of this series as it all revolves around a gypsy and a bet. This may be my favorite series of all of Tammy’s books. I am truly enjoying it and can’t wait for book 3. Though it is in a series it can e read as a standalone but I highly recommend you read book 1, Don’t Tell The Duke You Love Him to understand the full story. Such delightful characters and it has a true feel for the regency era. This story has a bet, a shooting, recovery, past secrets, kindness, a cruel mother, loving sisters, comfort, an injury, true friends, rakes, attempted rape, rescue and love. I highly recommend this book as you won’t be disappointed!

This is a delightful series concerning five sisters and five friends. This is the second book in the series and is equally as engaging as the first. The main characters are Camille Ducat and Reginald Baluster, Marquess of Highwater (Rex). When Camille and Rex first set eyes upon each other there is an instant attraction. Camille has a very caring nature and is trying to right the upset she cause her family with her failed engagement. Rex is not the typical nobleman, having spent a good amount of time on the streets. He had no intention of marrying. I loved the interaction between them and the way in which attitudes can change. There is the menace of Lord Michael Ralston to address and her mother hasn’t finished meddling in their lives. I’m looking forward to the next book.

This is another awesome story by Tammy Andresen. The second in a series that's shaping up to be great. Reading about Rex's past got me very emotional. I felt so sorry for the little boy he once was. The grownup Rex made me laugh out loud a few times. Such a charmer! Camille was lovable and caring. I couldn't help but enjoy all the characters with the exception of Camille's mother. I really, really wanted to wring her neck. And now I'm ready for the next book!

This is a great series , it’s fun and a little light hearted , enjoyable reading and it has a slightly sinister element that runs through each book.
Every one could be read as a stand-alone but it’s so much better to read them in order .
I adore Tammy's books and this is a great one .
Enjoy !

This is an OK Regency romance, with a likable couple, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 3 stars from me.

I would recommend that you read the prologue "How to Reform a Rake" before starting this series. I'm not sure where all it can be found, but it was available at the end of the boxed set volumes 4-6 of Wicked Lords of London. You should also read the novellas in this series in order, starting with "Never Tell A Duke You Love Him".

My first issue with this story is that the author really needs to hire a better editor. There were lots of editing errors, and they were very distracting.

Because this is a short novella, it suffers from a lack of character development. That's the main reason I tend to prefer full-length books, and not novellas.

Camille is likable enough in this story, but I really wanted her and her sisters to stand up to her mother a little more. Her mother was absolutely awful.

Rex was OK, too, but he had a hard time dealing with his difficult past. It did help him to understand Camille, but it also almost caused the loss of their relationship.

I liked that Rex and Camille found their HEA, but found their instalove to be unbelievable.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Meddle in a Marquess’s Affairs, Book 2 of the How to Reform a Rake series, was about Lord Reginald "Rex" Baluster, the Marquess of Highwater, and Lady Camille "Cami" Ducat, eldest of five daughters of Lord Harold Rosemond, the Earl of Ducat.
When His Grace, Max, the Duke of Longley and his best friend, asked him to help deal with a man who had attacked his wife back in the Spring, Rex was only too willing to assist. After spotting and then chasing Lord Michael Ralston (Camille's former fiance) through their club and out into the streets, the scoundrel pulled out a pistol and shot Rex in the side. Rushing him to his home, Max, the coachman, and both Lily and her sister Camille, carried him into a bed-chamber before calling a doctor to aid him.
Several months before, Camille, having gone against their mother's demands, had assisted Max and her sister Lily with getting married. Max and Lily had provided her with a place to stay when their mother had turned her out of her home. On hearing why Rex had been shot, and by whom, decided to nurse him back to health.
Unknown to Camille, Rex, like Max and their three other friends, had made a bet with a gypsy fortune teller, that each one of them must collect a kiss from one lady of worth, and Camille was the lady Rex was to kiss. When she found out, it angered and hurt her, as she had already had a bad experience with one rake, was she destined to continue on with such mistakes with him too? Unfortunately for Camille, her mother schemed to have her betrothed once again with Lord Ralston, even though the man had attacked one of her other daughters. Thankfully, Lily, Max, and Rex came to her rescue.
The chemistry between Camille and Rex was immediate and the attraction just kept growing. Because of her mother and Lord Ralston, the drama and angst stayed high. But oh the humor that was woven into the mix! There was even a bit of intrigue.
The stories in this series just keep getting better. This one would have earned five stars if it hadn't been for the verbiage and wrong forms of address for the titled lords. The inconsistencies in that regard have been prominent with this particular author, unfortunately.

After a drunken bet is made with friends, one of the titled Englishmen does not plan on getting a kiss from the Ducat sister chosen to be his conquest. The marquess has no plans to ever wed, and he will not do anything that would entrap him. But when he agrees to do a favor, his life takes an unforeseen turn and nothing is ever the same again. The second very compelling story in the How to Reform a Rake series is constantly engrossing with unexpected twists and a cast of appealing characters. Tammy Andresen keeps me totally immersed in the many riveting circumstances in MEDDLE IN A MARQUESS’S AFFAIRS.

Since Rex Baluster grew up poor and without support from his family, he was stunned to become the Marquess of Highwater. While he may know how to act when with other titled individuals, he has never forgotten his rough upbringing. When a good friend asks for his assistance related to a rather shady set of circumstances, he readily agrees to help. Upon being injured during the incident, Rex is cared for by Lady Camille Ducat, the woman that a gypsy said would play a part in his future. Although she is wary of his intentions, because she knows all about men who are rakes, she cannot go against her compassionate nature when someone needs aid.

There was much delight in watching Camille and Rex interact with one another, as conversations are insightful along with their inner thoughts. Both have a past that makes them think a lasting relationship will never happen to them, so each feels emotionally conflicted again and again as situations arise. How the author had the couple work through their issues is sometimes amusing and other moments are very serious. While Rex may be the Marquess of Highwater, his approach to life is more like common people without great wealth, and this had me liking him immensely. I really felt for Camille and how she has been treated, and I just hoped she could finally be happy as she has to much love to give someone. Another entertaining installment to the series that I really enjoyed.

This was such a fun and entertaining "feel good" story. Rex Baluster, Marquess of Highwater was not like the lords he now called friends - he was orphaned at a young age, ran away from the orphanage when he was 13 and learned to take care of himself with his fists on the dangerous streets of London's Docklands. Because of several deaths in the family, Rex was now a marquess and though thankful to be off the streets; he swore never to love again because everyone leaves you and became a renown rake. When his friend, the Duke of Longley, asked him for help in righting a wrong done to a lady, Rex agreed without hesitation. Things went downhill from there as the man they were after pulled a gun and shot Rex in the gut and the Duke took him to his home.

Lady Camille Ducat is staying with the Duke & his wife (her sister) after recently breaking an engagement with a rake who tried to seduce her sister. Her Mother removed her from their family home because of the scandal to her other 3 sisters. When they bring Rex to the house and near death, Lady Camille doesn't hesitate to help and insists on sitting with him after the doctor leaves - after all her reputation is already ruined after breaking the engagement with the Viscount.

Camille finds herself quite taken with Rex but knows she can't get involved with another rake and face heartbreak again. Rex remembers waking up a hearing someone call her name "Camille" but all he saw was his Angel.

She nurses him back to health and the more time they spend together the harder it becomes for either of them to deny their feelings - but he knows he could never be a good husband to her and she knows not to lose her heart again. Can they find a way past the lies, wagers, hurts? I loved Camille's sisters and Rex titled friends revisiting in this Book 2. I highly recommend this read - you will enjoy the ride!

Meddle in a Marquess’s Affairs is the second book in the How to Reform a Rake series. A short historical romance, it is more engaging than the previous story.

A rogue’s reform can have the most unlikely beginning. When a Duke and his four friends are forced to stay at the only accommodations available in snow covered Canterbury, a brothel, because all respectable inns are full, their lives take a dramatic turn. A gypsy convinces them to tempt fate and enter a bet.

Don’t Tell a Duke You Love Him: 3 stars: Max & Lily
Meddle in a Marquess’s Affairs: 3+ stars: Rex & Camille

Reginald “Rex” Baluster, the Marquess of Highwater, grew up a street urchin in London’s notorious Docklands. He talked with his fists, was not afraid when he was wounded, and assumed his end would be as violent as his beginning.

Camille Ducat is the eldest of five sisters and, unfortunately, has no good reputation to speak of, since ending her engagement to a rake.

Rex and Camille’s attraction is sweet. Rex is a gentle giant who treats Camille so carefully and respectfully. Their intimacy develops through conversations while she nurses him back to health. Slowly they become more physical, and trusting of one another.

I recommend this book. I highly recommend this series.

I do think I loved this second book more than the first.
I was eager since I read the first chapter in the first book to read Camille and Rex story.
Because of a broken engagement and her meddling in her sister’s live story, Camille was cast out by her mother, she now resides with at her sister’s husband home, this is how she met Rex, the man who drew her name during their bet with the gipsy.
Rex was wounded while helping his friend Max, Lily’s husband, Camille’s sister, to extract revenge from the man who caused so much pain, her ex-fiancé.
It is a quick short read about two broken peoples, she is afraid to always make wrong choices that only bring hurt while he fears to be again left behind.
It was their story to get to accept some others can care for them despite their flaws and see them as worth everything.
Camille can’t stop to take care of others when Rex is running away, scared to be hurt again.
Now I wonder which sister’s story it will, I do suppose Cristina but the first chapter offered to read is about Victoria.

Swoon

In this story of Meddle in a Marquess’s Affair we have Camille and Rex. These two characters definitely complimented each other so well I just wanted Lily and Max to shove off with their ‘Stay away he’s a rake’ type speeches and just let them be because they just gravitated towards each other naturally. Camille is such a lovely person it isn’t that hard to like her. She’s caring and loving and a great big sister. Rex is a loyal friend, badass with a caring side especially towards Camille. Just like the first book their mother (AGAIN I wanted to reach through the pages and throttle her) has a few loose screws rolling around in her head trying to meddle between Camille and Rex. This book was sweet, mild then burning hot with their emotions running rampant. Swoon worthy book! Definitely looking forward to Victoria and Key especially since reading the first part of the book.

This series is just magical and makes me smile and laugh when it comes to what the men call the curse. These two are a perfect match and you know it from the moment they meet. Love hit them hard and fast and that’s what protected her from evil. I was shocked by how far her mother would go to get what she wants. But the scenes at the party were amazing!

Camille put on a strong front for her sister, but she feared she would pick another horrible man. I loved her from the start, but when she told Chase what she would have done to him, she became a favorite. She wasn’t going to do what her mother wanted no matter what.

Rex knew his heart was lost the moment he saw her. Even stuck in bed injured he could charm anyone. I loved how he didn’t bat an eye at going after Michael and was going to make him pay one way or another.

The ending with the gypsy was amazing and I can’t wait to see what happens next after that.

Some people just cannot help themselves and Camille Ducat is one of them. When Rex Baluster is carried bleeding into her brother-in-law's house, she takes it upon herself to tend to his wounds until such time as the doctor can get there. Camille doesn't know about the bet taken with the gypsy woman and walks straight into a fateful encounter with Rex. The plot, whilst somewhat suspenseful has all the makings of a good Regency romance, including a rogue who finds himself well on the way to reforming after meeting his Angel. The story is a standalone and has romance, humour and the promise of things to come. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Meddle in a Marquess’s Affairs is engrossing from the first page. The dialogue, characters, and their circumstances are interesting and engaging. I am enjoying this series which is based around five friends, who are all Rakes, five sisters, a bet, and a gypsy. You really need to read How to Reform a Rake first. It’s a very short prologue introduction to the series (it’s FREE). I also recommend that you read book 1, Don’t Tell a Duke You Love Him to get the full effect of the series. Max and Lily from that story are a big part of this story too. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this series and seeing how each of Ducat sisters handle their Rakes and how the Rakes fall for their Ducat sister. Such a fun series.

A list street urchin

In life it's true of how we envision ourselves it's our truest image or is it! Rex a Marquess still sees himself as a street urchin fighting for survival In spite of being a wealthy peer! Camille foolish choice in a future spouse still seems to have reoccurring consequences to her family members! Society deems she's ruined and one kiss from Rex makes her want to become exactly what they said she is! Rex says he will never marry but is he willing to let go of his Angel? Is Camille the spineless worm he appears and is her mother truly evil? Please read this enticing series to find out!! A delightful novella! I love this series!!!!!

The Duke and his friend Rex go out to accost Ralston. Ralston shoots Rex. Rex is brought to Lily's house to be treated for his injuries. Camille is devastated that Rex has been shot defending her honor and LIly's. Rex takes one look at her before he loses consciousness and says, "Angel". Camille is determined to care for him as she feels responsible for his injury.

The second installment in this series finds Camille Ducat living with her sister, Lily, because she is no longer welcome at home after the events of the previous book. She's convinced she will be a spinster for life, until Rex shows up, bleeding from a gunshot wound, and catches her interest.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were loveable and the plot was engaging. Make sure you read them in order; they aren't standalones like many of Tammy's other books.

Of you can ignore complete lack of knowledge of how to address aristocracy, and like books with spelling mistakes and so many wrong words. This is for you.
The book? A little unlikely, but a great little story for the second of our cursed, oops I mean tied by an unfortunate bet, gentlemen.
From the introductory novella I expected I'd like Rex best, a tortured giant, with an unusual past, meets his match with the eldest Ducat sister who believes she's unworthy of anything good in life.
As to the mother from hell? She needs a good slapping

I really enjoyed reading this short little book. Rex was my favorite character. He’s scrappy, street wise, hardened, and absolutely against matrimony but he has his reasons. Camille was a very sweet character and I was surprised at how she rose to the occasion when it came to protecting her sisters. Max and Lily round out the ensemble as her protectors, but mainly from Rex. He’s a good guy but with a shady past. Great read!

Meddle in a Marques d's Affairs

Oh this series gets more interesting by the book. This didn't have the comedy that the other book did, but this one had another element, this had the sense of responsibility. The caring of others feelings instead of just your own. This is another way that Ms Andersen makes her books appealing to readers.
