Don’t get close.

Anne Taylor has been living her life by these two simple rules since she moved to Imminence in an attempt to disappear from her previous life. She works full time for the Bounty County Public Defender’s office as a legal assistant, but she’s spent the past five years faking smiles and keeping secrets. Save for a few shallow friendships, Anne is alone and that’s just the way she needs to keep it.

Richard “Smitty” Smith is the opposite of alone. His work as a Bounty County deputy sheriff keeps him busy and lets him work with his best friend, Wesson. When he isn’t saving his beloved home town of Imminence from crime, he’s working to bring home a state football championship with the Imminence High School Iron Eagles. But now that the mysterious and beautiful Anne Taylor has come into his life, he wants more than just to work from sunup to sunset.

He’s easy on her eyes, soothing to her soul, and impossible to resist. It’s not that she doesn’t want to tell him everything.

It’s that, for Smitty’s safety, she can’t.

Will Anne’s secrets be too much to bear? Will Smitty be able to protect her from the danger she swears still lurks? Will he be able to protect his own heart in the process?

...writing alpha males and women who refuse to put up with their shit...

Maren Lee is a former bartender, current mountain woman, and contemporary erotic romance author. Her first novel, Ride-along, was written on a dare and she loved doing it so much, she decided to write a whole series based on the Bounty County Sheriff's Department hotties. Maren has no plans to stop creating this world of small town hot alpha cops and the women who love them.

Maren lives in the tiny mountain town of Atlanta, Idaho with her husband, two dog children, and two weird-ass cats. She loves all things outdoors, reading romance novels, and drinking wine (not necessarily in that order).

Detour is probably Maren Lee’s most emotional book so far. That being said it still has that comfortable small town vibe, hot and steamy romance, and perfect amount of humor that her other books all have had. Smitty and Anne are the perfect pair for each other. He is this huge dominating force, but he’s also this sweet and gentle protector. After the past she has had it’s exactly what she needs. Since coming to Imminence Anne has found that she has her own strength, and that she can stand on her own two feet, but for some reason Smitty makes her will to stay low and unnoticed a little weak.

Detour was such a good read. We get a bit of an “I’m failing at resisting you” romance between Smitty and Anne, and updates on some of the past books characters, and as always lovable Wesson is there to support his best buddy Smitty throughout the story. Yes it is emotional and at times I did tear up, but it still made me smile and laugh and in my opinion that’s the sign of a well rounded story.

There may be some triggers in this one, but the author does include a pretty detailed warning in the beginning of the book, so I would check that out prior to diving in if you have any doubts!

FANTASTIC!!! Oh my goodness, I LOVE Detour! Smitty’s love for Anne just overflows, and she adores him right back. It’s awesome to see their relationship flourish. Seeing all the characters again and interact with Anne and Smitty, marks this book as my favorite, so far, in the Bounty County Series. Can’t wait to read more!

This one is my favourite read from this author & is going into my 2019 Top Reads.

This small town full of hilarious characters feels so genuine to me that I feel like I actually know them. I loved catching up with everyone. This is definitely her funniest writing to date. The dialogue is witty, the chemistry pours from the page and though we touch on very real, tough subjects it’s done in a respectful and thoughtful way.

Anne and Rich (Smitty) are perfect for each other - their connection feels very genuine, and I have to say that Rich is going into my BBF Hall of Fame. He’s a dirty talking alpha with a heart of gold. Definitely recommend.

I received an arc of this book.

Oh Anne! You had absolutely no idea what a gem of a man you'd find when you let Smitty in to your heart, did you?

I had this feeling - from the first moment that we saw Anne Taylor - that there was a story there. A story that cut deep and scared the ever-living shit out of her. She wasn't bitchy and stand offish for no reason.

Anne had lots of reasons.

And those reasons came back to haunt her.

Detour is exactly what you would expect from the beautiful wordsmith Maren Lee if you've read any of her Bounty County series. It’s beautiful, sexy, a little dangerous, and a badass bossy matchmaker named Sierra. If you haven't, go grab Ride-along and get started. Don't worry, I'll wait…

Just kidding!

I'm not waiting to sing Smitty's praises, and you don't need to read Ride-along or any of the others first, but you'll want to when you've finished so that you can love on the men of Bounty County and the badass women who love them! I think that's the beauty of this series. Every book can stand alone, but your love for them only grows when you've met the men of Imminence, Montana. Reading the other books (even if you read them after Detour) will give a little background insight into the additional characters that pop up. Anyhow, back to the Smitty-Anne LOVE IN!

Anne has been hiding for the last five years from the world, but namely from the abusive asshole she married, Asher Levigne. There's some triggers here for anyone who's suffered through a violent relationship - so be warned, but they were handled with class and with care. For Anne to finally let her guard down a little, after living by her Stay low, Don't get close mantra for so many years was beautiful and Smitty was the perfect man for her to find!

They have a history - mainly one of Smitty trying to get her attention and failing because she just won't give in to the attraction! - and a night from when Anne first came to Imminence that will tug on your heartstrings once you read it. Hell, it breaks Smitty when he finally knows the truth! What Anne finds in Smitty is not only a loving, gentle protector but some smoking hot dirty talk! Smitty gets an A++ for the eargasm on the dirty talk (and small kink with the ropes and blindfolds *insert all the drooling yummy emojis here*)!

They have incredible chemistry and there are some smoking hot scenes to prove it!!! I especially loved the supply closet, but you should feel that fire for yourself and pick up a copy!

It's always rewarding when you read a story that has a flight risk, hurt heroine to have a hero who is there to love, support and protect her 100%. This is SMITTY in a nutshell. He doesn't want to make Anne run, he wants to take the fear that she's barely hidden from him and make it all disappear. He doesn't just want her for the moment, he spouts some incredibly romantic lines and proves with actions more than words that he will not hurt her and wants her around for the long haul. It's beautiful! <3 <3

The second best thing about Detour? THE BROMANCE!!!!

Smitty and Wesson have the bromance of the AGES!!!! Smitty has the best description for Wesson when he says:

He was fucking hilarious, both unintentionally and strategically.

I loved seeing these two together - they've been through all kinds of things together and the little danger/comic relief of Operation Thundercats is absolute perfection.

And we get the return (and set up) for Lion-O - Mr. Mountain Man - Agent Tanner Wyld who's been locked up in MSP for the last little while.

Did anyone else have Hot For Teacher running through their head reading that epilogue, or was it just me??? No? Just me? Alright, carry on then…

Favourite Lines -

You give off a total bitch vibe, but I don't believe you actually are one. And I find it sexy as fuck how you blush every time I walk in to Lane's office.

Especially Sierra, she's an extra shit jerk.

Smitty couldn't count on both hands how many Medicare quips he'd heard over the last few years or how many times he'd heard Wesson ask Ryan if he was ready for dinner at 4:30 in the afternoon.

"You're not gonna be good when your balls are too old and shriveled up to make baby Dicks, Richard."

"If I wasn't married and painfully heterosexual, I would totally make out with you."

"And now I suppose you're going to tell me that A-T-F stands for something too?" Wesson asked sarcastically as he pulled off the highway and onto a forest service road.

Smitty laughed. "Yeah, dipshit. It stands for 'ass-to-face'," he said as seriously as he could.

Any spectator watching him knew he'd found exactly what he was looking for when he smiled at Anne.

Annnnnd there go your panties.

Stay low. Don't get… oh, fuck off.

Anne was tired of not having fun.

Nobody blames you, buddy. You were caught between a rock and a hard on.

And his department had a rule: no booty on duty.

"Dammit. I was trying to be smooth."

"I'm laying here completely naked and ready for you. Trust me. I think you're pretty smooth."

"You guys are lying. It totally smells like grass and ass in this shed."

"Oh god. Is that a code word or some kind of euthanasia for sex or something?"

"How on earth did this turn from 'I'm nervous to meet your parents' to 'Wesson has a huge dick'?"

"If it's a good reason, just let guy-bons be guy-bons, man"

"This has been my ball sweat and tears since Molly was arrested."

"Holy shit, you were not lying. That man is a tree."

"If I were single, I'd climb that."

She was not at all clear on how that cat was going to be the ring bearer.

Kobe Michael was a dick.

You need to One Click this one - don't think, just buy! And while you're at it, grab the rest of the series and love up on the men of Bounty County.

Yes! Yes! Yes!
The wait has been so freaking worth my while. I can honestly say that I have been waiting to see what was going to happen with Anne and Smitty since Wesson and Molly got together.
Anne has always been a mystery to us so to be in her brain and get to know her has been awesome! She is such an emotional woman and and with everything that she has been through you can completely understand why. Yes, she puts on a bitchy personality but to see below that has been magical.
Smitty I knew I was going to love this man! He has a heart of freaking gold and lordy, does this man know how to be bossy! He has just the right amount of alpha in him that we all love but still just so freaking sweet that it makes you swoon! The bromance between Wess and Smitty was just so epic that I laughed so hard that I cried on a regular basis with these two!
This by far has been Maren's most emotional story and I can say that it is written with tact and heart and had me all over my feels for pretty much the entire book. There is enough drama that it didn't get boring at anytime and enough sexy times that you can't help but squirm and also didn't feel over done. Maren has really grown as an author and her words have just gotten better with time. I always love a trip to Bounty County and look forward to going back there soon!
This is my honest and unbiased review.

I am hooked on this standalone series and Detour has me filled with endless emotions from beginning until the very end. Anne has been through more then I can even imagine and has turned her life around while continuing to be cautious at the same time. Rich “Smitty” is a man you can’t help but swoon over. This man is caring and giving in more ways then one. Their story pulls at your heartstrings and will have you cheering them on non stop. The suspense, romance and action are blended perfectly. A must read and bump to the top of your TBR list.

Anne is trying to stay under the radar. She doesn't want to make friends or date or call attention to herself. Her one semi-social indulgence is crushing from afar on Deputy Smith, aka Smitty. He's sweet and charming and all kinds of handsome. But she doesn't want to get involved. She can't.

For a guy who can bring the intensity when it's warranted, Smitty is quite laid back. He loves living in Montana, he loves being a deputy sheriff, and he loves his life. He's got his world sorted. The one thing he can't figure out is Anne. But he wants to put in the time to do so, if she'll just open up to him.

Wesson fans!! If you adored lovable goofball Wesson from Gridlocked, he's back! He gets plenty of "screen time" in Detour, since he and Smitty have been besties since grade school. And he comes bringing plenty of shenanigans and all new Wessonisms.

Annnnnd we’re back in Bounty County!!!

Quick disclaimer; this book has some triggering aspects. Read at your own discretion.

I can not even begin to express how long it feels like I’ve been waiting for this book. And boy oh boy did Maren deliver.

Detour is book 5 in the Bounty County series and can be read as a stand-alone (but I highly recommend you read them all). This book follows Deputy Richard ‘Smitty’ Smith Jr of the Bounty Count Sherifs Office and Lane’s prickly and sassy assistant Anne Taylor.

Y’all. Y’ALL. If you’ve read any of Maren’s previous books you know the romance is even hotter than the heros. Detour is no exception and delivers.

I love how Smitty can see though Anne’s walls and doesn’t try to force the issue with her. He gives her time which is something I’ve noticed some authors tend to skip. Instead of making this an insta-love where our hero wipes away the trauma Smitty is cognizant that Anne has issues and is mindful of them.

Operation Thundercats comes to completion, babies are delivered and conceived, and there’s a wedding or two thrown in for good measure.

All in al I love this series and these characters and can’t wait for more.

This is by far the most emotional book of this series..... It has ALL THE FEELS .... Anne is so strong and courageous ... Smitty is the king of swoooooon !!!! He’s sweet, understanding, loving, kind, and dominating in all the best of ways !!!!! This one brings a different light to this incredible series ..... It’s not an easy read at times but it’s so worth it. There maybe triggers for some BUT Maren gives plenty of warning of those triggers... I have loved all these characters of this series from the beginning. Anne comes off as bitchy in the earlier books, but she’s not she’s guarded and for good reasons. What starts off as a man dying to break down the walls of a stubborn woman becomes SO MUCH MORE ..... Smitty is everyfuckinthing Anne needs and so much more .... Anne brings out instincts in Smitty he’s never had before .... It’s not the “Perfect Love Story” it’s messy and raw and hurts at times but the ending is pure and utter perfection.... Ofcoarse we get glimpses of the whole gang, Wesson (My Main) continues to make us laugh .... Sierra with her outspoken smartass mouth, lord help Brendan..... There are glimpses into everyone’s lives and we even get glimpses of new characters that Maren is gonna bring to life ...... I can’t wait for the world to fall in love with Smitty ....

This book. Gah. I've been sitting on this review for over a week now trying to come up with words that do this book justice. I'm still not sure I have them, but I'll do my best.

I was introduced to Maren Lee back in 2017 when someone suggested her Bounty County series in a Facebook group. I read the first three books in the series back to back in as many days and fell in love. I've been a fan ever since.

I've been waiting what seems like forever for this fifth book in the series and let me tell you, it was worth every minute for this return to Imminence, Montana. Detour is, in my opinion, Maren Lee's BEST BOOK TO DATE. This one is much deeper and has a more serious tone than the previous books. If you have triggers, please make sure that you read the warning at the beginning of the book. This book includes some really difficult topics.

"Stay low. Don't get too close. That had been Anne's mantra for the last five years."

Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that Anne went through some horrifying things that would break most people. She's carrying a lot of baggage and secrets and tries her best to not bring anyone else into her life because of that. She has a big heart and so much courage, it left me in awe. I love strong heroines.

"He wanted to be her barrier from the outside world, from whatever it was that was scaring her."

And Smitty! That man is definitely swoon-worthy. He's a deputy. He coaches the high school football team. And. He. Is. A. Cowboy. He's also the type of hero that I love--sweet, hot, alpha, protective, dirty--all wrapped up in a pair of Wranglers? Yes. Please. And it's worth mentioning over and over--he gets an A+ in dirty talk. Then he goes and says something like this:
"You'll be safe with me, I swear to you."
and I about melted on the spot.

I loved watching Anne and Smitty's relationship grow. Their chemistry was off the charts and had such a great mixture of hot and sweet. It was also nice to see all of the Bounty County crew again. I love he bromance between Smitty and Wesson.. Wesson and Sierra gave a lot of needed comic relief to the book. And if you have read the previous books, yes, there are plenty of new Wessonisms to keep us giggling. And, like all Maren Lee books, this one is hot enough to melt your e-reader. We also get a glimpse of a new character and a little teaser of his book, which of course, I'll be waiting not-so-patiently for. After this book, Maren Lee is really going to have to up her game--it will be hard to top this one.

While this can absolutely be read as a stand-alone, I feel like it will be enjoyed more after reading the first four books of the series.

I adore a swoon-worthy hero. Duh. As a romance reader that goes without saying. But it’s the heroines who truly make me fall in love with a story, and I’ve fallen for Anne. Hard. Her strength is quiet, hidden, steely. And so relatable to so many women that, on one level, it’s heartbreaking. But it’s also real, powerful, and every time she fought for herself and the life — and love — she wanted, I cheered out loud. Yes, Smitty is a damn sweet and hunky cop. Yes, there are laughs and intrigue and HOT times and a #girlgang you want to call your own. But it was Anne’s story that kept me reading long past bedtime. Congrats, Ms. Lee, on Detour. I’m smitten.

So happy to be back in Bounty County

Smitty is a total alpha hero, with a sweet and protective side. Anne is a fierce and bold heroine running from her past. This book has everything - hope, love, friendship, sexy times, mystery and a little suspense. I really enjoyed visiting with characters from books past as well.

Detour by Maren Lee was a wonderful addition to the already awesome Bounty County series!

A fantastic read from this AMAZING Author! I have been waiting for Smitty and Anne’s story and let me tell you... it was SO WORTH the wait!

Smitty and Anne’s story is one that will stay with me forever. Anne’s sass and Smitty’s sweetness was absolutely perfect and they balanced each other so well.

The author tackled a hard subject with such respect and beauty, while mixing it in with the lightness and humor that I love from her.

It was so nice to go back to one of my favorite Fictional Towns and see everyone. We got to catch up with everyone from Bounty County in this one and I loved it!

I HIGHLY recommend this book!

This is Book 5 in the Bounty County Series.

If you have been reading the Bounty County series you know and love Smitty and have been waiting and wondering who was going to capture this special guy's heart. Now we know that it's Anne. Quiet, prickly Anne from the DA's office. Everyone has silently wondered what her deal was and now we're finally getting the story. I'm not going to give Anne's story away other than to say that she's a survivor and an amazing woman. Anne is determined to keep Smitty at arm's length but he is one determined man and he isn't going down without a fight! When these two finally get together they're smoking hot! Detour is full of fictional fun, heat and intrigue but intertwined in it are real life issues. Now if you haven't read the rest of the B.C. series you can easily read Detour on it's own but to get the most enjoyment out of the supporting characters, I recommend reading the rest because they are so good! Detour is written from dual POV and I recommend reading it to all romantic suspense/comedy fans.

Anne and Smitty’s story was fantastic! Anne has learned the hard way to live her life quietly and without letting anyone get too close, but she didn’t count on the men and women of Bounty County. The women aren’t letting her live a lonely life, and one man in particular is willing to wait as long as it takes to make her his. Smitty proved over and over just what a great, caring, SUPER hot man he is, and that he’s nothing like what Anne is expecting.

These two had a beautifully sad beginning, during which Smitty gave Anne the hope and strength she needed to survive...before he even realized who she truly was. I loved their journey, the fact that Smitty didn’t completely lose his mind for more than a minute or two upon learning some hard truths, and their HEA was the perfect way to tie them together forever.

I can’t wait to see what happens next in Bounty County.... 💜

Stay low. Don't get close.
These are the words that Anne Taylor lives by. She has escaped from a nightmare life with an abusive husband and made her way to the small town of Imminence Montana. "Smitty", Rich Smith is determined to get close to Anne and hopes that one day, she will tell him her secrets.

This is book 5 in the Bounty County series and I think it's the best one yet. It has plenty of fun and funny moments, along with some classic Wssonisms, but it's also emotionally hard to read at times. For someone as sweet and caring as Smitty is, he certainly can turn up the alpha! The sexy times are H-O-T!

This was a solid 4.5 stars for me! I loved this book! Anne’s story is one that needs to be told. I love that while touching on a serious topic in a realistic manner, this author still gave us what we expect from the Bounty County Series- fun, heat, friendship, and love.

Anne and Smitty belonged together and I loved the growth development and fierceness of their relationship.

Lastly, the bromance between Wesson and Smitty was epic!

I highly recommend this one!

Smitty and Anne are such amazing characters. Anne is hiding from her abusive husband and Smitty spends his time trying to get a date with Anne. How do you fall in love while hiding from your real world? Can you follow in love with a police officer when it’s another police officer your hiding from? Will kink from the man you love set off triggers from the one you fear?

Haven’t read Bounty County by Maren Lee? What are you waiting for? I love this series and Smitty and Anne just stole my heart! I can’t wait for Book 6!!!

Detour, Bounty County #5, brings us back to our boys in the BC sheriff’s department. This could definitely be read as a stand alone, but it’s just a little more fun if you’ve read the first 4. All of the old gang is back and we get even more Wesson since Smitty is Wesson’s best friend. Anne is amazing and strong; resilient. But she’s running. And circling the friends group we have come to know. She is included in events because she works with Lane, but she keeps her distance. Smitty is intrigued by Anne, and he is finally able to crack the shell Anne has placed around herself. This story is funny, but has a perfect amount of suspense and all the feels. It was just the best to go back to Bounty County!

Smitty is a hot Deputy Sheriff and high school football coach. He has had a crush on Anne for a several years. Anne can’t allow herself to let her guard down or date anyone. She is still married to an extremely abusive police officer from California. She’s been in Imminence for 5 years and changed her name and social so she could blend in and keep a low profile.

Smitty is relentless and continues to ask her out any chance he gets. He finally breaks her down and she agrees to go out with him. Anne refuses to call him Smitty, even though that’s his nick name. She prefers his real name, Rich.

In this book there are several story lines. They all blend well and make the book flow together nicely. This is the 5th book in the series; however you can read as a stand-alone. I will warn you, you will probably fall in love with these couples and want to go back and read books 1-4. It’s that good.

I’ve read all the books in this series. By the end of each book I think; this is my most favorite couple. At this point I really can’t choose. We’ve been introduced to the next couple and am definitely looking forward to see how that relationship works. I received this as an ARC for my honest review with no compensation.

Anne and Smitty have a love story that doesn't stop!

Anne has a reputation for a bite worse than her resting bit@# face. She's cold, and doesn't participate with Lane and her girl crew despite Lane trying to include her every time they go out.

Deputy Richard Smith Jr is an excellent cop, head football coach for the Imminence Iron Eagles team, and an all around great guy. He wants to go out with Anne, but she keeps pushing him away.

Once Anne and Smitty finally hook up there's no stopping them, except maybe Anne's secret. And when Smitty gets half the story will he lose his mind before Anne can fill him in on what's really happened?

Smitty and Anne really touched my heart. Everything from fear to tears, and laughter for the entire Bounty County crew and the way they look after each other. Thank you Maren for writing a story that shows what domestic violence can be like, and that some of us really do find our happy ending.

Maren’s books should probably come with a steam warning. You get a two in one with this book. You get a bromance in addition to a romance. Who doesn’t love a good bromance? Smitty is so swoony. I have a love of dirty talking alpha males. If you do too then this is definitely one to check out. There are some really sweet moments also because Smitty is pretty amazing. It was great to see Anne get her confidence back, and become strong again. To be able to trust again. I love books in a series. It so fun to see what happens with the characters as life goes on. I’m already looking forward to the next one.

Detour is the next installment in the Bounty County series and this one will have you tied up and captivated right from the start. Smitty and Anne have a connection, one that gave her the confidence and strength when she needed it most. Anne’s past is confronting and one that haunts her every step of the way. Smitty will make you swoon, breathless and have you falling in love with this gentle giant. He wants to uncover her secrets, show Anne that she can trust him with not only her heart but her safety. Their story is off the charts with chemistry, passion and heat. Smitty, never would have thought you had it in you. That man is a smooth talker and fierce protector. Anne, this lady has a serious secret she's carried for five years. She's a lot snarkier that I figured, almost gives Sierra some competition. Great to have the group together, lots of babies and marriages. The tension surrounding Anne's secret had a short and sweet resolution, was looking for something a bit more frightening. But, we did meet Tanner "Mountain Man" Wyld and I assume he's the next hottie. Received an early copy and wrote my unbiased review voluntarily.

Yassssss!!!! I missed my Bounty County Boys! Can we get a real calendar of them? Ha!

Rich is my man! His heart is so beautiful...it helps that he is a sexy beast as well. Lol!

Rich and Anne as a couple are a little more tame than some of the others. That’s just fine with me because we can’t have town full of Sierra’s because it would already be in flames.

Anne’s backstory is heartbreaking. Rich is the perfect soul mate for her.

Don’t worry we get some Wessism’s in here too!

Don’t wait to jump into this book! It’s amazing!

Absolutely my favorite book of the series by far. The level of emotions you experience while reading Smitty’s story will have you laughing, crying and becoming so invested that you will not be able to put your kindle down. Definitely the most emotional story of the series. All the characters have such personality and are unforgettable. This is a must read story of love and redemption that you will remember for a long time.
