Good first book of learning to paint with watercolors, the title with "Joy" helps introduce beginners to know that painting with watercolors isn't to be a difficult struggle.

Must say here that all my art teachers since I was a child have told me that watercolors are the most difficult art medium to teach and to use. Also, I want to say that I never had formal art class, formal classroom teaching about how to paint with watercolors. Books like "Joy of Watercolor" help those wanting to learn how to paint with watercolors, its easy to ask family members, spouses, friends, for this book and also a set of watercolors with brushes as a lovely gift.

Read the book. Though whats most important is to put to work, task those watercolors, brushes, doing the exercises. You want to do anything and nearly everything with watercolors, practice over and over again. Try, and try again. Did you read all of the book? Failure is your friend in learning to understand watercolors. Work, practice, do paintings, make that watercolor set work for you.

Its OK if your family doesn't understand your results, its artwork, your creative work. Maybe they never hang your paintings, like my family never did, but you get the joy of having painted with your watercolors. Its something you could do now, put down for a time, then pick up again when you are a senior.

Having read books about how to do watercolors, painting with them from elementary school thru University graduation BFA degree, honestly, its a rewarding pursuit in life. Look, feel proud of the artwork you have to show for it.
