From New York Times bestselling author Samantha Towle comes an unexpected love story between two unlikeliest of people...

A new town. A new identity. Pregnant and alone.
And far away from a past that can never find me.

River Wild.
Moody. Sullen. Asshole.
And my new neighbor.

I have no interest in befriending River. And he definitely doesn’t want to be befriended by me.

This book is going down as my first favourite read of 2019! I was so touched by River and Carrie’s friendship... and then slowly their romance! There is a warning at the start of the book for triggers, and I would absolutely take them seriously. What both River and Carrie have lived through isn’t pretty at all. My heart bled for them... but to see them take their lives back... it was inspiring!!!

If you love a slow burn romance, this story will fill your need for that! I also adored the way these

Love is like a river, never ending as it flows but gets greater with time.

Once I picked this book up, there was no putting it down until I got to the end. RIVER WILD starts off with some very painful subject matter, and the author does add a note at the beginning of the book, warning that the situations in her story can be triggers for some readers. Know this going in! But, I have to say this story was beautiful and it would be a shame for a

DNF @70%

Sadly River Wild wasn’t the book for me. The blurb looked promising so I’m disappointed I had to DNF. I tried so hard but there’s a disconnect between me and the characters. Carrie and River slowly becomes friends and even still I felt a lack of chemistry. They were just neighbors who chatted when they met. Maybe it has something to do with the writing. I felt that a lot of Carrie’s chapters were spent inside of her head so I didn’t get that connection I wanted her to have with River and

Both MCs were survivors and I liked this side of the story.
Their pasts were tragic and I respected them for fighting back.

However and IMO the romance between them was slightly underdeveloped. He behaved like an ass for the most time and she killed him with her kindness.
The dog Buddy was adorable!

The subplot with group of vigilantes was brilliant; I wish they told us more.

What about Sadie and Marcus as the next couple? ;-)

Monsters lurk in plain sight.
They wear ordinary clothes.
Have ordinary faces.
Work ordinary jobs.
Live ordinary lives.
But the monster is always there.
Lying in wait, beneath its ordinary skin.
Waiting for its moment.
And when its moment comes.
And it breaks free.
You won't see it coming.
But I will.
And I'll be ready.

Overall Opinion: I'm strangely drawn to stories about hs that are in the run from abusive relationships, so when I saw this one I felt like I had to jump in (and if anyone has any recommendations for those type of stories -- I'm all ears!). Overall, I think it was an enjoyable read about two severely damaged characters that find peace and live in each other. I had major issues with the pacing though. The big conflict was presented super late (view spoiler) and then (k

This was amazing. I couldn't put down I read it in one sitting. I'm not a quick reader but I was hooked from the start I just had to know what was goin to happen. It started of with a bang literally. The story was so good it's a lil different to the stories this author normally does but god it was brilliant and written so well. The characters are amazing both River and Carrie's story are the same but so different at the same time. They have both had to deal with crappy situa

Domestic abuse and child abuse are not easy topics. When both are combined in a story, emotions run deep and heavy.

Carrie had to escape her life from an abusive husband when she finds herself pregnant. She assumes a new name and ends up in Texas. Her neighbor is cranky, rude and just so happens to be very handsome. But he has a secret too, River Wild is a survivor of child abuse except he’s not really surviving, he’s drowning. They are complete opposites, she is sweet and kind and he i

I am not a stranger to miss Towle works. She is one of my favorite author. When i read the blurp for River Wild, i am expecting a dark gritty, full of angst that kind of story.

However i found it short of my expectatation. The beginning of the book is promising. All of that heart breaking past for both characters. Then 30% toward the book, it becomes downhill.

The abuse topic is kept minimum and when the relationship between River and Carrie progress into romance, it was short and rush. No roman

It was an ok read. MCs were good people, they respect and support each other. But there was no spark, no chemistry and except for the few angsty moments their interactions felt childish, specially when they were trying to be playful.

I like that Samantha Towle took a risk and wrote outside a lot of people's comfort zones because by doing that, she brought together two people that just fit.

River and Carrie both have survived some awful things and each has taken on a different outlook on life. It takes Carrie coming into River's life for him to take notice...and make some necessary changes.

I loved how River was so entranced with Carrie's pregnancy...he never once shied away from anything. The car scene was hella cr

Okay, I was not prepared for this book to break my heart like it did. This story hits on a very tough subject, but then it shows us the aftermath of hard situations like that. River and Carrie both come from abusive backgrounds, and even though Carrie is the only one that physically left, they're both running away from those painful memories. Finding each other was fate and throughout their friendship they were able to grow and make a pretty great future.

This book contains sensitive material. *** Trigger warning ***
I want to start and say that the prologue of this book completely wrecked me. Not because I have personally experienced any of the events that took place but because I have an 8 year old son. I struggled to finish reading it. Towle mentions at the end that this was one of the most difficult storylines she has written. As a reader it was tough to get through certain parts.

She is pregnant from her husband who abused her. Now, she escapes from him to begin a new life.

I know I may sound heartless and I am sorry but I don't understand women who keep the child of their abuser. Won't they be a "forever reminder" of their abuser? Can't they have children later from a man they love? Isn't a life with the constant risk of her husband finding them and claiming his child more dangerous? What if he finds them and insists that he wants to be in his child's life? With a child

I really liked this one, both hero and heroine went through so much, I was in awe how heroine stayed positive after all.

They had great chemistry, why I didn't give it more is because toward the end everything resolved so quickly and frankly this book should be longer, it should be worked more on their relationship. I get why the hero was an ass but he should have given more time to show that he is not. I wanted more of his pov and how he viewed relationship. Just the ending was too rus

One of my favorite re-reads. I loved the heroine and my heart broke the hero. Yes, he was an ass but he had his reason. Heroine was kill him with kindness. She’s the better woman because if this had been me I’d have just kept it moving without giving him the time of day.
One thing tho, I wish they had more time as a couple. I wish for the author to write books about other characters like Sadie and Marcus but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. Oh well..

A slow burn romance focusing on two people who have endured more than most and so deserve to be happy. I enjoyed how Carrie never gave up on River and didn't let him get away with being a jerk when he was trying to push her away.

This had some of my favourite tropes, and did enjoy the read (putting it down after finishing), that being said the depth and emotional intensity I was hoping for didn't manifest. The issue of demodectic abuse and its consequences through Carrie were not delved

It was FULL of the same tired story lines and it seemed the author should have just stuck to the survivor book and not tried the completely unbelievable and frankly (IMHO) RIDICULOUS twist at 70%

I devoured River Wild in just a few hours today. It's a fast paced, slow burning romance that tackles some seriously heavy subject matter but it's peppered with moments of levity, humor and steam that make for a read that's both entertaining and emotional.

Both River and Carrie have endured and survived brutal abuse at the hands of people that were supposed to love them. Given that, if you're a reader that requires warnings on your books, now is the time to seek them out because this book is ful

This book held my interest from the beginning. The author did a good job putting me inside the characters heads and feeling what they were feeling.

It took me longer to warm up to the hero because he was a jerk. I hated when he ran over her groceries and never apologized.

The heroine was trying her best to become a new woman outside of her domineering husband. Her thought process's made me mad at times. Like when she went to take the money from her husbands safe. There was hundreds of thousa

I liked this story regardless the serious and sensitive issues that were raised. It had fast pace and slow burn romance. Both main characters had suffered a really difficult past, but found the strength and hope to move forward and come across the happiness they deserved.

When I decided to pick up this book, the only thing I knew was that the main character would get pregnant so I immediately thought the story was going to be light and fun.
