Crap on a cracker! Death Card was a pleasant surprise! AC Wilds is a new author for me. I throughly enjoyed this take on fae. My only complaint was it ended to quickly and with a cliffy.
I’m chomping at the bit for more ASAP.

This book did not spend enough time in the editing phase. I’ll be honest.

The amount of grammatical errors and punctuation errors bordered infuriating. And I’ll be honest, a few errors here and there are fine. But constant mistakes are kind of annoying. I wonder if there was even an editor involved.
*looks to the left, looks to the right*
I said what I said.
Oh look at me, using punctuation in a decent manner.

Besides that...
The development was wonky at best.
Everything happens in less than a week’s time but it’s done so sloppy. The important parts are rushed. What we end up reading is mainly a story about girl who finds her bonded horse and ends up taking him for spins around the (what’s it called?paddock? Pen? Idk) after quickly getting over the fact that she was abducted into a new world.
The main issue? The slavery, the fight between the Dark and the Light, is basically explained during a two page dinner. An issue she vehemently gets behind with little to no knowledge.
The mate? Happens within a day’s time. Insta-love. Gross. Sorry, but the trust wasn’t even built yet. They were just thrown together hastily. There was zero excitement or passion.

Alas, everyone was so blah.

Sorry, not gonna sugar coat it.
This was not well written.

I don’t even have witty comments, I’m that bored.

The ONLY reason I didn’t give it one star is because I surprised myself and finished the book.
*shrugs shoulders*

I just couldn’t get into this book. It seemed to just drag on and on. I also couldn’t understand the complacency of Azra for her situation. She seems to get the “feels” for guys to easily just because they are good looking, especially when the guys all seem to have questionable behavior since they are all holding her against her will. I also felt there was a little too much focus on the minor details, that aren’t really needed to tell the story, & that may have dragged it down into a lumbering slow story. The fashion & makeup were just not my thing, & I ended up skimming thru these parts. While I used to own/ride horses, and know all about the care that it takes & can appreciate the detail, because I know this stuff, I also skimmed thru those parts, I'm not sure other non-horse owner/riders would appreciate so much detail either. So it's just not my cup of tea.

At my age (approaching 60), life is way to short & my time is to important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

It's been a while since I've read a paranormal romance, but this one was highly entertaining. New to me author A.C. Wilds' writing kept me wanting more. By the end of the story I needed to find out what happens to Azra and all that she discovers on her journey.

I was truly fascinated by all the characters and the world of the Fae that Wilds' has created. This is a MUST read book if you enjoy paranormal romances. Death Card is the first book in the Changer Series by A.C. Wilds and it will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ELITE!!!

First I have to say that I do not read may books about the Fae but I will say that I am glad I gave this book a go because I LOVED it! I was so invested into this book I was reading late into the night. The characters were engaging and kept me on my toes wondering what was going to happen next. I have to say that this book is a hidden gem.

Azra is hiding and she can't escape her past. She tries to be as normal as she can be but what is normal for her she does not know. Then she finds herself in the fae world and she knows know what she must do and that is save the weak and poor from the bad guys. Bur as she is doing this she finds that she is now thrown into a life that is dangerous for her because someone wants her on their side and they will stop at nothing to get her.

This is an amazing story with twists ad turns I did not know were coming but this is a MUST READ story for all you fae lovers and even if your not give it a go.

Fascinating

Welcome to the world of Fae and man is it a doozy!! We meet Azra as she is working a waitress. Her friend begs her to go out for just one night to be her wingman. She eventually agrees but things start to go south which causes her to bust out some powers she had no clue existed. She is quickly kidnapped to the fae world being told she is the important Changer. I have to say I was quickly hooked on the story. Azra has some sass that I just loved which leads to some fascinating situations. Great twists with lots of secrets leading to a surprise ending. Great start to a new series. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars

First time author for me. Didn’t know what to expect going in. Was fearful that this was going to be a typical fae book like all the others and although it was a slow burn, around the 60 percent mark it completely lite a fire!! I was sad when it ended, dang cliffy, and cannot wait to get my hands on the next instalment

Absolutely fantastic, highly RECOMMEND! I loved, loved, loved this book! Once I started reading I could NOT put it down. This isn't your typical Fae story. Azra fights for what she believes in and doesn't back down. Red is my favorite character. The sass and snark that he produces is awesome! I can't wait to read the next one! 😆🐴❤️

3.5 rounded up

Interesting book with a new, though not wholly fresh, look at the Fae, changlings and the idea of human individuality.
Azra, original name Azreal, is a character you both love and kinda dislike (not hate). She’s rolling with the punches, but maybe a bit too easily? Everyone reacts differently and fate is a fickle thing, but some of her responses left me tepid... and confused. But I still kinda loved her. Odd, perhaps. 🤷‍♀️

Pros:
- There’s s political message, but it’s buried and only peaks through, instead of shouting it’s purpose.
- Logan. Best character, hands down.
- Red... ok, maybe HE’S the best character?
- Well edited

Cons:
- Info dumps
- Cass.... not sure about this Fae. He’s important, but.... ugh?
- Stumbling mythos. Hadn’t quite found its footing yet with world building.

I wanted to love this. AC Wilds has certainly provided a unique spin on a RH novel. There are so many out there so finding something unique is difficult. Hats off to the author for giving the reader something new: horses and tarot. I love the inclusion of these two elements in the main story line. Unique. Interesting.

However, there were other elements that made this story lacking: The story line for me was all over the place. I didn't really empathize with how Az went from a hardcore woman who thinks the world she's been thrust into a bit airy-fairy (so to speak) to suddenly embracing the world she's part of. Also, there's the insta-love element that irks me. I think that taking some time to warm to her harem mates would have been better than one minute rejecting the concept to the next openheartedly accepting she has men (among others) being part of her journey.

One other element that annoyed me was the underlying message of those who are well to do and those that aren't. This comes through with the slave element of the story. There's a political agenda here which, although I think is an important one, really slaps the reader in the face. I read to escape and this underlying political message is too real-world with me. Valid but doesn't really work in the story that AC Wilds tells, in my opinion.

I love the horse element. So unique. And I can feel the author's connection to horses in her descriptions. However, I'm sorry to say, not being a horse person, I didn't connect to that part of the story as much as I wanted to. I didn't care for the detailed sections regarding riding or brushing down etc of Red. If there'd been some other kind of meaning/a story line revelation to these sequences I might have cared more.

There's potential here. I will read the second book. However, hoping for more.

Death Card: A Reverse Harem Novel
(Changer Series Book 1)
By: A.C. Wilds 4.5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐

******** May Contain Some Spoilers ********

I will try my absolute best to keep spoilers to a minimum or completely out of my review. Sometimes it can be hard to do so.

I was completely surprised by how much I enjoyed this book 📚. A.C. writes fantastic story's as always, but this one caught me by surprise. I love 💘 the characters and how the storyline flows. Azra is a normal girl recovering from a heartbreak. Pretty much her life now is eat, work, and sleep. Her best friend/roommate (Noli) gets her to go to the local bar one night. Everything is going great until she freezes time. Azra is kidnapped and taken to the Light Court. Azra discovers she is a fae and also the changer. She has no idea what all that means. She finds a mate and a soul bonded horse 🐎 named Red. Red can also talk, which is awesome. They escape the Light Court but end up in the Dark Court. This ends in a cliffhanger with no answer from Azra about joining the Dark Court. 💜💜

Red

This book centers around Azra. When we first meet her she is a waitress who ran after having her heart broken by a now ex boyfriend. When her friend, a witchy woman named Noli, talks her into going out to a bar for the first time in two years, her life changes forever.
I thought the world was cool. The idea behind what she is and what she is meant to do was really neat. The descriptions of the characters and places allowed for the reader to imagine it without difficulty.
I loved Red and the entire concept of him. He, by far, is my favorite character. Logan was cute as well. Azra, the FMC, was great in some places but confused and irritated me in others. The whole thing with the prince for example(and I can't say more without there being mega spoilers). The guys were kinda the same. It's probably a me thing though.
Overall, I would recommend trying this book. There is some unique things in the book that I really enjoyed.

Wow!

It might be that I read a less than stellar book prior to this one, but I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!

I love Azra she is sassy and awesome and doesn’t back down from her new role. Thrown into the world of the Fae she has a ‘take-no-sh*t’ attitude which is dangerous and lovely to read.

I also really enjoyed the fact that she isn’t described as a toothpick! “First of all, my ass is not little. It’s a big voluptuous ass, and it deserves to be recognized as such.” 😍 there’s really nothing wrong with a MC that is thin/slim but it’s nice to feel represented!

We have met two of her 4 mates in this first book and I find them both swoon worthy (though only one is confirmed I felt the writing was on the wall with the other). And the addition of Logan is wonderful too, he is so full of happiness!

This book is part of a reading challenge I’m determined to complete so I have to wait to read the next in the series but it’s going to be difficult to wait!

Great job!!!

Why is it already over 😭. I turned the page and about feinted when I realized it was over.

So the plot and world are still being built but so far I love it. Azra is so strong and kickass, she gives no fucks and I loved it. I feel like I cuss all the time and it was nice reading a Mc that echoed my ‘what the fuck’ thoughts, like ‘yes girl, what the fuck he thinking’.

I’m really liking how her harem is slowly being built, it gives us time to get to know each person. And Red ❤️ I grew up around eventing and just loved all the correct terminology brings back all those fun memories. I think anyone that’s been around horses wishes they could have a horse like Red. I really recommend this to anyone that likes fantasy or even UF, you won’t be disappointed.

With an increasing amount of reverse harem books being released lately, it seems more and more difficult to find an original storyline. Death Card, unfortunately, falls prey to this issue, and it also suffers from the dreadful "fated mate = insta-love" trope. For me, these are the things that kept this from being a really great read. I found that I really enjoyed the characters and writing, and I was also really interested in some parts of the story; however, the predictable - "Oh my God, I'm some kind of prophesized all powerful and magical being, but I thought I was human" and the "Holy crap, I just met him, but I love him" - really killed it.

I'm not dying to read the next one, but I'm willing to check it out and see if it gets any better.

- I’d definitely recommend reading this book, it is so completely unique to me because I haven’t read anything like it before which makes it that much more appealing! The plot of the story is interesting and sucks you right in to this new world from the get go. The FMC is sassy and sarcastic and has you laughing along with her throughout the book. The other main characters are described and portrayed so well that you feel as if you know them personally. The whole world that is created in this book is awesome and new. Plus the romance is lovely between characters - slow to start building which makes it that much sweeter when they unite. 5 star rating from me - read it, you won’t regret it!

DEATH CARD
By A.C Wilds
4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A.C Wilds is a new to me author who has brought me back to the paranormal world of fae.

Death Card is about Azra, a fae, who was raised in the human World. She is taken from a bar in a small town, in which she fled to from the big city, to escape a cheating boyfriend. Greyson discovers her while out on a mission for the King of Light, Michael. When witnessing Azra use magic he feels she would be of importance so he takes her to the Light. She is then told that she is a fae, a changer. Keeping her there against her will she meets Cassiel, the Prince of Light. They create a bond over their love of horses.

I love how strong Azra’s character is. She is feisty and says it how it is. That’s the best type of heroine. I can’t wait to see the dynamic between Azra, Greyson and Cassiel in the next book. I’m sure it will definitely be hot and exciting!!

This books ends in a cliffhanger and makes you wonder what the heck is gonna happen next! I can’t wait to see what is in store for Azra, Cassiel and Greyson as they all have a connection. I went into this book not knowing what to expect. I was thoroughly pleased.

This was an amazing start to a series!! I expect good things from it. Azra is such a strong main character despite the pain and heartache she has experienced. This strength helps her persevere as she has all of these new life changes thrown at her. I really enjoyed all of the characters that we were introduced to in this book. All had some great character development, and I instantly fell in love with Logan. He’s such a free spirit in a world that doesn’t treat humans well. Red is another favorite and the bond he and Azra have is amazing. I can’t wait to see what happens next in this series and what other characters we will meet next!

Great start to this new series!

I haven't read anything by A.C. Wilds before and I'm so glad I did! This is a completely fresh take on the Fae, where a girl doesn't know she is the Changer until she is kidnapped and taken to the Court of Light. As this is the first book to the series there wasn't a lot of actions but the background was broken up with witty banter, a talking horse and some steamy scenes. The storyline is really solid and I can't wait to see how this series evolves. You did awesome with this book AC!

Amazing!! Definitely a must read!

Man this book was seriously good! The plot was beyond incredible, Azra is definitely one badass chick and it’s such a relief to have a strong character who speaks her mind and takes charge! My favorite part of this story is probably Red. Having a special bond with a horse is a once in a lifetime opportunity and you can tell the author knows a lot about horses! As a fellow horse person, this makes me love the book all that much more! Can’t wait for the next one to come out!

I loved it! Once I started I couldn’t put it down. A.C. Wild crafted an engaging story that is a twist on the usual fae tale.
Azra is a kick ass, sassy FMC that is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. She’s also not shy in telling those around her that she expects better.
My favourite character would have to be Red. Wise, sarcastic and egotistical. Love his snark and how he gently guides Azra even if he is not quite what you are imagining right now. I can’t wait for more

This story slowly sucked me right in. A new look at our world and how fae fit in (or don't) when they figure out that they aren't human like they've thought their whole lives. Azra, the MC is awesome, she starts of a bit unsure but as her story starts to unfold her confidence and strength increase. My favorite character was Red, a horse (but, not just a horse of course) sassier than Azra and definitely a fount of information for us readers. Can't wait to read the next one.

I'm loving A.C. Wilds new take on the different relationships among the different fae Light/Dark and the humans. I'm also highly attached to Red he is by far my favorite characters though I'm getting attatched to Cass, Logan, and Greyson as well! Warning this book is very hard to put down and once I hit the end i was like noooooooo need more!! I will definately be following this author. Great start to a new series

I really got into this world that A.C Wilds created. Azre was a great heroine and I loved the way she dealt with her situation. the idea of the horse element was unique, I think everyone needs a Red in their life. Cass is super hot and caring and was the perfect first choice for her, exactly what she needed. Grayson.... Well I'm off to download the next to find out more!

Fae are real ,and some are not so nice

azra gets kidnapped and wakes up in the sealie castle. She is the changeling. She is determined to make everyone equal. Michael , the king of seelie , wants to control her. She must escape. Who will be willing to help her? If she escapes to the unseelie court ; can she convince the queen to make changes? If you like like fairies and magic , you will love this book. It's slow burn. azra, only finds one of her harem, in book one.

The story is fairly fast paced with a good story arc and it has plenty of plot twists to keep you guessing. Great start to a new series.

I love when an author twists lore and mythology into something new, and A.C. Wilds has certainly done that here. Interesting and unique concept of the fae, and well executed. While the FMC adapts to an entirely new world incredibly fast, it is written logically and believably. The story drew me in and before I knew it, I was done. Not a lot of steam in book 1, but it is a harem that evolves throughout the series. On to book 2!

Azra thinks she is a normal human, when suddenly something strange happens when she is out with a friend. Next thing she knows she is in a new land and finding out she is Fae. I really enjoyed this story. It really keeps you wanting more. Azra doesn't take crap from anyone and immediately puts her foot down regarding her feelings about the way far live. I look forward to reading more.
