Devin Olsen explains how the techniques he has used to become a repeat medalist in fly fishing competitions around the world can be adapted to everyday fly fishing situations. He covers strategies, tactics, and flies for rivers, small streams, and still waters, allowing anyone to fish more successfully by applying the approaches taken by competitive anglers.
There is great stuff in here, particularly regarding to reading rivers, nymph rigs, and finding fish. I only wish the author didn't fixate quite so much on Euro-nymphing, which I feel is a fairly esoteric form of flyfishing in much of the US. I get that he wants to spread the gospel, but it feels a bit niche.
I've learned a lot from tactical fly fishing and the modern nymphing videos. When I saw this book was out I bought it immediately and it didn't disappoint. Along with George Daniel's book it should be on every fisherman's shelf.
Exceptional information for the advanced fisherman.
I've always hated nymphing and now I know why! This book clearly explains how to nymph, approach specific water and more! Well written, well illustrated and well worth the money and time!
Lots of good data and design specs. Case studies are good. Photos could be higher resolution on iPad kindle app. Lines on the illustrations would be an enhancement. Overall a fine book. Good companion to the videos.
This book is an awesome tool for any angler wanting to increase their fishing knowledge. I thought I was an advanced angler, but I was humbled by the amount of things I had yet to learn. Well made book and an easy recommend.
