Only Ever You,
CD Reiss created a gem of a story about friendship, strength, inspiration, hope, family and love. It was filled with so much warmth and feel-good moments that I couldn't help but fall in love with it. Sebastian was such an amazing hero that for him alone, I would be happy to re-read this story time and time again!
What did I love about this book?
💫 Sebastian. Obviously.
💫 I'm a huge fan of relationships built on years of friendship and kinship and loyalty and history. The ties that bind and all that. And this story was definitely chockfull of these things.
💫 How beautiful and vulnerable Sebastian was. How can one resist a man who allows his heart to show in everything he does?
💫 The many ways Sebastian loved Rachel. I wanted her to do more for him, but it was sweet nonetheless.
💫 The author gave an interesting twist to this story. The hero was put in a position not many writers would put him in and I loved how it was done. Someone so sexy and aware and yet... Read the book to find out all the wonderful ways Sebastian doesn't fit the norm.
💫 It was low on angst, there wasn't any unnecessary drama, and despite the heroine's tendency to be oblivious, I loved the sweetness of these characters. They were light and easy without giving me a chance to be bored with how easy everything was.
Sebastian will give you a romance to sink your teeth into. He was a 'dweeb' who blossomed into a glorious swan and will easily have you rooting for him as hard as I did. I recommend this read to anyone who loves the idea of love, the idea of fate, and who wants to be swept away by the exciting feeling of falling.

Some may think this is a modern love story but for Rachel and Sebastian it's not.
Rachel and Sebastion grew up best friends and typical best friends they stuck up for eachother. Except it was Rachel that always stuck up for Sebastion because he was small and nerdy.
Rachel and Sebastian left for college and they returned home 14 years later they saw eachother. There family loves them and is pushing them to be together but can they be together and be happy or will they do it just to make thier families happy?
I loved how Rachel was the hero in the beginning of the book but you fast forward 14 years and the roles reversed and Sebastion grows out of his nerd state and into a strong handsome man. Can these two find love or are they doomed to be friends forever?
I love CD Reiss's writing it's not only unique but she has the ability to grab you from the first line whether it be a sweet romance or a dark sexy book filled with lots of bdsm.

I have read numerous CD Reiss novels beginning with the Drazen family to her more recent Edge series but none have impacted me like "Only Ever You" has. I loved this story so much and am borderline obsessed with Sebastian. He was so charming, honest and steadfastly in love with Rachel. It has always been her for him and it was so touching watching their love story play out. I loved this story so much and never wanted it to end!
Reiss remarkably pens a lovestory between two childhood bestfriends and neighbors who make a wedding pact at sixteen years old to wed if they are single at thirty. But when the once strong, sassy and protective Rachel sees the sexy, successful and handsome Sebastian, she wonders if she is good enough for the catch that Sebastian has become.
I felt this was not only a love story between Sebastian and Rachel but a powerful story of a woman, now lost and trying to find her place in the world, reconciling who she is now against the formiddable young girl she once was. Rachel was strong and sassy but her self-doubt and feelings of inadequacy coupled with her burgeoning feelings for Sebastian created a quagmire of epic proportions. I loved how human and relatable she was and how Sebastian made it a mission to uncover the strong and self-assured woman he knew she was deep inside.
All in all, I was captivated with every word the author wrote as we watched Rachel come into her own with the help of the man that remained a constant in her life. He was her true sanctuary and with him by her side, she would always find her way home. Gahh! I loved every single think about this breathtakingly emotional story! Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula

What is this phenomenon known as Reiss?...she changes genres and tropes like a chameleon and THIS book....just made me go-Awwwwwww..... teary-eyed smiles and all!! I guess the joke is on me😀

I've read hundreds of books about alpha males who take charge of the Romance and sex and girl's a hesitant, nervous, lip biting virgin....
CD UPENDS ALL THAT!
It was so refreshing to see the guy having insecurities and be the first to admit it...
I could kiss Seb JUST FOR THAT. Nothing more adorable than a guy who's vulnerable to heartbreak.
And the lines...Omg the words CD pens, she wrote on my heart 🥰

4 Solid Stars
From the time Rachel’s family moved in across the street from Sebastian, she’s been doing her best to take care of him. When “boys will be boys” meant young Sebastian got bullied on a daily basis, Rachel always made sure she was there to diffuse the situation. When Sebastian didn’t get invited to any of the parties the popular Rachel did, she stayed home and they had their own party. So it should come as no surprise Sebastian developed a wee bit of a crush on the warrior-like teenage girl that always had his back.
A marriage contract, though? Really? Is Sebastian crazy? 14 year old Rachel’s not sure that’s such a good idea. Besides, she has plans to take over Hollywood with her kick ass screenwriting and natural talent. Thirty seems like a long way off, but a little backup plan never hurt anyone. What’s the harm in agreeing to marry her best friend if they’re both still single at thirty?
Fast forward sixteen years and as luck would have it, Sebastian and Rachel are both still single and ready to mingle, but their fates have taken very different turns. What started off as a promising enough career for Rachel, took a turn for the worse when she took time off to care for her cancer stricken mother, and she’s never managed to get that momentum going again. Her ability to pick cheating jerks for boyfriends means her love life hasn’t gone any better.
Sebastian has already had a hugely successful career by the age of thirty and finally has more confidence in himself, but his love life has been hampered by his innate insecurity and a long term evangelical girlfriend hoping he’s finally seen the light, if you catch my drift.
As luck would have it, Rachel and Sebastian are both home for christmas at the same time for the first time in ten years, right as the two have just turned thirty. And their parents found out about the wedding contract of yore. And Rachel suspects her mom’s enthusiasm over the contract has something to do with a cancer relapse and wanting to see Rachel settled. When the moms hijack the situation and start actively planning a wedding, Rachel has a hard time saying no.
This is my first (I believe) C.D. Reiss book and I really enjoyed it. The way Rachel and Sebastian reconnect after a decade apart felt exactly like it would happen in real life if you hadn’t seen your bestie in a while, but still felt that connection. Oh, and your bff is now a major hottie. And rich as sin. There’s an ease between the two, but still enough trepidation about the other to make it believable. I loved the emotional reversal of roles between the two and the fact Sebastian finally got to show Rachel how strong he could be.
I connected right away with the way C.D. Reiss writes and Rachel and Sebastian sucked me in from the get go. I loved the dialogue between the two. I loved that Rachel had no problem realizing that even though he’d grown into a sexy, successful man, he still had a lot of the awkward teenager inside. I loved Rachel, even though she didn’t always love herself, because she never completely lost her backbone. She just needed to find it again.
“I just can’t be right without you. You remind me of who I’m supposed to be. Even if I’m not that. I can accept a life where I never become the person I wanted to be, and every plan I ever made goes bad . . . as long as I’m with you. You don’t make me who I want to be. No. You make me who I’m supposed to be. Is that love?”
My only complaint is Sebastian’s lightening speed back and forth regarding Rachel. He loved her for years but didn’t count on her changing as time moved on. His expectations had him all over the place as far as the “do I or don’t I?” aspect of the story and sometimes it felt a little awkward. One minute he wanted her above anything else and the next he was wondering where his warrior went.
I’m so glad I finally (FINALLY) got the chance to read a book by this author. I know she writes some darker stuff and if that’s what you’re looking for, this aint it. Still, it’s real and the characters are wonderful. I didn’t mention the side characters but they also add so much to the story. I'm glad that even though I’d built this author up in my head, she more than exceeded my expectations.

3 Aligning Stars ⭐️
Rachel & Sebastian were besties through high school. Where Sebastian was the nerdy artist besotted with his friend; Rachel was the protector.
In a moment of wistful future planning, these two teens settled on a back up plan. A marriage contract in the event they were both still single at 30.
Merry Christmas, Rachel!

Remember we had a deal? I moved back from Silicon Valley. I’ll be on Mandarin Lane for Christmas. Hope to see you then.

Rachel in all her studious and ambitious glory never expected to be at the bottom of the career ladder in her field, struggling and single. On the flip side, Sebastian, former geek has accomplished more then most. But now 30, he’s back to collect on the deal...
Where Sebastian is ready to ‘get the girl ‘, Rachel has serious reservations. Firstly, which sane person marries their best friend they haven’t seen in over 10 years? Second, both parents are already planning the wedding. But the truth is, she just doesn’t believe she’s worthy....
”I mean, I’m not marriage material, and the odds are that’s never going to change.”
Only Ever You is a friends to lovers romance with a twist. I loved the premise of this story BUT I struggled with it. This had so many great elements to it, a cute couple, crazy families and of course a marriage pact. Unfortunately it was just slow and uneventful. The heroine’s insecurities and the hero’s lack of backbone did my head in. Ultimately it was the lack of chemistry that disappointed me the most.

Rachel Rendell just turned 30, and feels she has nothing to show for it. It’s like everything in her life is one big joke, and nothing has gone according to plan. She thought her life would take a certain path with college, career, love, marriage, and then children. Instead all she feels she’s accomplished is heartbreak and disappointment. Then a blast from the past shows back up in her life, and things suddenly get interesting.
Rachel hasn’t seen Sebastian Barton in ten years since they went to different colleges, and time and distance got in the way of their friendship. They’d been neighbors in San Diego, and high school best friends. He’d been the nerdy artist kid, and she’d defended him against the class bullies.
Sebastian must have been a late bloomer, because the vulnerable, weak boy she remembered was now a strong, successful, wealthy, confident, gorgeous man. He was still kind, loyal, intelligent, and wearing grandpa cardigans, but now he also had bulging biceps, and looked like a model on a GQ cover. She was so attracted to him she could hardly be in the same room with him without swooning, and could quickly develop a king size crush on him if she wasn’t careful.
Sebastian never forgot Rachel or the way she made him feel. Growing up she was always his fierce warrior coming to his rescue. He’d been infatuated with her back then, when he was the school dork, and she was his only friend. She was still breathtakingly beautiful, and he would like the chance to date her.
Then their parents come across their childhood marriage contract, and things turn complicated when they decide to play matchmaker. Seb & Rachel once agreed to be each other’s back up plan. They made a pact at age 16 to marry each other if they reach 30 and are still single. They were never serious, but their families run with the idea, and start planning, even going so far as to set a date. Worrying that Rachel’s mom may be ill, they allow it, and play along. As they spend time together again Rachel can truly be herself with Seb, and he realizes she still feels like home to him after all these years. As they are still discovering who they are and how they fit together things turn very real as they begin falling for one another.
-She got me. She'd always understood me.
-She made me feel like a smitten kid. She was an ache I'd never cured.
-Every day, I reminded her of who she was. Every layer she shed revealed a little more of the girl I'd loved.
Only Ever You by CD Reiss is a heartwarming friends to lovers romance that will captivate you. First I must say I LOVE sexy nerds, and then throw in a dirty talking, delicious, dreamy man with a heart of gold. Sold, sold, and swooning hard! Rachel Rendell just turned 30, and feels she has nothing to show for it. It’s like everything in her life is one big joke, and nothing has gone according to plan. She thought her life would take a certain path with college, career, love, marriage, and then children. Instead all she feels she’s accomplished is heartbreak and disappointment. Then a blast from the past shows back up in her life, and things suddenly get interesting.

Sebastian never forgot Rachel or the way she made him feel. Growing up she was always his fierce warrior coming to his rescue. He’d been infatuated with her back then, when he was the school dork, and she was his only friend. She was still breathtakingly beautiful, and he would like the chance to date her.
Then their parents come across their childhood marriage contract, and things turn complicated when they decide to play matchmaker. Seb & Rachel once agreed to be each other’s back up plan. They made a pact at age 16 to marry each other if they reach 30 and are still single. They were never serious, but their families run with the idea, and start planning, even going so far as to set a date. Worrying that Rachel’s mom may be ill, they allow it, and play along. As they spend time together again Rachel can truly be herself with Seb, and he realizes she still feels like home to him after all these years. As they are still discovering who they are and how they fit together things turn very real as they begin falling for one another.

Sweet, Funny, Light, Heartfelt, Endearing.......those are words came to mind when I finished Only Ever You. It put me in a happy place because it was such a feel good read. A second chance romance starting with best friends from high school who lived across a street from one another who signed a quirky contract to get married if neither were married by the age of 30. Fast forward to age 30 and you can guess, no one is married.
Sebastian, the former dweeb, who use to have Rachel sticking up for him has turned into a sexy, well built, confident man who is now very successful. Rachel, the former sassy, confident beautiful girl has turned into still beautiful but an insecure and doubtful woman who has become a screenwriter. And when these two reconnect with one another, their friendship blossoms once again. But because they are friends and made a contact, should they get married? Well their parents think so and so the wedding plans begin. But Rachel and Sebastian decide that they will play along because Rachel’s mom needs some happiness Rachel thinks. So pretending it is until pretending turns into something else.
I will say that this story was sweet. It has low angst level, humor, and tender moments. Grown up Rachel was bothersome at times but haven’t we all had those times. Sebastian was an inspiring hero. Nerds do grow up and surprise us. Both sets of families were perfectly endearing to the story and were really the driving force in getting Sebastian and Rachel to discover their feelings for one another.
Not every book you reads needs to be deep and angsty. A feel good book is one that makes you smile and feel it. And while I’m an epilogue junkie, this epilogue perfectly surpassed all my expectations. It elevated my feelings for this book to 5 stars.
A great summer read to Put you in your happy place!!

Only Ever You
Sebastian and Rachel’s story is well written and engaging. It’s a super sweet second chance romance.
Here’s what I enjoyed:
The fake fiancé trope is one of my favorites. The reason behind the unplanned engagement was a good one.
The relationship progression was fun to watch. I thoroughly enjoyed Sebastion’s character over the course of the novel. He’s such a great hero. Steadfast, sexy, put together, and totally in love with his girl.
This author’s writing is always stellar. Clean and concise. Her books are always well planned and put together.
Unfortunately, I didn’t fall for the heroine. Her insecurities were just a bit too much, but other than that, this was a sweet entertaining read.

The friends to lovers trope is always a tough one for me to enjoy. I may be a tad too critical when it comes to this trope but I either love it or just can't stand it.
Only Ever You can only be described as beautiful. I really enjoyed this so much! I loved the characters ... I am head over heels in love with Sebastian (Normally I love alpha males but there is something about him that just draws me).
To be honest, I've read only two other books by CD Reiss so compared to those, Only Ever You was honestly pretty tame but I didn't mind. I actually enjoyed it.

4 Recognizing It's Real Stars

C.D.Reiss is not a one-trick pony. Anyone who reads her work should be very aware of this. She has written extremely raw, intense, erotic work. Every single one of those stories has been layered with intricate insights into the characters and plots. Even during the darkest stories, Reiss will throw in sly humor appropriate to the situation. So it could become easy to think heavy erotic when you think of C.D. Reiss... and you would be right...
But you would also miss another part of the Reiss catalog.
Reiss has always played with another side of romance, a tract not as openly intense, a more stealthy way of getting to the core of what makes characters be who they are, what they need and how they can find "their person".
Only Ever You is one of those intricate and revealing books. It is the type of read which will start out and little by little grab you and never let go. You will be taken in by the humor, the realness of it all...for how many of us out there thought we knew what our lives were going to be...had it all figured out, only to be smacked with the reality of current times blowing everything up.
Yes, this story has everything you could want in a romance and then it feels like there is a little bit more...like the author may have put a bit of herself on this page...Where some of the backstories match the known facts adding to the enjoyment.

I loved Reiss's Songs of Submission series. And I mean I L-O-V-E-D it. It's been a while since I read it but I remember being completely engrossed in the story, the writing, the characters.
Which is why I'm pretty baffled right now. And I'm finding it hard to believe that this book was supposed to be written by the same author.
It felt incredibly unpolished, the writing was disjointed and strangely paced, the dialogues were confusing - just like many other reviewers, I often didn't even know who was speaking.
And while there really wasn't anything wrong with the characters (in another book, I might've even enjoyed them), they didn't manage to make up for the rather lackluster plot or the above mentioned writing flaws. I just didn't care that much about them or their love story.
I was ecstatic when I got the approval for this ARC. I'm a huge sucker for the friends-to-lovers trope, and C.D. Reiss had a big hand in introducing me to the romance genre all those years back.
I don't know, maybe I'm being unfair, maybe my expectations were just too freaking high to live up to. And maybe I'll reconsider my rating once I'm over my disappointment.
For now, however... 2 stars, sorry.

ONLY EVER YOU by C.D. Reiss is a new contemporary romance not like any previous books I have read from this author. I think dark, erotic and intense usually when I see this author’s name, but this romance is different. Sebastian and Rachel’s story is lighter, full of family, hope and love. The angst and steamy is still there, but not as often and with a twist.
When Sebastian was in school, he was a stick thin, nerd who was bullied.
Then a beautiful girl named Rachel moved in across the lane. She became his best friend. She defended him and included him.
As they plan their futures, they decide on a back-up plan and write a marriage contract stating if both are single when they turn thirty years old, they will marry each other.
The future happens and it does not always go as planned. Rachel and Sebastian are both home for Christmas. Sebastian has become an extremely successful and gorgeous man. Rachel is still struggling in her career and has dated a string of losers. Nothing has gone as she planned, but she also would not have changed the time she put her career on hold to help her mother through her cancer.
Are they really going to go through with their marriage contract?
This is a very entertaining friends to lovers contemporary romance. Sebastian is a hero we all love to cheer for. The dweeb to heart-throb, smart to successful, but no matter the success, he is still very vulnerable. Rachel was strong as a young girl, but she let fear and the wrong men make her doubt herself to the point of losing her confidence in herself. As the two reunite, they learn how they are still alike, but also different. This is a cute couple with crazy family members and friends that love them and only want them to be happy. The sex scenes occur towards the end of the book and there is a very interesting twist involved, especially from this author.
This is one of those feel good, fun romances to enjoy curled up on your favorite chair.

I really this enjoyed this light romance from C.D. Reiss for whom I know typically does darker stories of love. This one was fun. It encompasses several tropes of the genre and does so in a uniquely engaging way through the toggling back and forth between the cynicism of the heroine and the effervescence of the hero. Only Ever You is part friends-to-lovers, part time hop, part fake marriage, part teenage marriage pact, part meddling families. There are several themes throughout the book that touch on the heavy making it more real and poignant but the lightness of this story makes it enjoyable, fast paced, and charming.
Sebastian Barton and Rachel Rendell were quick friends when the Rendells moved in across the street as teenagers. Rachel protected the sensitive, unassuming Sebastian and was his only friend. He held a torch for her throughout their friendship unbeknownst to Rachel. The two lost touch after college and plans that were made, as they often do, went awry and their lives were completely different then how they envisioned them going. Fast forward to years later and their thrust back into each others path remembering the aforementioned marriage pact and how it could benefit their lives now.
C.D. Reiss utilizes her signature style of writing in Only Ever You. Her flow of story telling grabs your attention from the onset and keeps you in tune to her characters throughout. She encompasses feeling vulnerable, emotional, light-hearted, cynical, and overwhelmed so well with her writing. This is a great, easy, romantic read with a great story of friendship and growth with a killer epilogue too.

I've read this author before and enjoyed the experience. My previous experience was a.darker read, so was interested in how this author would do with a more mainstream work. Not terribly well, my opinion. Concept was good, but execution didn't work for me. Bored me silly.

I just finished and let me tell you... this story pulls at alllllll the heartstrings without being unnecessarily angsty. Also, it's beautiful and a little sexy and has lots of chemistry. It's also a favorite trope of mine: friends to lovers.
The friendship and chemistry between Sebastian and Rachel is nearly unbreakable. I say nearly because of insecurities along the way. The way Sebastian carried a torch for Rachel as long as he did just made my heart melt.
An important plot point, which I refuse to reveal to avoid spoilers, is something I don't think I've ever read.
I loved the characters. There were moments where I wanted to push Rachel into doing more and feeling more secure, but it had to happen at a certain pace. Sebastian, though, total heartthrob. Sounds cliché, but he's smart, and kind, and sensitive, and thoughtful. All without seeming emasculated. Plus, I have a thing for nerdy guys.
The major supporting characters were great too. You can see how the family members contribute to the H/h's personalities.
Definitely a great summer read with heart!

Rachel and Sebastian made me smile through out this story. They were both people and they were loved by their respective families.
The pace of their love story was great. It wasn’t rushed, rather layer after layer peeled away until they were forced to lay it all bare to each other.
It was interesting how life beat Rachel’s independence and self trust out of her while Sebastian found his strength as he grew. Through it all, I’m glad they had each other’s back.

If you don't fall head over heels over this story by the time you hit Chapter 3 then not to be judgy, but you might need help ;) lol
There is so much goodness in this story! Okay so first I should tell you I read this twice. The story is filled with so many little pockets of heart, you just cannot get them all in in one pass LOL Plus, I read it first a gazillion years ago and I just wanted to read a happy story again LOL I swear, my heart sang even more the second time around.
I want to say that this is a second chance romance or friends to lovers story but that isn't quite right in my head because these two were already in love before they even knew what love was and THAT is the best part of this book. Watching/reading Rachel metamorphosize (is that even a word? lol) her feelings about Sebastian was a thing of beauty. It's like that feeling when you're thinking about a word and it's right there on the tip of your tongue but you just can't quite get it. That's what it felt like reading Rachel transform, because that's exactly what was happening! It was glorious.
The trope of this story is not anything most of us have not read before but the unfolding of the story was extraordinary for me. I was so damn happy for these two it was ridiculous. And that feeling was brought out of me because this author has a unique way of doing that. It doesn't matter what she writes, I am pulled into the story and I do not just merely read it, I experience it. It's powerful and unique. And she can do it across the board with any trope/genre she writes.
This story should not have been what I call edgy, but it was! Not in the dark way we tend to think of the word, but more in the anticipation of the story line. I was caught up in everything that was happening. It's like I became Rachel and I couldn't wait for the next ah ha moment or shoe to drop moment in the delightful transformation that was Rachel's feeling.
I cannot say this enough times. This author can bring it no matter what she writes. With this story, your heart will soar! I promise you that!

CD Reiss is a very versatile writer. I sometimes forget that she can do romantic fluffy as well as she does heart stopping angst.

Only Ever You is a change of pace for CD Reiss. It is sweet and endearing, and these two characters are just endearing on every single level.
Rachel and Sebastian are friends from a young age, and the moments in their youth establish the sweet relationship that develops for them throughout the story. Although Seb grows up to be a hunk of man, I still felt as though CD Reiss kept who he was in tact. She didn't make him the arrogant playboy out to get revenge on people who bullied him, but she showed us a kind and gentle hero who respected woman.
Rachel was a bit lost in this book, and it sounds cliche to say she found herself in Seb but she kind of did. He didn't change her, she didn't change for him, but he reminded her of the girl she was and the dreams she had. That was a fantastic component to their story.
There were elements of the plot, which I won't reveal for spoiler reasons, that I wasn't expecting, and I enjoyed how they added not only to the characterization of the H/h but also acted as an impetus for the relationship and the plot of the story. The conflict is pretty expected and the resolution while being an epic grand gesture still has this low key vibe to it. The epilogue was actually really great, too. It really drove home the themes of the novel.
The sweet switch up from CD Reiss was refreshing. I love to see this author stop outside her typical darker and grittier novels. It truly shows the range of her writing capabilities, and most readers are going to fall in love with Seb and Rachel's journey.

Rachel and Sebastian are friends from a young age, and the moments in their youth establish the sweet relationship that develops for them throughout the story. Although Seb grows up to be a hunk of man, I still felt as though CD Reiss kept who he was in tact. She didn't make him the arrogant playboy out to get revenge on people who bullied him, but she showed us a kind and gentle hero who respected woman.
Rachel was a bit lost in this book, and it sounds cliche to say she found herself in Seb but she kind of did. He didn't change her, she didn't change for him, but he reminded her of the girl she was and the dreams she had. That was a fantastic component to their story.
There were elements of the plot, which I won't reveal for spoiler reasons, that I wasn't expecting, and I enjoyed how they added not only to the characterization of the H/h but also acted as an impetus for the relationship and the plot of the story. The conflict is pretty expected and the resolution while being an epic grand gesture still has this low key vibe to it. The epilogue was actually really great, too. It really drove home the themes of the novel.
The sweet switch up from CD Reiss was refreshing. I love to see this author stop outside her typical darker and grittier novels. It truly shows the range of her writing capabilities, and most readers are going to fall in love with Seb and Rachel's journey.

This was a sweet story of childhood best friends & a pact they make that changes the course of their life. Sebastian and Rachel are joined at the hip until growing up separates them as is often the case. Reunited ten years later at a very difficult time in her life Sebastian is again the best friend she needs. But then he become more. I loved their ease with each other, their genuine affection and their eventual chemistry. Sebastian is a great BBF and he ticked all my boxes. I will definitely be recommending this one to friends.

3.5 STARS!
I LOVE the childhood to something more romance troupe... the marriage pact made as young kids... there is just something so special about meeting your person at a young age and knowing that they are meant to be someone more in your life in the future.
Sebastian and Rachel grew up as neighbors and best friends. Sebastian was the lovable nerd who was bullied while Rachel was the smart mouth strong one who protected and stood up for her best friend. She was his hero and he loved her in every sense of the word.
Fast forward years later and they haven't seen each other in some time until the Christmas that she comes home and he's there... in her space... and absolutely gorgeous and the complete 360 of who he was when he was younger. But she has changed too... no longer fiercely strong and independent but almost a shell of herself, with insecurities, and not having successfully checked off her life list of things she had wanted to accomplish by this stage in her life, she was just so different from who I thought she would grow up to be.
Sebastian was just IT for me... I love the nerd turned confident turned successfully rich... cocky in a way but oh so completely sexy. I was sad for Rachel... sad that she seemed to lose her sense of self along the way because of her mother's illness and her career taking a backseat but also because of her career and where she wanted to be in life.
I LOVE the whole fake fiancé storyline but while I felt like Sebastian was ALL IN, I was sad that Rachel just did not seem to be at all... I understand her wanting to go into the fake marriage for appearances sake for her reasons but it just felt selfish when you could literally feel that Sebastian was so true and goodhearted. Maybe that was the point... but it hurt my heart nonetheless because I wanted to FEEL their connection and chemistry and I was just missing that aspect. And I have read a bunch of Reiss's books and I KNOW she can right some pretty darn good chemistry.
I enjoyed the ending and how Sebastian always comes through with the romance and of course the peek into their future which was bliss...
I just wished I loved this book more because I was so excited for it... It was definitely a good read but not Reiss's best. I look forward to reading more from her.

This was pretty tame for C.D. Reiss. It was more of a light read but with some heavy subjects still. It was a balance that was pulled off well.
At first I thought this might be a little too tame, but then you get pieces here and there that would jump out and pull at you. I liked those little bits of surprise. It had a way of making me care more about Rachel and Sebastian.
These two seemed almost flipped. Sebastian had characteristic you usually see in a heroine and vice versa for Rachel. I would normally say that wouldn't be for me, and yet it worked. It made their story unique in a common theme.
I'm a sucker for a good ending and this ended in a perfect way. We got to see an epilogue a few years later and it was beautiful.

4 "happily ever after" stars....
Well, I must say that was a little bit of a surprise. Only Ever You was a sweet friends to lovers book. Sebastian and Rachel had been friends since they were young. When they were sixteen, they made a pact and drew up a marriage contract that would go into effect if they were still unmarried at age 30.
As the book begins, Sebastian and Rachel are both now thirty years old and their parents want for them to follow through with their marriage contract. The storyline progresses with how they decides to proceed with their future. They are so perfectly matched but don't necessarily realize it. Sebastian has loved Rachel for as long as he can remember. Rachel is afraid to love again because she's been hurt so much. She knows she's definitely attracted to Sebastian but they both overthink things and get in their own way in trying to make a relationship work.
I really did enjoy Only Ever You. CD Reiss did give the reader a few surprises in this read. I won't elaborate on those because I don't want to spoil anything. Well, this story took me by surprise. Friends to lovers … well, almost. Nerd to hunk … definitely. Confident, smart and sassy to unsure, smart and sassy … yea, that usually doesn’t happen. But, C.D Reiss made it happen and it was wonderful watching the transformation back to Superwoman.
Seb and Rachel were wonderful! Full of life … most of the time. Busy … all of the time. In love … well, not so much. Determined to make things happen so make her mother happy, yes, Rachel was definitely that. Of course, she would need the help of Sebastian to make that happen and he was all to willing to go along with her plan. That is, until he figured out that he never fell out of love with the one woman who stood by his side, defended him and was his personal hero. Then, the second thoughts came in and he had to figure out just how to open the second door. When it was opened, exactly what he thought would happen, happened.
I loved this story from beginning to end. From the marriage pact to the tarot card reading mother to the first door and definitely to the second door. Yes, you have to read this fabulous story to see what’s exactly behind the doors and what they mean to the story, Sebastian and Rachel. The doors may hold surprises but they are a great ones that will have you smiling and a little shocked.

The friendships you make as a young child at school are often the ones that stay with you forever. Even if you don’t keep in touch after you leave, the memories can often last a lifetime. For some people though, school can be a tough place to be. Sebastian knows this only too well. From the moment he started at his new school he was teased and bullied by people who should have known better. Only one person stood up for him and did their best to keep him safe, his neighbour and soon to be best friend Rachel.
Rachel lived across the street from Seb and it would be fair to say that it was love at first sight for him at 11 years old. He was completely enamoured with the beautiful girl who saved him numerous times. She never looked at him in the same way though, even right through high school he was the geeky, scrawny boy he had always been. Before they both left for their separate colleges they made a pact, a written contract in fact, that if they were both still single when they turned 30 years old they would marry each other.
And now it is 11 years later… Seb has just turned 30 and Rachel is 29 years old – they are both single. They haven’t seen each other for 10 years and Christmas at Rachel’s family home is about to bring them back together. Rachel looks just the same to Seb, even more beautiful than he remembers. The same can not be said about Seb though. He looks nothing like Rachel remembers, he is tall, handsome, has muscles in all the right places, long eyelashes and is drop dead gorgeous. She is pretty much speechless, letting hormones take over her thinking. He has blossomed into a very fine looking man.
When their parents whip out the ‘contract’ from all those years ago they get bulldozed into agreeing to marry each other. There are other reasons for agreeing to this ridiculous idea but none of them have to do with being in love or a relationship. It is obvious that Seb is still hopelessly in love with Rachel. He still feels unworthy of her, even with even he has achieved in his life so far. If anything, Rachel she feels like she is not good enough for him. He has his life together while hers seems to be a daily struggle.
‘I am who I am because of you.’ ‘You were always strong, Seb. You just didn’t know it.’
As the wedding date looms, they are torn between doing what is right for them and right for the people they love. I couldn’t help being swept up in this wonderful and heartwarming love story filled with so much vulnerability and a pinch of innocence. Another fabulous read from this talented author.
