Chronicles of the Light, book one…

Bodies keep piling up, but Kaitlin O'Malley refuses to back down, even when threatened by someone once worshipped as a god. Training for a battle between good and evil, she teams up with the Dragon King and a powerful lion, and finds herself protected by a Master Vampire who wants her in his bed.

With a vile enemy ready to destroy her, the men in her life lock her up to keep her safe, but Kaitlin will never let other people fight her battles. She’ll have to break free and venture out on her own, wielding a powerful weapon to protect herself — a weapon her enemies would kill for. To face the enemy alone, Kaitlin must view the world in an Unhuman Light.

In a supernatural battle of magic and strength, can an unlikely human prevail?

Epic paranormal romance. Very well written. The heroine, Kaitlin O'Malley is interesting and bad-a$$. I loved the setting which is Chattanooga, TN. Now I want to go there and check out the locations mentioned in the book. There is so much exciting action and romance. The book held my attention throughout. I really enjoyed this story and would absolutely share it with my teenage granddaughter. Ms. Stoneheart is a great writer. Grammar and editing were near perfect. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

My English review

I must admit that I was intrigued when I discovered the synopsis of this novel and I was curious to get into the story. I was quite surprised first of all by the number of pages because the book is thick enough and I was afraid that it would drag a little bit in length. However, it’s not the case and I really had a good time with the story.

Kaitlin is a young mother who will do anything for her daughter. Human like the others? Not quite no, because she has powers that many will envy her. But these powers also attract the attention of many very dangerous people and our heroine will have to make important choices!

I had a really good time with Kaitlin. This young woman is a psychologist who, in the evening, fights the evil forces but she will attract the attention of vampires and other creatures, some very charming and I loved seeing them all interact together. Our heroine will find herself embarked on a story that totally exceeds her and which will allow her to discover a world of which she knew very little.

Because of its length, the author allows us to really understand how this universe works and I found it really fascinating! I can’t wait to see Nathan, Aaron, Abbott, Randal and all the others again! I’m sure the author has a lot of things in store for us to do next! I can’t wait!

I’ve always been an Urban Fantasy fan although for the past few years I’ve stuck with the romance genres. But, Unhuman Light had all my favorite paranormal/fantasy elements, so I couldn’t pass it up.

Unhuman Light is definitely pure Urban Fantasy but there was a touch of romance involved. I just wish it hadn’t faded to black with such an intriguing little conversation afterward. It’s good there was plenty of action of the other kind to keep me happy.

Kaitlin is a therapist by day, but the unique powers she wields mean she is exceedingly good at fighting supernatural bad guys, especially demons. Unfortunately, her particular skill is causing an unbalance to the system that has gained her attention she does not need.

Kaitlin was super cautious and took into account all the pros and cons of not only who she befriended but also every step she made. I loved this in some ways, but in others it made her feel almost cold about certain things.

I know this wasn’t a romance and Kaitlin and her super sexy vampire weren’t a serious couple, but I think the fade to black thing was a missed opportunity to inject more emotion and feeling into the story. That being said, this didn’t ruin the book for me at all, I still really liked it.

With vampires and shifters of all kinds, the action I adore, and the fascinating supernatural politics so I was in my fantasy happy place. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Kaitlin O'Malley brings a whole new meaning to "finding yourself", and I'm not certain the reluctant heroine of the story had any idea how this common human exercise would ultimately contribute to her uncommonly eventful existence.

This is jam-packed UF at its really fine and uber-engaging best. Apparently, our meagre little world fairly reeks of supernatural powers. Always, there is the push-and-pull of good versus evil, but what's good? And where is the evil? And who and what should be trusted when you're a mere mortal? Okay, perhaps "mere" is a tad understated, but what a jigsaw we are introduced to through an intriguing cast of characters who are a mystery wrapped in an enigma.

Fortunately the heroine is one who can think on her feet, fight like a trojan, and harness her fears in a crisis. And lordy, crises abound. And blessed be: the ending, while a definite to-be-continued, is about as far from the dreaded cliffy as you can get. Suffice it to say, this reader appreciates the anticipation...*with* breathing room!

A vegan human who fights demons, defies vampires, god-like beings yet cries after killing the bad guys... how exactly does this work? Quite well! This new series is intriguing and contains all the elements of rich and meaty urban fantasy.

Recommendation

Recommend this urban fantasy to readers who enjoy strong female leads who are not afraid to buck the system. Fans of Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews will enjoy this new series by new author, Ms. Stoneheart.

Characters

The characters in this book are intense and stand out. Each supporting cast to Kaitlin is unique and demands their own attention and adoration. Powerful men working together to teach, protect and support a female is a heady fantasy. When said female can take care of herself and return the favor, it is even better. What is also interesting is that there are other females in this story who are friends of Kaitlin and support her. One of them, Cora is a strong werewolf and her relationship with Kaitlin is of genuine friendship. This is key because so many books have lead female characters who horde all the males and have catty backstabbing frenemies. It is a pleasure to read a book where it flies contrary to the current drivel peddled to women.

Things I liked
✓ Alpha males
✓ Complex lead character
✓ Demons
✓ Shifters
✓ Strong friendship with other women
✓ Strong protagonist
✓ Strong supporting characters
✓ Vampires

World building

Set in the Tennessee, by day, Kaitlin O'Malley is a therapist helping people work through their problems. By night and as a "hobby" she fights demons kidnapping women. She freelances as a demon fighter for her friend Aaron Drake who happens to be a dragon shifter. With her toes dangling into the supernatural waters, it is to be expected the monsters will grab her toes and drag her in their world.

This first book seems to be setting up the world and characters. There are vampires, demons, shifters and other beings. Coming from Kaitlin's point of view, it is a bit overwhelming because she is only human. Well, a human with a little extra kick. This supernatural world is vast with many different alliances that are unknown to Kaitlin. The reader follows along with Kaitlin trying to figure out who is allied with whom and what kind of other supernatural groups exist. It's exciting and daunting at the same time. Seeing a little glimpse of the Fae world promises more fun to come.

Action/Plot

The amount of action and reveals in this book is surprising. Usually, authors give a little taste of their world to hook a read in. The books usually cover only a few days events or less. In this one, it feels like weeks have been condensed into days. And yet years are explained as past history or flash backs to decades or centuries are distilled in just a few pages. It is impressive how fluid the time is in this story and how much group is covered. Just as the reader expects the book to end, it continues on. Then when the book ends, it feels as if the length is not enough. The book concludes well and creates a desire to see what will happen next.

Unhuman Light is a spectacularly exciting urban fantasy romance that holds readers spellbound from the very first page to the last. The characters are strong, bold and fascinating which easily draws reader into their story and readers can easily connect with these characters, understand their motivations and fall in love with them. The characters are lifelike and in no way perfect which makes all their actions seem realistic and full of depth. Kaitlin is a wonderfully, enthusiastic and energetic heroine that has an appealing personality (although she may appear to be a bit too good to be true, at times) and while she may be human, she is full of special gifts that make things interesting and exciting. And while this story is just the beginning for her, the romance part is already heating up as a master vampire and a couple of alpha males compete for her attention.

The story is fast paced and quite informative giving background and explanations along the way but in such a way that it all fits and keeps things exciting. There is certainly no way to be bored when reading this story as it continuously has something thrilling, suspenseful or intriguing going on with lots of surprising twists and turns that readers won’t want to miss a second of. Magical battles, supernatural politics and beings that have been worshiped as gods abound throughout this story also adding to all the excitement and secrets add to the suspense ensuring that readers will come back for more of this supernatural battle of magic and strength.

Amazing paranormal fantasy with a lot of suspense.
Kaitlin is one special human, helping police solve mysterious killings. She is a strong character and I liked her a lot. She is determined, righteous, smart and good looking. She is not afraid of the enemy and she even stands alone against him.
There are different species fighting evil, the balance between the good and the bad is disturbed and the outcome is in question. There is a lot of going on and Kaitlin is in the center of it. Her path to finding herself brought a lot of benefits for all of them.
The story is intense and the tension is real. The main characters are great and the plot is fantastic.
I would recommend this to the readers who enjoy paranormal and urban fantasy with a lot of suspense.

Kaitlin O'Mally is a no nonsense believer in protecting her own and fighting evil. She is the mother that believes in protecting her daughter no matter what. Kaitlyn in coming into gifts that she doesn't understand she steadfastly proclaims she in human. She leans on her friends who also may or may not be supernatural. She is learning not all is as it appears sometimes. This story is action-packed and keeps you drawn into the story. I have to say I like Ms. Stoneheart's work and hope to check out more.

Unhuman Light is the first in a urban fantasy series. Kaitlin O'Malley is a therapist by day and a protector against evil by night, She is human but has skills that have the supernatural community wondering. This is a fun series with a kick butt heroine that I really enjoyed watching her grow and stand up for herself against some powerful beings. Just ordered the next installment of her adventures.

I found the first chapter almost cartoon superhero-ish, and almost quit reading. I decided to give it another chapter or two. I was surprised that I began to enjoy it more S the characters were developed. I will likely read the next in the series.

Unhuman Light is Book #1 in the new Chronicles of Light series. This is UF at its best! It sucked me in and was a fast paced, great read. I loved it and am off to read book 2.

Unhuman

I did not want this book to end. The main character has so many human traits to be envious of and supernatural traits and yet is a very moral caring person.
