About the author

Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala (Nepali: विश्वेश्वरप्रसाद कोइराला) was born in Varanasi to father Krishna Prasad Koirala, was one of the greatest Nepali political and literary figure. He was the Prime Minister of Nepal from 1959 to 1960 and also the first democratically elected Prime Minister in Nepal's history. He held the office just 18 months before being deposed and imprisoned by order of King Mahendra. The rest of his life was spent largely in prison or exile and in steadily deteriorating health.

While Koirala is considered one of the most charismatic political leader of Nepal, he was also one of the most well-read and thoughtful writers of Nepalese literature. He wrote short stories and novels, and some poems. Koirala began writing short stories in Hindi. His first stories were published in Banaras in Hansa, a Hindi literary magazine edited by Prem Chand (India's Tolstoy). His first Nepali short story "Chandrabadan" was published in Sharada (a Nepali literary magazine) in 1935. Koirala was very good at depicting the character and mind of women. Four other stories of Koirala were included in Katha Kusum (an anthology of Nepali stories), published in 1938 in Darjeeling. As a social realist, with good psychological insight, Koirala had established himself as one of the most important Nepali short story writers of Nepal.

A story about a boy and a girl and their friendship. An average story about how time changes their friendship.

2. Writer Baaje
The best among the four. A woman with severe leprosy on her death bed in her last days reconciles the memory of her love interest.

3. Ek Raat
A man is being executed for his deeds. Its story of people . its about sentiments or emotions after they carry out the process of his execution.

4. Shwet bhairabi
A medicore and shortest story among the 4. The story is simple, but the way BP wrote was phenomenal.

फेरि कमिश्नरले बडो कोमल स्वरमा अन्तिम बार सोधे - तिम्रो अन्तिम इच्छा के छ ? केही भन्नु छ ?
किशोर केही सचेत भयो र उसलाई लाग्यो, कमिश्नरको यो प्रश्नमा अन्तिम दिलचस्पी लिएर केही बोलिदिनैपर्छ, नत्र जीवनको केही टुङ्गो नलागेको जस्तो हुनेछ । विसर्जन वाक्य त केही भन्नैपर्छ । उसले भन्यो- तमाम किशोर युवकहरूको जीवनमा मानवीय मर्यादा र सुख सम्भव हुन जाओस् ।

कथाहरू सामान्य जस्ता नै छन् । विपीको यौन मनोविश्लेणात्मक शैलीले उनको धेरै कथाहरूलाई छोएको छ - र त्यो नै कथाको आत्मा बनेको छ, जुन हर बखत उचित चाहिँ रहिरहदैन । मैले फ्रायडलाई पढिसकेको त छैन, तर विपीलाई फ्रायडको यौन मनोविश्लेषणसँग जोडिएको पाहिन्छ। तर यो नै उनको नेपाली साहित्यमा रहेको योगदान हो।

जम्मा चार कथा छन् यस संग्रहमा । पहिलो कथा "सान्नानी" पढ्दा मलाई वीपी कोइरालाकै "सुम्निमा" र "नरेन्द्र दाइ" को याद आयो । यो कथामा प्रयुक्त दृश्यहरू कतैकतै नरेन्द्र दाइमा पनि पढेझैँ लाग्यो । फेरि यस्तै दृश्य सङ्ग्रहको अन्तिम कथामा पनि भेटियो । वीपीलाई सायद धेरै नै पिरोलेको थियो कोशी किनारको गाउँका सम्झनाहरूले । कथा भने ठीकै मात्र छ । कुनैकुनै कुरा दोहोरिएका छन् । कुनैले भने खासै अर्थ बोकेको जस्तो लागेन । तर हुनसक्छ, त्यस्तै निरर्थक लाग्ने कुराहरूको सम्झना नै न्यारेटरले गरेको हो ।

दोस्रो कथा "राइटर बाजे" बढो मार्मिक छ, र यो भन्दा पनि मार्मिक छ "एक रात" । राइटर बाजे एउटी कुष्ठरोगले ग्रसित नारीको स्मारिका हो । उसले जीवनमा गर्नुपरेका संघर्षको फेहरिस्त हो । "एक रात" भने एउटा क्रान्तिकारीको मर्मस्पर्शी कथा हो । उसलाई मृत्युदण्ड दिने मानिसहरू पीडामा परेका दृश्यले कथालाई अस्वाभाविक जस्तो बनाए पनि तिनको मानवीय गुण देखाउन पनि कोइराला सफल छन् ।
"श्वेतभैरवी" पैंतीस वर्षजती अघिको एक स्मृति हो । कथाको उद्घोषक दश एघारवर्षको हुँदा भएको भनिएको फगुनीसँगको एक घटना नै यो कथाको मूल विषय हो । अपरिपक्व दुई किशोरकिशोरीको सम्बन्ध हास्यास्पद छ र केही अस्वाभाविक पनि ।
समग्रमा, यस कथासंग्रहका दुई कथा एकदमै राम्रा छन् तर दुई कथा भने मलाई ठीकै मात्र लागे ।
