Explore the world of insects and spiders up close in this informational book. You will learn about characteristics, mobility, eating habits, life cycles, and defenses of all things creepy and crawly.

This informational boook is part of the INsiders series, and uses gigantic illustrations, so detailed and life-like, that the subject matter seems ready to crawl or fly right off of the page at any moment! Graphic supports such as diagrams, maps, and magnified images help readers to better understand the world of insects and spiders. The book is organized with a table of contents that first "INtroduces" the larger concepts, then puts specific members of the species "INfocus" in the second half of the book. The INfocus section also supports readers by first introducing common symbols such as a locator map, size comparison, species bar, and fast facts that will appear on each page. A glossary of terms and an index are additional supports that will help readers sift through the incredible amount of information being conveyed. The format and design of this book will be visually appealing to most readers, however teachers will need to introduce the many features of information text in order for a student to truly get the most out of this book.

The four year old I babysat loved this book, especially the trapdoor spider! Part of the In-Siders series, this stunning book will captivate readers with the photographic close-ups of insects and the interesting factoids about insects’ habitats, body parts, metamorphosis, senses, and food habits. The only drawback is that there isn’t detailed information about those facts for every single insect, which would make the book useful as a jumping-off place for an insect report, but not the only source. Divided into four sections: insects, spiders, incredible insects, and spectacular spiders, the book also has a glossary, a detailed index, and a simple diagram of insect and spider families. While the text is aimed at older elementary school readers, younger readers will enjoy the illustrations and will want to know more about these insects that live among us.

This is a fascinating book about Insects and Spiders. It's long and very detailed, so we took our time reading this book, only covering a little at a time. The pages are oversized, with big pictures and lots of color. The information provided is fairly concise, with lots of small blocks of information all over the page. We enjoyed reading this book together and we all learned a lot about these creatures. We saw that there are a dozen different book in the IN-siders series, and we will look for more at our local library.

This a great book for kids who may be learning about or doing a science/biology project on insects or spiders. It has a pretty good break down of all the functions of a certain insect. It has good pictures and diagrams so that it is easy for younger kids to understand.
