The Adventures of Samba Rat and Friends is an interesting story. Steven Munsie seems to capture a fantasy story line with talking animals that younger elementary children will enjoy. Unfortunately it is written at a much older level. I would place the reading level at upper elementary or even middle school. I think the book would probably be a good one for second or third graders with a much higher reading level. It may also work for a read aloud. I found this story to be very slow moving. This ...more

This is definitely not a book for younger children, as there is too many words with fewer pictures, but it is good for the older children and with all the big words, you will be able to teach them what they are. The picture themselves are quite cute and childlike and would appeal to many children wishing to read this book.

ARC Copy...wished it went on for longer however it was a decent fantasy to read with dragons (obviously) + greek mythology incorporated into the narrative.
