Honestly, I was somewhat disappointed with this book. The stunning cover and lovely works inside were pleasant to flip through but the written content didn’t really express- well- anything. It really felt like a book of Instagram captions which is fine, but not the in-depth artistic thought process that I had expected after reading the introduction.

Again- this book is a collection of Instagram posts, realistically. The illustrations are gorgeous, but the eBook version specifically is laid out terribly and doesn't know how to present images on the screen. The book would probably make a lovely coffee table piece, but as for substance beyond that, it has essentially nothing. I was just really disappointed and hoping for a little bit more than just pretty pictures and some instagram captions in this one.

I'd suggest borrowing it from the library and flip through it. It won't take you more than a couple of sittings to read the whole thing.
More than half of the book is photos. The other half are pages where maybe a third of the page has text on it. And that's being generous. It's not what I was expecting, kinda disappointed. ...more

I was really disappointed with this book. It reads like an ad to buy the works of the artist with no real explanation of why her work is important (if it even is!) The two things I got out of this book: you can do some incredible work with a layered satin stitch, and that a beginning embroiderer does not need a large repertoire of stitches to make striking and effective work. But you can learn that from reading my sentence. Skip reading the book, but browse through it if you find it at the store

First I want to stress that my rating of this book is in no way reflective of my opinion of Benning’s embroidery. Her work is beautiful, and she is a very important figure in the contemporary embroidery community.
However, the book is rather lacklustre. It reads like a magazine article stretched - visibly, with some pages barely reaching a paragraph - over the length of the book. There’s very little real insight into Benning’s life and work, just repeated mentions of the year she lived in Spain a ...more

With excellent visuals and text, this book provides an overview of the artist's current and evolving practice. As a response to plagiarism, she now sells designs online and provides direct instruction. Recommended for anyone who buys or sells on etsy.

This is the most beautiful book I have ever read/looked at and I want to live in it.

It was so inspirational. Reading Sarah's journey in her embroidery work was fascinating. This short book gives you a good "behind scenes" of her work!
