Politics In States And Communities

Rate this book
Uses a conflict management theme to illustrate state and community politics
Politics in States and Communities is distinguished by its focus on politics, its comparative approach, its concern with thorough explanation, its interest in policy, and its focus on conflicts in states and communities. Several themes are carried on throughout the book that emphasize the importance of politics at the state and community level including the “conflict management” theme which emphasizes the sources and nature of conflict in society, how key decision makers act in conflict situations, and how “politicos” emerge and determine “who gets what.” MySearchLab is a part of the Dye/MacManus program. I was required to read the 15th edition of this book for my State and Local Government class. We read chapters 1-13. My 2 star rating is not based on my class experiences in relation to this book at all. It is solely based on how I feel about this text book.

This is by far the worst textbook I have ever read. A textbook is generally never a fun read but at least you gain information from them. Somehow the writers of this book made information insanely confusing through sometimes using incorrect words to explain a definition or misusing punctuation. I understand that government can be a confusing class so maybe this form of government does not click for me but I feel like the book could have done so much better at explaining the material. In my opinion, this textbook felt like they wanted to fill the pages as much as they can while saying nothing. The only reason this doesn’t get one star is because I do feel like I learned the slightest bit from this book.
