Carry Me #8

Hogtying the Bartender

Vance Weimer has been leading a quiet life for over a decade. Between his work as a foreman at a pig farm and dealing with his teenage son’s monthly visits, he hasn’t had time for anything else. That all changes when he attends a birthday bash for his boss at a gay club. Unable to resist bartender Jimmy Gibson’s flirtatious advances, Vance gives in to temptation and slips into the back for a little fun. While he’d planned for it to be a one-time thing, he can’t get the handsome man out of his mind. Vance starts a liaison with Jimmy, but due to the bigoted attitudes of his ex-wife and son, he keeps it discreet. A verbal faux pa in front of his family drives a wedge in his budding relationship. On top of that, another suitor—one open with his sexuality and charming to boot—makes his interest in Jimmy known. Can Vance come to terms with the changes he must make to fit Jimmy into his life, or will he allow life’s demands to cause him to walk away from the first person to truly capture his heart?

It took me several days top read this book because I was so bored with these characters. I felt like I was promised actual conflict involving Mark and/or Darlene over Vance and Jimmy's relationship but, instead, we just got fear from Vance and no communication.

This series started out promising, but I won't be reading any further.

Family issues

Like this series always seem to get more story. Vance and Jimmy had to come to terms with past and family. They made it with the support of friends

Seeing as I was REALLY disappointed with the previous book, I have been leery to get back into this series.

This does have a small age gap.. I start age gaps after 10 years... so this one is about 11. Includes a cameo from Carl's now grown up daughter Lorna, taking Vance's son to task for his behavior and attitude towards gays.

I'll admit, I was expecting more on the family front when finding out how Mark started spouting BS just like his mother, but Lorna's cameo ended this shit right in the bud. Like, one convo with a pretty girl completely made his change his mind and be all supportive.

On a side note.. Some of these authors are into churning out books like candy instead of taking the actual time to get into the gritty feels. This series still contains 1 of my top favorite books... and even the ones I really liked at the beginning I don't remember much beyond Carl and Vince without reading blurb/notes/rereading.. I read ALL THE TIME.. even if I'm not posting on GR cus the story isn't on here. I also WILL REREAD my favorites over and over... I think that should be the aim.. make your story something I want to come back to..
