There was so much I really enjoyed in this second installment of the Road Trip series. We get a deep look at MJ's fascinating past and the horrific events that helped shape his brilliant and slightly cracked mind. A job gone wrong pulls him back into an underworld of government conspiracy he's been trying to escape--luckily Sonny is there to watch his back, man the morphine and keep MJ on just this side of insane, as only this lovable redneck can. Watching these two work together and handle thei ...more

Another Road Trip with MJ and Sonny? Count me in! These two gents know how to have a good time whenever and wherever and they wear crazy well.
I occasionally like to mix up my reading taste which is why I can find this particular series appealing in the sense that the destiny isn't half as important as the journey.

This is not a series I pick up because I want a nice clean, tight plot that heads arrow-straight to the finish. This is a meandering plot that takes its time and even stalls out on oc

In the two years since they met, MJ and Sonny are still fighting and fucking each other hard as ever. They’ve been in semi-retirement, enjoying the relaxation of a boat in open water. But Steam and Sunshine opens when a seemingly simple, but well-paying job has come up and MJ decides to briefly return to his eco-terrorist roots. Sonny, not wanting to risk MJ getting snatched by anybody but him, goes with his Precious.

Similar to its prequel, but with additional characters and much more sex

Warning: This review might contain what some people consider SPOILERS.

Rating: 6/10

- I still like the original characters: both Sonny and MJ have volatile personalities and enjoy a good fight almost as much as a good round of sex. The result is that sex between them is always fast and hard, but there’s more emotion in this book than in the first volume, which I enjoyed seeing.
- The secondary romance is sweet and compel

I was a bit hesitant about how Tortuga would incorporate two new characters into this second installation of the Road Trip series... Actually, I initially cringed, imagining a contrived three/foursome, but nope!

MJ & Sonny are still hot & snarky as ever, and the addition of Patrick and Neil adds a bit of dimention to MJ's history as well as another couple to follow. I cringed again when I realised there was a bit of weirdness (yeah, a more than expected kind of weirdness) to Neil but odd

I originally rated higher, but then realized that I skimmed through at least 1/3 of the book so I'm lowering the rating.

I really liked Paddy/Neil and their romance was the best part of the story. Otherwise, most of MJ/Sonny was a repetitive bore - Need, Ungh, Go me, Yours, Mine. Sex, naps, Twinkies. Toward the end there was a glimpse of MJ's past, but just when the story got intriguing it ended in a cliffhanger.

I'm not sure if I'll read the next book in the series.
