It’s not easy dating outside your race. It’s even harder when the man you're involved with is a great catch, and people feel he should be sticking with his own kind. When Raina and Jason got together they never imagined that being in love would be frowned upon. Jason’s ex refuses to let go and lose to a black woman. When Raina pops up pregnant, and Elise sees that Jason isn’t just going thru a phase but loves the mother of his future child, she challenges Raina. Imani is fed up with no good men after her boyfriend of over a year proves to be just like the rest. A liar and cheater. She kicks him out her house and swears off men and relationships. Her best friend Raina tries to convince her to give a white man a chance after she found love herself with one, but Imani isn’t convinced. That is until she meets Steven one evening at Raina’s house. With bright blue eyes and abs that are hard as steel, curiosity gets the best of her. Imani soon sees for herself that just because a man is white, it doesn’t mean they can’t hang in the bedroom. Will these couples make it to the finish line when society frowns upon inter-racial dating? Can love and good sex be enough to hold onto love or will the pressure of their skin and controversy destroy all hope? Bitter ex’s and mistrust are only a few problems these friends are faced against in this page-turning love story.
This was my first book by this Author, this is not a book l would usually read. I was a little out of my comfort zone but I did enjoy the read and can't wait to find out what happens next.
I struggled with this review. On the one hand, I am all for entertaining the masses and opening each other up to different cultures and experiences they may have no knowledge of yet. On the other hand, I am not a fan of fetishized versions of relationships, even in fiction i.e., you need to choose a white man if you want to be treated well and like a queen because black men just cheat on you and treat you like trash. This was what I got from the story. This was an opportunity to entertain and in that entertainment, your audience would have been inadvertently educated when myths are dispelled i.e. some “white boys aren’t packing”. I’m aware this is fiction and just for entertainment purposes, which is why I struggled with this review. This story chronicled the lives & drama of two couples and the Raina & Jason and Imani & Steven. This interracial romance had very little romance or substance. There was too much time spent on the fact that “oh I’m with a white man” to develop the plot or the characters. The best friends spent so much time extolling the virtues of being with a white man who treats you like a queen as opposed to a black man who treats you like trash that it was little uncomfortable to read. I enjoy interracial romance, but not of fetishized versions of interracial relationships. The good- • Raina/Jason/Elise-Jason still legally married to Elise has a pregnant girlfriend who he wants to marry. However, once the wife discovers Jason is moving on with a black woman, she no longer wishes to allow him to move on and proceeds to cause drama and makes a very shocking reveal in book two. • Imani/ Kenny /Steven- Imani and Steven are setup by their mutual friends and the relationship is immediate lust and love. Kenny who Imani was previously involved with didn’t cause too much drama. He was more of an afterthought in the story. There was some abused eluded to with one of the children, but nothing was made of it. I’m not sure why it was brought up. The bad- • Underdeveloped characters • Superficial “plot” • The transitions were a little rough • Confusing timelines with Jason and Raina’s baby is walking and then in the next chapter, she is just learning to roll over. • Few grammatical errors i.e. tense changes which led to incorrect word usage, question marks at the end of statements, misspelled words or incorrect acronyms used FMLA being called FEMA • Incorrect word usage i.e. " I'm going to put you up on that" instead of "I'm going to hold you to that" in reference to holding someone accountable • the dialogue at times could be sophomoric especially when the couples were supposed to be speaking in a romantic tone or when an attempt was made to show cultural differences. For example, In Book 2 Raina says “aww, I love you too baby. But don’t ever compare our love to what you and Elise had. Our love is genuine & strong. I love you like no other man I had ever known. You are my soulmate and best friend. There is nothing that I wouldn’t do to see us through whatever.” To which Jason responds “Bae that was some hood poetry, but I got the gist of what you were saying. “ What was hood about it? She spoke clearly no “ebonics” or “hood/ghetto referencing”. Random- • So if Elise had of let Jason have a threesome they would still be together? Why is she still on all his accounts? They've been legally separated for 3 yrs. • Raina was under stress, but not in distress and given a clean bill of health. At 7 months, she ordered to be on bedrest with one baby? What did we miss? • I’m a little surprised that the constant references to race i.e white boy this and white boy that didn't cause an issue in the relationship. The female characters referred to the
This was a well written book. I enjoyed how Raina tricked Imani into dating outside of her race. I crushed but never perused. I'm glad that Raina was patient enough to wait on her blessing. I'm also happy for Imani and Steven. I pray that they have their happy ever after. I can't wait for part 2. I wish I had this in paperback so that I can share with friends who love to read just as I have enjoyed this book.
This was a well written book. Raina is the kind of friend we could only hope for. To trick your friend into dating outside your race was very compelling. I love that Imani was open to the idea and ended up in a relationship. We can only pray for men like Jason and Steven. Now, that wife was another story. You messed up and wanna cause someone else to be as unhappy as you are. I loved the suprise engagement. I hope that whatever it is...Imani and Steven can work things out and have a beautiful, long lasting relationship. Looking forward to part 2 of this book.
When I chose a book I look for a few things that jump out at me or I get this feeling but sometimes its a case of wanting to enjoy a new writer.Well apparently every decision making skill just took flight. From the beginning this story starts off as if you've been dropped in the middle of a movie and you can't catch up.Also are we dealing with adults or juveniles masquerading? The writer at no time makes me like the characters because you really don't know who you are getting or what kind of people they really are.The scenes felt as if you are always walking in on something that's all ready started.I just think a rewrite is needed and character development should be worked on,not to mention storyline. There wasn't a flow.you couldn't relax and enjoy what you were reading. Also I thought some events were thrown in for shock value(not good). This was just not a good choice for me,but I like that the writer gives it a good try.
I want to start by saying that I did enjoy this book the only issues I had with the book was the stereotypes they did for a lot of white men came off as if most white men weak and they'll let a black woman walk all over them. Another thing that I should point out they also went on, and we're saying that black men cheat they treat black women crappy. Honestly, that's one of the problems I have with a lot of interracial stories. You make black men come off as bad now; I do like the fact that she was trying to encourage her friend to broaden her horizons and date outside her race but the bashing of black men that was a no for me. I did enjoy the story though there was a good flow I was very interested. I didn't like that she referred to Steven as a Snowman is messed up.
I couldn't wait to read this book by the synopsis. Omg, it didn't fail between Steven and Jason had me side-eyeing my husband ready to drop him and get me a packing white man lol. Uggh a good for nothing man can really mess up a woman's complete future I'm a need Imani to chill and let Steven continue loving her but I know because of Kenny then you know her hormones she's on one. I can't wait till part 2 oh and I can't help but wonder what got elise to sign them papers but great book def will read part 2
The only reason it took so long to read this book “life happens” I’m sure I would have finished it in a day that’s how good the book was. These authors touched bases on a stereotypical world we live in and made it thrive. There is a cliffhanger. I would recommend this book to all who are into interracial romance novels. This book isn’t predictable so don’t try to assume where the plot goes. I can’t wait for part 2! This is about two best friends. One best friend has found love and is encouraging her best friend to date outside her race. Also, every woman can relate to these two women.
Great read, it’s funny, it’s great love stories, it had great dramatic parts all in one. I am desperate for part 2. All while reading I am asking myself is Steven really real can there be 2 Mr. perfects and they be best friends? Something has to be coming... now it’s all in part 2. Imani is it a state of mind now with her suspensions and receipt, Steven better be ready for what’s to come and she will finally listen to him.
I didn't get to finish there seem to be a story line tried to get to end but got offened with the many use of the "N" word. I felt that I must be jaded and this was not the book for me i have been reading since I was 13. I am now 74 and I am African American. I love interracial romance exotic romance passionate romance all types of romances couldnt get into it good luck Mary lee
I am not a prude, but I would have enjoyed this story more if it contained less sex and the over use of the N word was not used as much! I actually had to skip through the story because of that! Also, I don’t like that it made reference to only “White boys” treat you right! THAT is so NOT TRUE! You have no good men in all races! The other untrue is that all black men are packing! Going to read part two because I need to know what happened with Imani!
Imani and Raina are too much. I just love their friendship and the love they have for Steven and Jason. Steven is so good to Imani and his child. He's even good to his ex-wife daughter. Jason is protective of Rains but his mom needs to know her place. I can hardly wait for part 2.
This story is too raw for me. I did not feel any chemistry between the couples. The plot was weak, I could not finish it. If you like raw urban stories then this is the story for you. It's just not for me. Furthermore, I hate the vilifying of black men. They are all not bad and unfaithful. There is good and bad among all men.
I love interracial relationships. The sex these couples have is amazing. Imani,Steven,Raina and Jason were good together. Even tho Elisa was having a hard time letting go she fail to realize it's what she wanted. she just didn't think he'll move on happier. Imani have jumped to conclusions and I pray she and the baby are ok
This is my first book by this author. The characters were define and the storyline touched on the day to day issues most relationships faces. It doesn’t matter the race of the couple some issues are universal. Can Steven and Imani stand the test of their love.? Don’t miss part two of White Boys. Packing
This would have been a good story if the authors did not over reach and make white men seem to be perfect and black men to be trash. I am biracial and that offended me. I do not want to read the second book for the simple fact of how the authors are portraying black men!!!! Totally disappointed!!
Loved the story & I would recommend it as a great read. This story makes you realize that race doesn’t matter because it’s really about your heart. It made me consider dating outside my race. I can’t wait for part 2 to see who will actually get married.
This book was good I love a good romance novel I loved reading through the pages as things developed in all there lives. It had excellent sex scenes in my vivid mind lol. I'm wanting more.
This book is not my typical read but from the synopsis I took a chance and it was definitely worth it. I can't wait to see what unfolds in part 2. This was my first read by this author but definitely not my last.
I really enjoyed this book! Every page keeps you hooked and ready for more! I loved both of the couples and how their relationship changes n strengthens throughout the story I can’t wait for part 2!
I downloaded this book on my kindle 24 hours ago. I just couldn't put it down. It is a page turned for sure. It's such a sweet love story, made me believe that love is still out there. I'm ready for part 2.
I love Amani her attitude and the way she don't take no crap made me relate to her. This is a hot little read that I couldn't put down. First read by this author but it won't be my last
many errors and reading this book honestly made me uncomfortable but for some reason i kept reading lol some parts had me curious that's probably why but other than that the story was okay
I'm married to a white man & it's everything written in this book plus some. You described our relationship to a tee. My husband was my friend, confidant. He is a good lover (the best I ever had) husband.
Just, no................................................I didn’t make it passed the first chapter. Just, no...................This book(chapter) was degrading to black women and black men. Just, no....
I like Imani and Raina's relationship they continuously looking out for each other. Can't wait for part two to she what happens next for these two couples.
