2.5 stars.
A little underwhelming.
This book is a slow starter and I was confident that it would pick up pace towards the end.... it didn’t.
Quite disappointing after being reeled in with the synopsis.
I awarded it 2.5 stars because it is well written but it could have been so much more exciting, a bit boring if I’m honest.

A book that left me with mixed feelings. On the one hand, there is much more going on than it seems at the start of the book. We meet with Johanna (Jo) and Katherine (Kate) as little 8 year old girls, starting boarding school. And of course they hate it, and of course they become best friends, and of course... thirty years later it is a whole different story. The story revolves around friendship and betrayal, about family love and hate, about the thin line between being friends for life or being ...more

I thought that no book could have quite as many twists as My Husband’s Lies, but then I picked up Betray Her and instantly became lost in the gripping story. Caroline England’s second novel is expertly crafted to shock the reader as many times as possible and I found myself gasping several times as all the clues left in the novel fell into place.

Jo Wragg is in her late thirties, widowed and desperately longing for a child. Plagued by jealousy, she dreams of living the life of her childhood frien

Thank you to NetGalley, Little, Brown Book Group UK and Caroline England for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

From the moment I began reading I was hooked. Betray Her is a story of friendship, love, secrets, lies and betrayal that exudes nail-biting tension and foreboding throughout.

Jo and Kate have been best friends ever since their first day at St Lukes twenty years ago despite their very different backgrounds. Jo has always felt like the working class girl from a

Thanks to NeyGalley, Caroline England and Little Brown Book Group UK for the opportunity to read this one. 4/5 from me. You have to give this a read.

This psychological thriller had me hooked right from the very start. I sped through this book in 24 hours as I was desperate to get to the end and what an ending it was. It had my brain in overdrive but I didnt see that one coming. It's a shocking read and I felt it was a love story and a psychological thriller all in one.

With constant twists that

Wow, what can I say. After reading My Husbands Lies I didnt think I would read another book so conflicting and full of twists but how wrong I was.

Utterly intriguing with so many twists and turns your never quite sure what's happening! Caroline England has so cleverly left little clues throught the book that all suddenly fall into place and everything makes sense.

This book has everything youd expect from this genre, twists and turns, secrets and lies, illicit relationships, rivalry & jealousy

Sadly this book wasn’t quite what I was hoping for. Sure there are twist and turns a plenty in this book. Which is why I didn’t put it down. But I jut found it incredibly slow. I did hope that it would pick up the pace in the middle or the end. But this sadly didn’t happen. Sorry

Another fantastic novel from Caroline England. A brilliant, twisty drama. I loved it. The book was extremely well written and I particularly enjoyed the alternating past and present. We could really understand the relationship between the two main protagonists through learning about their shared past. An absolute whirlwind of a story with jealousy, secrets and lies. The book was dark and weird at times but that made it all the better.

Betray Her is exquisitely written. I identified with the narrator so profoundly through her grief at one point, I literally stopped breathing. Alternating between present and past, this is a cleverly woven story, full of passion and intrigue, sexual tension and desperate longing. Two girls, poles apart in their early upbringing, are drawn together at boarding school to form an unlikely friendship that endures into adulthood. But as we examine the friendship, going back to the musty halls of the ...more

This is such a tale full of twists and turns.

It centres around the friendship of Jo and Kate, a friendship that spans over 30 years after meeting at boarding school.

Jo is recently widowed and her first port of call on that dreadful night was her best friend's house and Kate is continuing to keep an eye on her.

This story flits between the past life of the girls schooling and the present...whilst neither character is especially likeable, there are moments in the book where you feel sympathy for th

I was a little disappointed in this book as I just didn’t seem connect with it and I really don’t know why. The story had plenty of twists to keep you guessing but it all felt a bit underwhelming and I struggled to keep my attention from wandering. I cannot fault the writing it was really excellent and perhaps I have just been reading too much of the same type of genre as other people seem full of praise for the book but I found it a little predictable sadly. So all in all it was a 3 star read f ...more

I loved Caroline England's previous books and was eager to read this one.

This is a domestic psychological thriller based on two friends whose relationship is nothing as it seems to be.
Although I found the pace of the first half too slow for my taste, the second one grabbed my attention and didn't let go till the shocking twist at the end. There are lots of shocking secrets and betrayals with dark undercurrents that kept me thinking for a long time after I finished the book.

Thanks Netgalley, the

The book focuses on Kate and Jo. Best friends who meet at boarding school at 8 years old. It flits between different time periods giving you snippets of mainly Jo’s life. It is a very long drawn out book and for the first half I didn’t find it very exciting and almost gave up. But after that there are plenty of shocking events that make sure you don’t skim the pages!

Fantastic story, full of twists and turns. Love the family element, and the secret world of school friends. Things are not always as they seem! This totally drew me in and I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend it.

Wow – this book was a very slow burn but about halfway in the drama eat up and that last half is a crazy crash until it finally goes off the rails. These people are scary, and not in the horror movie sense of the word. This will definitely have you sleeping with one eye open when your childhood best friend is in the room

The relationship of two best friends since boarding school, as different as chalk and cheese, comes to a head when their lives take different directions. Jealously, greed, envy, cheating, lying and revenge play out in a twisted novel where the reader doesn’t have all the information. Great fast read and well written!

The summary of Betray Her is brief but addictive, hinting at dark secrets and complex relationships, a thriller to keep you reading all the night.

For me, the reality was a bit underwhelming.

Jo and Kate met at boarding school, and have been best friends ever since. While their circumstances may be different (Jo is a widowed journalist, Kate is a stay at home mum with a well-off husband), their relationship has lasted through the years. Until everything changes.

Betray Her flits between a few diffe

I was expecting so much more from this book. I had read a view reviews left by other people before I started it and they all seemed full of praise.

However, I felt that this book just did not live up to the hype. The story is a very slow burn, but Jo is just one of the most annoying characters in the world. She is stupidly blind in regards to what is happening around her and is solely focused on her own well being.
Now, I normally don't mind an unlikable main character, I actually really enjoy the

This book was a bit of a disappointment and left me with wanting more. Parts kept me in suspense and then when it was explained later on, it felt like a let down and not well thought through. The ending did not surprise me at all and I had guessed what had happened before it was explained. A bit predictable.

This was not a psychological thriller in any way, it was a love story with a variation of cheating allotted to every character. It dragged on and jumped from past to present without reason. I stuck with this book to the end hoping it would improve but happy to say it's over. Disappointing.
