A poetry collection about the mythic life of Artemis, Greek Goddess of the hunt. Told through the perspective of Artemis herself with the contributions of a few other Greek Goddesses. This collection reimagines and follows Artemis navigating her lifelong vow of chastity and, rather than suffering through it, owning it as a facet of her aromanticism and asexuality. Immerse ...more

Since I read Soft in the Middle and absolutely loved it (review a little farther down) I’ve been looking forward to reading everything Shelby writes, so it’s only natural I was excited about Goddess of the Hunt especially after learning it’s 1/ About Artemis! FREAKING ARTEMIS!!! She’s one of my favourite Greek goddesses. And 2/ It’s hella aroac

Do you ever read a poetry collection and you find yourself unable to stop reading? Don't exactly know why, but you just can't. There is something there, grabbing your attention. And it's okay if you don't really know why, you're just happy it's there. That's how I felt about this poetry collection.

Shelby Eileen has a way with words. I love her poetry collections for how they make me feel, understood. I love the way her words snap their fingers at me, “hello, we're here, read us, we're worth your

Once again, Shelby Eileen has created a masterpiece. The way she uses Greek goddess Artemis as a metaphor for independence, self-love, strength, queerness, and keeps a cohesive storyline through her poems is astounding. Her poetry is mythical and magical, the words fitting together like puzzle pieces. I love the way she describes what it’s like being aroace and characterizes Artemis as such. As someone on the aroace spectrum it’s really nice to feel seen through these poems and through Artemis’ ...more

I had high expectations for this poetry collection. Mostly, I was so excited to see own voices aro-ace rep! And I ended up loving this even more than I thought I would.

The representation felt so validating, and on top of that, the message of these poems as a whole was really empowering as well. I wasn't having the best day, and reading them had me pretty emotional at times, but in the best way possible: it made me feel seen, and told me there was nothing wrong with me for being

Oh boy, why is everything Shelby writes unlike anything else I've ever written, and even unlike everything else she's ever written! I just.. if there is a more original poet out there at the moment, I don't know who it is.

Honestly, I get all excited and flustered whenever I hear there's going to be a new collection by Shelby (even if I am woefully behind in reading them). This collection was about as fantastical and mythical as anything I have ever read. It was such a breath of fresh air to rea

I received a free ebook copy of this book from the author in exchange for a honest review, I reached out and asked for this book on Twitter.

I've spent probably over half my life learning myths from around the world, they fascinate me, because people and the way they interact with stories in whatever form they come in now is the same as how we have for thousands upon thousands of years. We see ourselves in stories, in myths, in poetry.

The author of this work, Shelby Eileen, is aromantic and ase

I was given a review copy of this book, because I wanted to be able to review in time for aro week. As you might know, I love aro ace Artemis. It’s something that shines the truest to me so if you also want more a-spec Artemis this is a great option. Just out of the gate, you might like this for that. I’ve posted Sappho’s poem was about Artemis before, that felt divine in a way. This is from a far more personal standpoint and will connect to those struggling with their identity. It’s not a book ...more

Available now here!! Perfectly on time for #aroawarenessweek ━ if you want to support aroace authors and creators, here's a great place to start!

A book about Artemis. Fierce, powerful, feminist, aroace. Warrior and moon child. Devoted, to herself and her cause. A weight on her shoulders. Not quite the earth (that job went to Atlas), maybe the sky (the stars, and all those lost in the night).

I was sent an ARC of this poetry collection in exchange for an honest review **

I really wanted to love it more than I did, but I just couldn’t find myself connecting with it.

The concept was very unique and I enjoyed that aspect of it, but I wish there was more emotion.

I found myself getting very unfocused and having to re-read multiple poems.

There were a few poems I loved, but not enough for a higher rating.

This is an extremely creative and gorgeous collection that connects Greek mythology, specifically the goddess Artemis, to asexuality. It's very personal, moving, and unlike any poetry book I've read. Eileen's books always encourage me to think differently and this one does just that!

Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book in exchange for writing and posting a review.

Like any self-respecting queer kid, I got super into Greek mythology in school. I mean, what wasn’t to love? Fluid genders, shapeshifting, queer relationships all over the place–for the little weird bi kid, it was mythological paradise. So when I had the opportunity to review an early copy of Shelby Eileen’s collection of poetry reimagining Artemis as aromantic and asexual, I jumped to get my hands on it.

Many thanks to the author, Shelby Eileen, for providing a free ARC ahead of time. It's much appreciated!

This book largely seeks to explore Artemis's narrative and relationships among the immortals and natures with her asexual and aromantic identities at the forefront. Personally, one of Eileen's most fascinating moves is to give Artemis adolescence—to give not just maidenhood but something akin to puberty to a being who is essentially ageless. Yet in giving Artemis an age, she comes to embody ag

I wrote a review for Shelby's first poetry collection soft in the middle about a year ago when it first came out. I said of their writing then that they was a magician. I said that they struck chords in you that you didn't even know were there and that they did it with something that feels effortless. And their writing has just gotten better honestly. Goddess of the Hunt is a very different collection with a very different fee

I'm somebody who loves Greek mythology, so the premise of this chapbook already appeals to me on a deeply personal level, and Artemis as aroace just makes it that much sweeter. Plenty has been written about the 'virgin goddess', but surprisingly little from her own perspective, and this is the niche that Eileen's book slips into. The 100-page book flips between snapshots of moments in the life of a goddess (usually Artemis; sometimes Leto, or Persephone) and short poems, all filled with a richne ...more
This was a fantastic collection.

What really stood out to me in this one was the atmosphere of it. Shelby Eileen perfectly captured the feeling of Ancient Greece and ancient forests. This collection felt as grand and ancient and godly as the content of the poems. I also found the actual layout/organization of the poems pretty cool and unlike anything I'd read before! I'll note here that I think the one thing that kept this from being five stars was that this collection didn't feel quite as cohesi

Shelby kindly sent me an ARC of Goddess of the Hunt, and I love it! It is a beautiful collection of poems about Artemis, the Greek goddess of hunting, wild animals, chastity, childbirth, and the moon. These poems deal with rage, strength, loneliness, love, nature, and independence - and shows that none of these things are mutually exclusive (with some serious ace vibes as well, which I love). As a big fan of both Artemis and poetry, this book was an easy sell for me! But anyone who appreciates g ...more

Shelby is truly brilliant. This collection is both a continuation of and departure from prior work.

As in prior collections, Goddess of the Hunt is a meeting of gentleness, courage and compassion. It comes with all the fierce protectiveness and fearless vulnerability anyone could want.

My one critique is, at times, it gets a little repetitive but truthfully that is a minor problem. The story is wonderful, the writing beautiful and the style unmistakably Shelby.
