He challenges his disciples to live each day as participants in God's kingdom - to be poor in spirit and pure in heart, to turn the other cheek and to love one's enemies. Through his teachings and healings, Jesus breaks the bonds of evil and sin and frees each one for a life rich in celebration and service. By his resurrection, Jesus continues to be present, even until the end of the age. This was a wonderful book for bible study. Each chapter had something that I highlighted and sent me back to the bible to re-read Matthew with a different perspective. If you are looking for something that causes you to slow down and dig a little deeper into the book of Matthew, I highly recommend it.

Because I'm in the midst of a bunch of Matthew reading, I went through this Bible Study in my devotional reading for the start of Lent (I'm off of Matthew for several weeks, so could read this more leisurely without thinking of how it would inform a sermon). These aren't exactly what I think of as "a Bible study." it is more like a commentary on 10 passages from Matthew with some reflection questions at the end of the chapter. I think of Bible Study as more inductive than this, that said, it is a good resource for those wanting to lead a Bible study, or for personal study (as I used it). Like its namesake, the Interpretation commentary, this resource focuses both on the horizon of the text, and its practical implication for our lives. On the whole pretty good and accessible for lay readers
