Joseph Murphy was a Divine Science minister and author.
Murphy was born in Ireland, the son of a private boy's school headmaster and raised a Roman Catholic. He studied for the priesthood and joined the Jesuits. In his twenties, an experience with healing prayer led him to leave the Jesuits and move to the United States, where he became a pharmacist in New York (having a degree in chemistry by that time). Here he attended the Church of the Healing Christ (part of the Church of Divine Science), where Emmet Fox had become minister in 1931.
In the mid 1940s, he moved to Los Angeles, where he met Religious Science founder Ernest Holmes, and was ordained into Religious Science by Holmes in 1946, thereafter teaching at the Institute of Religious Science. A meeting with Divine Science Association president Erwin Gregg led to him being reordained into Divine Science, and he became the minister of the Los Angeles Divine Science Church in 1949, which he built into one of the largest New Thought congregations in the country. In the next decade, Murphy married, earned a PhD in psychology from the University of Southern California and started writing. After his first wife died in 1976, he remarried to a fellow Divine Science minister who was his longstanding secretary. He died in 1981.

Los clásicos no se discuten, lo se.
Pero me voy a permitir una pequeña licencia.
Acabo de terminar de leer una edición en español de este tradicional libro de "autoayuda", en la versión de la Editorial Lidiun (1992).
Una auténtica pérdida de tiempo.
Ni bien se recorren las primeras líneas, ya se siente una insufrible sensación de haber caído en una suerte de densa ciénaga, que amalgama pasajes bíblicos, enseñanzas inveteradas de filosofía oriental y ejemplos de supuestas aplicaciones a nuestra cultura actual. Todo, en un vano intento por ofrecer un mapa hacia la autosuperación y el "éxito". Su único mérito consiste en su brevedad.

umm as someone who has seen many times how thoughts (for lack of a better word) do manifest in real life, this book is a lot of crock. I did try to give it a chance but I cannot take an author seriously if he talks about how your broken bones or depression can be cured if you believe you can hard enough. geez

The cosmic power as the author put it is God or the Holy Spirit with you. There are various Biblical scriptures peppered throughout and most of the affirmations are verses.
I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me and I lift my eyes up to the mountains where does my help come from.
I think this book does well to remind people of the power of scripture and to stay positive, hopeful and focused.
The examples and testimonies of people are the best bit because it shows you, God can turn any situation around as long as you believe and have faith.

Excellent Guide To Self-Development. Dr. Murphy Teaches Us How To Use Our Inner Mind And Faculties And Strong Faith In God's Divinity Can Manifest Miracles In Daily Life. Miracles Are Really The Numerous Blessings We Create Through Our Own Thoughts, Emotions, And Actions In Our Individual Relationships And On The Social Scale As Well. I've read many of Dr. Joseph Murphy's books and they always get a 5-star from me. This book is no exception.
Dr. Joseph Murphy, a leader in New Thought writes simply and concretely in understandable terms about the power of the inner workings of the mind. Each chapter ends with a summary and important points to consider. I highly recommend this book for those on a spiritual journey toward understanding of the power of their own minds.

One of Joseph Murphy's best - What you would expect out of him if you are familiar with his books. I really enjoyed a lot of the testimonials given in the book.

What I love about these types of books is that they give many examples of what people have been able to accomplish with a disciplined, unwavering mind. Those who chalk this work up to “believing hard enough” are missing the mark. It’s unfortunate that some will allow their doubts and skepticism to rob them of the things they’re capable of.
I have moved bones and bent spoons with my mind because I’m gullible enough to “believe” this stuff works. This stuff we are all capable of when the desire is strong enough. Perhaps a healthy amount of skepticism is needed in life to keep out of harm’s way, but we can’t forget to balance it with a healthy dose of gullibility to move ourselves into the wondrous.

I am an expert and teacher of Human Thriving. This book was recommended reading in my Ph.D. program. The basis of human thriving is always the same but there are myriad approaches. The approach that one person understands may baffle another so I really love having examples of different ways to approach each aspect--it makes me a better teacher. Dr. Murphy expanded my repertoire of approaches with his techniques.
