In a jugalbandi exchange of verse and prose, Hineni (Hebrew for 'here I am') is an attempt to table a conversation on emotional health, specifically on emotionally abusive parenting–how it affects the child’s view of the self, her navigation through the world while questioning her identity (or the lack of it), and the eventual fight to break out of the shackles of the mind ...more

'Here I am' or HINENI is a fresh take on the crucial subject of Emotionally Abusive Parenting. Through the narrative broken down into prose and poetry, Zee's life has been brought forth to let us read what keeps hidden due to our negligence or ignorance.

Mr. X and Ms. Y are tied to the holy union of marriage. Marriage in Indian society happens due to several factors. Sometimes, it is the need to fit in the norms of the society while at others, it is the emotional upheavals which take

Finished reading this wonderful book today written by a person very close to my heart and who is immensely talented Shivranjana Rathore! The reading of the book was a healing process and helped me question & reflect on my being and its existence. The narrative of Zee is beautifully chronicled and one doesn't realize when one becomes Zee in the process. I was filled with joy and happiness when Zee gets liberated and claims herself!

I hardly read these days due to lack of time but Hineni is wo

Hineni is an interesting attempt at jotting down the emotions related to identity and isolation. Shivranjana has done a great job of combining prose and poetry to communicate her thoughts. Her prose keeps the narrative focussed and her poetry allows for expression. The words she uses to weave her narrative shows her originality and uniqueness. When I was reading the introduction and remarks in the end of the book, I could sense her curiosity and understanding of parenting, emotional abuse, socia ...more

For a very long I have been avoiding reading on the pretext of "being busy" and so this New Years I decided to read more. Hineni was my first book of the year and Oh Boy! what a book. I started reading the book in the afternoon and just couldn't keep it down. Its a beautifully written book with a powerful message. There were several instances where i could relate and empathize with Zee (Main Character). The conclusion was superb and connects all the dots. In the end I would say its definitely on ...more

I've never read a book that has weaved in poetry and prose as beautifully as this. I loved the irony in the titles for many of the poems which brought out a smile amid some tears. I loved how the poems flows seamlessly into prose and back into poetry again. Part of me felt like reading the book fast to know what happens but the ebbs and flows of the writing compelled me to pause and feel, stay with the moments created. I know I'll have to read it a few more times- it's that kind of a book where ...more

We have very few books on mental health and fewer good ones. Shiv has lucidly put across the worries, pressures and toxicities faced by individuals with utmost nonchalance. The result of it is completely healing. A great book on why each of us need to work our own stuff around! One of a kind book on mental-emotional balance.
