While Yuri Jean-Baptiste may have spent his adolescence growing up in beautiful Fort Lauderdale, FL, he mainly lived in the magical fantasy and sci-fi landscapes his imagination created. A voracious reader and movie-lover, Yuri spent much of his childhood years world-building and concocting adventures before being forced to grow up. Lucky for him, he met his true love, Jennifer, who dared him to imagine again and pursue his dreams of becoming an author. Married in 2015, Yuri now lives in Durham, NC, with his wonderful wife and two dogs, although he devotes much of his time within his now fully-developed worlds. When he is not writing his novels, Yuri can be found channeling his inner nerd, playing Dungeon’s and Dragons and Magic: the Gathering with his friends.

The story pulled me in immediately. Who was the key? Who were these beautiful and hideous beings? Tell me now! Yeah, I’m a little impatient, but I digress. I loved how the family tried to feel Tristan out to see if he had any “interesting or weird” happenings occurring to him yet. The author pulls you into each scene with such descriptive writing that you truly become invested in the characters. I remember feeling anxious waiting for the reveal of powers or the outcome of a potential confrontation. The author delivered developed characters with an action-packed plot. Part one of this series was engaging and well-written. I will be reading part two.

I'm presently on page 27 and seriously dumping this in my DNF bin.

The style of writing makes me wonder if a ghostwriter was used, or an 'article spinner', because I seriously don't believe that a mother would 'scream' through a bedroom door for her son to get ready for school, not unless both mother and son were on the certifiably wrong side of 'normal'. I also had to double-check Tristan's age because it is unthinkable that an almost-16 year boy would 'sob' all the way home from school on his bicycle just because he was being bullied!

I will update once I've plucked up the courage to read more of this so far, so horrible piece of writing!

Thanks, Netgalley and Publisher for the opportunity to read and review!
The "academy" trope isn't something that catches my interest nowadays, but the book offered some nice character development, although most of the essential periods in his life were crammed into a little over 300 pages. It made me want more type and page space for some past moments, but I guess the role of the first book is always to introduce and set the stage for the more important action. Still Tristan's journey until he finally manifested his powers was quite intriguing, eventful and partially emotional.

The start of a fantastic series

I loved every page! Such a fresh take on powers and superheroes. YJB has spun a thrilling tell of how to rely on the abilities you have. Trist was as normal as they come but through hard work and action he became a legend in his own right. The highs and the lows in this book are emotionally gripping and though the twist at the end was as visible as the sun on a cloudless day, it was executed with care for the character. Such a high end developing story and a splash of color in a white washed genre! I will be reading more from this author.

Metamorphs is an excellent story with great characters and an amazing world. I couldn't put the book down (stop flipping through the kindle version). The story was compelling and interesting. The characters grew throughout the story at a nice pace. The story was involved but easy to follow. I really enjoyed this story. I can't wait for more!

Tristan really does surprise you

The tales of metamorphs have been around for awhile. This, thankfully, was a coming of age and using brains to guide the talents. I love the charge of pace and the one final twist was so well written, it was almost believable. Definitely something everyone can enjoy from the blush of first love, friends, betrayals, and growth...

Excellent world building by the author. I agree with many others that it resembles a Hogwarts Academy for superheroes.

The pacing is good throughout the story which keeps you wanting to read just one more chapter.

Would make a nice family read along book.

not quite right.

Some good bits and a few more bad bits. The characters were starting to develop but the Academy piece was a bit clumsy. Some pieces of the story line just didn’t work. Needs an editor and some polish.
