Object-Oriented Systems Analysis: A Model-Driven Approach

Rate this book
This book presents a new technique for analyzing software systems using an "object-oriented" approach. The technique is based on proven methods of data modelling and system behaviour specification that have been successfully applied to software problems ranging from traditional data processing to real-time system control. Intended for systems analysts, the software project manager, programmers, consultants, university-level computer science students, and other computer professionals, the book explains how to use powerful object-oriented techniques for creating, organizing and analyzing system software specifications. Several examples of real-life system problems are presented that should be familiar to most audiences. It is suitable for use as a supplement to a university-level computer science course concerning systems analysis and related topics.

Nowadays you're more than likely going to be introduced to OO systems analysis and modeling via UML, but that by no means is that to say this book is outdated or irrelevant. Rather the concept of 'view states' that it introduces is rather brilliant, and while UML does support that particular use case it just goes under utilized. Which in my opinion results in system design and moreover software documentation which exposes too much of the system at a fine granular level.

It got a little dry halfway through, but overall I thought this was an illuminating book and a cool intro to systems analysis.
