Everything that glitters isn’t gold. For Cassandra Watson, witnessing her husband Elliott’s infidelity first-hand gives her enough grief to send her entire world into a tailspin. Painful scars, long buried from her traumatic past, begin to reemerge emotionally and even physically in the form of her ex, the charming and persuasive Julian McCoy. Cassandra finds herself wrapped back up in Julian, but soon realizes he comes with his own transgressions towards her. Dangerous discoveries of murder, cover-ups, and lies cause her to question if the reality she knows is even genuine. How true are your “truths”, if they’re only related to your perception?
Diana W. hails from the city of gumbo, Mardi Gras, and the WhoDat nation. She writes about love and the imperfect ways we find it. Her stories of black love are down to earth and full of comedy. When she's not writing, she's in the kitchen baking cookies for her home bakery, The Cookie Catalog.
Just when I thought this was just a book about a married couple hitting a rough patch in their relationship, the twist is introduced. Cassie and Elliot had to deal with inside and outside forces trying to destroy their marriage. The inside forces were within Cass. She had unresolved issues from her college years that took such a psychological toll on her that she just shut down. Elliott was instrumental in helping her come out of her shell, but she didn't realize that she changed. Dealing with losing a friend on top of losing someone you love changes your mindset. Having Julian pop back up, dealing with Victoria and Elliot, and sisterly issues with Denise leaves Cassie wondering what's going to happen next. Throw in a cop whose always there to save the day and you've got a recipe for disaster. Lucas, wow I didn't see it coming
I can tell you one thing, this story kept my attention! I had to know what was going to happen next. I understand that Cassandra (aka Cassie) would be upset about her husband messing around on her and all but she was too quick to call the relationship over. She was also to easy with getting involved with Julian so fast. Elliott did his dirt but I still felt sorry for him. Cassie was lucky he would even speak to her again after all the mess that went down between her and Julian. I figured something was not right with Lucas but didn't know what. I'm glad things worked out in the end. I enjoyed the story.
My first time reading this author's work and this book was really good. Had my attention from beginning to end. Very well written, great storyline and character development. Lies, deceit, twist, turns and finally the truth is what you get when reading this story. When you think you have it all put together more theories come into play. Cassandra went through some tough times and like the title of the book her distorted perception of what she thought to be the truth was anything but. I was happy her and Elliot were able to work things out but her pregnancy got me thinking especially since her tubes were tied. Lucas was a piece of work. Overall great read
Cassandra went thru it with the turns of events that happened to her. Julian wasn't doing the bad stuff to her like she tought. Lucas was a piece of work, wouldn't have never thought a cop like him would stoop so low to get what he wanted. Poor Elliott was just a prawn in the game and didn't know he was being set up to fail his marriage. I loved the twists and revelations in this book. My next question is she pregnant now but she had her tubes tied how can that be? Reverse maybe. I did hate that Julian died messed up,but I get it he had his fault in this game also.
I saw NONE of what came to be the at the end of this book coming. COMPLETE shocker. You MUST read this story. We've all heard of master manipulators but let me tell you, even the BESTEST of them ain't got nothing on Lucas. Thank you Amazon recommendations this was definitely a good one to choose from an author I've never read before, but will read more of.
Fist of all, this was the first book that I’ve read by this author and I wouldn’t definitely read more of her work. The book title was demonstrated throughout the book with all of the twists, turns and secrets held in this book. I was no expecting the turn of events that occurred in it. My only question is how did Cassie end up pregnant in the end when her tubes were supposedly tied? Did she have it reversed? Great book.
Story line was intriguing with nuggets along the way. The change in point of view was a little distracting at first. Loved the complexities of both marriages. Cass made me want to scream at some point and Julian...ugh Julian. I felt like Elliott understood Cass better than she understood herself. Overall really good read.
The story was a highly emotional ride with many plot twist and sharp turns. However, this drama queen had figured out the major twist. No spoiler here. You'll need to see for yourself. The storyline was part mystery and a romantic suspense. It was worth the read for sure.
I think the title was perfect for the story and I enjoyed the plot twists and unexpected turns. I can tell you that both of the sisters annoyed me at some point because of the dumb decisions they were making. This was my first read by the author and I can say that I would definitely try something else. I think it was a good read and kept me interested.
As usual Ms. Diana W delivered a story full lies that weaved the reader through lies and lust you have no idea of how it will end until the very end. I’m all for it this story will keep you guessing and cause every emotion from sadness to guilt to just plan old angry pissed off, now who wouldn’t want to read a story like that. An awesome read if I say so myself 🥰
There was some suspense and mystery! A little bit of a love story and some romance. I still have some unanswered questions and the epilogue needed some fleshing out, but all in all it was a good and enjoyable read.
This was an awesome story that I really enjoyed. I love a story where you try to figure out what's going to happen next before it actually happens. It was great from the beginning to the end.
Diana W. stuck to the formula that works for her. Having read her first few novels, I can really see the growth in her writing while she's kept her style intact. This was a good read!!! Twists and turns for sure...
This story caught me off guard! Just when I thought I knew what was happening, another twist occurred. This is a great read and definitely worth the time. There are some editing errors that need to be cleaned up but the story was so good, I had to give it five stars.
This was a great romantic suspense novel that pulled me in and kept me there. I read at every available moment and finished it in one day. I had no idea who it was until I read it. This novel has great characters and a great storyline.
This was a crazy out of control merry go round. I went back and forth all in my feelings for the characters. The supposed" good guy" totally flipped the script and had the female doing the same. This was definitely a page turner!
I enjoyed this book and it was a pretty quick read. It kept my attention. I enjoyed the suspense and the twists. Will definitely read more from this author.
